Vandal Banning Cases Require Proof of Contact

In an effort to staunch the flow of petty cases and cases brought on by new user mistakes all VB cases require a link not only to the edit in question but to the suspect's talk page where the filer contacts them. This is already listed as a guideline, however, this makes it an actual policy.

On the talk page of the suspected vandal, the filer must link the edit in question, explain why they see it as "bad faith", and declare an intention to report the edit to the sysops. A reasonable amount of time (24 hours) should pass before filing the report on the actual A/VB page if the user does not correct the edit.

This is mainly to deal with users that edit group pages that they do not belong to, prevent numerous reports of "shitting up" admin pages, and encourage users to reach out to other users constructively rather than vindictively.

It should also help cut down the Warnings given to new users and would show that VB is not meant as a punishment.

Exceptions

In the case of page blanking or for users that fall under the "3 edits that are only vandalism" status the requirement is lifted. Active vandals (users that are beyond the initial 3 edits) will still be immediately stopped by sysops should they be engaging in a "vandalism spree". A spree is defined as more than 3 bad faith edits.

Edits that violate the TOU or include actual threats are not required to be posted on the talk page first. When the user is getting threatened or harassed they should report that immediately.

Failure to Contact

Failure to contact a user that's edits fall under this policy and reporting them on A/VB could be deemed vandalism in of itself.
