UDWiki:Administration/Policy Discussion/Misconduct Reformat

From The Urban Dead Wiki

As it stands Misconduct has no defined format and is nothing short of a free-for-all. I propose that we rework the format of a case before we give it any huge overhaul mechanics wise. Tidy it up a wee bit before we redecorate if you will.

Old and Busted

The current format is divided into several sections:

  • The main bit - This is where the case is presented, various arguments take place, rulings, more arguments, more rulings etc. If need arises several subheaders are used to break up insanely large main bits.
  • More stuff - This is where more discussion takes place, usually in response to a particular point or ruling. Its usually shorter than the main bit but may have multiple incarnations.
  • End bit - After all is said and done, this is where the final ruling is extracted from the mess above and placed (sometimes to more discussion). If need arises, more headers are added to discuss any further action.

New Hotness

The new format will be divided into five sections:

  • The case - This is where the actual case will be presented with references to logs, diff links and other appropriate evidence as needed. No discussion should take place here. This is purely a statement of the alleged misconduct. More evidence can be added if required later.
  • Defense - This is where the sysop in question can give their side of the story. Again, no discussion should take place here. This is primarily for the sysop to explain their actions. They can add to it as necessary.
  • Discussion - All discussion (both from sysops and regular users) involving the case should take place here. Any rulings posted here should be restated in the Rulings section below for clarity.
  • Rulings - This is where sysops should post their rulings on the case. Any discussion should take place in the Discussion section above.
  • Outcome - Once all sysops who wish to rule have ruled, the rulings will be tallied and the outcome noted. Any discussion about further action against a sysop ruled to have committed misconduct should take place here.

I'm not intending to change any part of the mechanics of Misconduct with this policy but rather sort it out a bit so that we know exactly where fixing is needed. -- Cheese 02:10, 19 October 2008 (BST)
