Basic Info:

  • A monument is a city block containing a statue or similar piece of public art, without a building in it. It is functionally equivalent to a street, except that players with the Tagging skill can gain 2 XP for writing graffiti on a monument.
  • This is, game-play wise, an empty block, and cannot be barricaded.
  • After the July 3, 2009 update, some monuments became tall and can be seen from a distance with binoculars

Description

The Shoemark Monument is a monument located in the suburb of Dunningwood. Survivors cannot barricade this location and searching yields next to nothing. As such, survivors should avoid this location or keep an eye out for zombies who may choose to congregate here.

The monument, a life-sized bronze statue of a race horse and mounted jockey, honors Ian Shoemark. Ian was made ever-so-slightly famous when he raced his horse "Wishlon" to win the 1989 Tolworth Hurdle. The race is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race held in the United Kingdom where 4-year-old and above novice horses are raced over a distance of 2 miles 110 yards (3,319 metres) at Sandown Park every January. There are eight hurdles to be jumped in the race. "Wishlon's" trainer, Ron Smyth, was reported as having said, "Really the horse won the race, so I don't see why they built a monument to the rider."

In-game description

Humans and zombies alike will see the following (permanent) description when standing in front of the monument:

"You are at the Shoemark Monument, a glass statue of a woman engraved with memorial dates."
