This page is for the request of page protection within the Urban Dead wiki. Due to philosophical concerns, the ability to protect pages is restricted to system operators. As such, regular users will need to request a protection from the system operators. For consistency and accountability, system operators also adhere to the guidelines listed here.

Guidelines for Protection Requests

All Protection Requests must contain the following information in order to be considered:

  • A link to the page in question. Preferably bolded for visibility.
  • A reason for protection. This should be short and to the point.
  • A signed datestamp. This can be easily done by adding ~~~~ to the end of your request.

Any protection request that does not contain these three pieces of information will not be considered, and will be removed by a system operator.

Once the protection request has been entered, the request shall remain on this page, where it will be reviewed by a member of the Sysop team, and action taken accordingly. Once action has been taken, the system operator will add a comment including a signed datestamp detailing his course of action, and the request will be moved into the Recent Actions queue, where it will remain for one week. After that week is up, it may be moved to the archive (see navigation box below). If the Protection has been granted, the system operator should place the tag {{protect}} on the page(s) that have been protected.

In the event of a system operator requesting a Protection, all the previous points will apply, excepting that a system operator other than the requestor shall review and take action on the request.

Pages in the Protection Queue may already be scheduled protections. For a list of scheduled protections, see here.

Goddamn this new archival system is total ass A ZOMBIE ANT 06:32, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

Honest question: how so? All you should have to do is copy/paste it on a new page and link it in one place. Also, done. Aichon 14:29, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
Sorting by admin process was just much easier than by going by user IMO. A ZOMBIE ANT 06:18, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
Have you tried the categories that the breadcrumbs template automatically adds? They were designed to provide that functionality for people looking for it, without the hassle of having to manually remember to link pages in loads of places. Aichon 06:57, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
The only time I've used the breadcrumbs template (which I almost sent to A/MR, what a daffy name) was in the above example, so if you mean other than that, then no I haven't. It's clever, but I actually think it makes the history of the wiki a bit more impenetrable. I liked being able to go on the A/DM archives for example and see every time a sysop asked for a demotion, why, and in what time period. Now I can do that, but through several clicks through categories, and I would have to open one up in every single different page to get the same experience. It's a bit of a niche use though. A ZOMBIE ANT 10:32, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
In web jargon, "breadcrumbs" are those little things at the top that say stuff like "Home > UDWiki > Administration > Protections", letting you know the trail you followed to get there. Hence, breadcrumbs. :P
But yeah, you can't just see everything at a glance with DM, though DM was always the exception, since it was all on one page before, unlike every other archive. The rest of them should be as easy or easier to browse through by using the "Browse the Sysop Archives" box at the top of A/SA. It definitely takes some getting used to, but it's convenient when you only remember one thing (e.g. who, when, what), since you can now browse along that path to get where you want to go. User Talk Archives

Hello all. May I please have User talk:DanceDanceRevolution/archive/2012 and User talk:DanceDanceRevolution/archive/2013 protected please? I also need User talk:DanceDanceRevolution/archive/2011/H2 unprotected, for some reason I didn't place some late 2011 era conversations in there. A ZOMBIE ANT 07:48, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

Granted. -- Spiderzed 12:41, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch Spiderzed, can I ask one more favour, I forgot to add the following to the 2012 archive:

lol

"Since DDR won't apologize, I'll just have to yell it here.

LINKS DON'T WORK IF YOU'RE ALREADY ON THE PAGE YOU DUMBASSES.

Good day! >:( -- ¯\(°_o)/¯ 01:14, 13 December 2009 (UTC)"--SA 11:50, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Also, that duckling was so precious. We ought to put it at the bottom corner of the main page. :3 --SA 12:35, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

I broke your page because thats what I do until I have my own header.--SA 12:56, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Really, everyone should just have a header for me at this point. :/ --SA 12:56, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
HA. okay fine consider it done A ZOMBIE ANT 13:11, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Would you be able to throw that at the bottom of the page? Only asking because it's probably the same effort as unprotecting it for me and then protecting it again later. The 2011 archive that you unprotected can be protected again too now, thanks heaps again. A ZOMBIE ANT 13:28, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

bump. an unprotect would do me fine A ZOMBIE ANT 11:40, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Protected 2011, unprotected 2012. --  AHLGTG 21:04, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks heaps. You can protect 2012 again now (really sorry :( ) A ZOMBIE ANT 00:58, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

The Burchell Arms

There seems to be a continuing edit war on this featured page. Suggesting it is reverted to its post-featured, pre-edit-warring state. Then use arbies or featured article voting for any future changes. ~Vsig.png 20:06, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

Granted. -- Spiderzed 21:07, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

As 2 months have passed and the secondary theatres of edit war (danger report etc.) have also fallen quiet, I have unprotected the page again. -- Spiderzed 11:15, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Wiki cleanup

This is a courtesy notice (for anyone who hasn't already noticed) that I've been editing a number of protected pages over the course of the last week or so as a result of the recent issues we've been having with the wiki. I'll be continuing to do so as well, just as an FYI. Aichon 20:25, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
