I'd appreciate a full demotion, please. As for why...

The way I see it, sysops deal with abuse all the time, and I'm used to it. In the last 24 hours I've been called a "fucking idiot" and "fucking idiotic", told I suck, been informed by a few people that I've "disappointed" them, accused of playing favorites, seen two long-time users announce their plans to leave in reaction to the decision I was a part of, and been falsely accused of banning a user for doing something I didn't like. That's just part of the job, and I'm used to dealing with it, since sysops don't always make decisions that people like.

What makes this different is that all of those comments have come from people that I respect and want to see engaged in the wiki. In the past, I've been able to count on all of these people to calmly present counterarguments to whatever was the cause of disagreement between us. There's always been a mutual respect. Sure, everyone gets a little heated from time to time (some more than others :P), but on the whole, I've always felt like these folks knew that they could talk with me, that I'd listen, and that we'd do our best to work through the issue together. No issue was too tough to be resolved.

That's clearly not what's happening here, and what that tells me is that I've lost these people's trust. Either they feel that I'm not listening, or they feel that I can't understand, and so they're trying to reach through in some other way. Well, message heard. Either I'm so out of touch with the wiki community that my only recourse is to step down, take a vacation, and regain some perspective, or else the price for being right is alienating them, which is higher than I'm willing to pay. I've always said I'm serious about being open to being convinced that I'm wrong, and my putting myself in everyone else's shoes, while not being the reason for this demotion request, is nonetheless one way of demonstrating my seriousness. TL;DR Version: Imagine the world's smallest violin playing while I blather on for too long, cry about respect and trust, and paint myself as a martyr and you'll pretty much have a general sense for what I said. If you think it's a ragequit, I'd totally understand, even though it's not. Aichon 23:45, 9 April 2013 (BST)
Nooooo. I can't say for sure I fall into the group of people you respect. But I have respect for you and think you are doing a good job. --K 00:00, 10 April 2013 (BST)
Refuse. I don't want to be disrespectful to any of the parties here - but what is needed is a break with a duration of hours on all sides, not a departure from anyone. --SarahSig.png 00:12, 10 April 2013 (BST)
I'm not asking for a demotion because people disagreed with me about something and we all just need time to cool down. I'm asking for a demotion because I think I could use the time off to get my head on straight, and the recent disagreement is what made that clear to me. Also, I'm not planning to leave the wiki at this time. I'm only planning to step down so that I can get some perspective on things. Aichon 01:04, 10 April 2013 (BST)

The written part of my crat duty is to be the one to ask if you are actually sure. The unwritten part, however, is to decide when to ask. I will let this simmer for a bit to prevent you from rushing something based on a single squarrel. Expect my actual question sometimes next evening, or a bit later. I hope this will give you much needed time to ponder on this step, and on whether it is justified. -- Spiderzed 00:46, 10 April 2013 (BST)

You won't hear a complaint from me, since I don't mind having the time to double-check my own motives. That said, I don't expect it'll make a difference. I had been contemplating a demotion before any of this stuff started, simply because I agree with anyone else that thinks I'm losing touch with what it's like to be a normal user and not be the one in control. I wasn't convinced I needed to take action yet, but with the recent drama, I feel that there's enough evidence to warrant taking action now, rather than later. Aichon 01:04, 10 April 2013 (BST)
I totally understand where you're coming from, Aichon. I know this isn't entirely appropriate, but Spiderzed's "single squarrel" comment had me chuckling just now. Was that a subtle double-entendre meant only for us that know about the Acorn moniker? Anyway, hope you either see things in a different light or at least enjoy your break from sysophood if you go the demotion route. Cheers to you bro and thanks for all the contributions. ~Vsig.png 03:21, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Aw man. You almost make me miss the job. Good times, when I was up to it… good times. :'> ᚱᛖᚢᛖᚾᚨᚾ 13:03, 10 April 2013 (BST)

this bring so many memories... Aichon, you can do more than that, look at my misconduct cases (and many of the sysop from my time) and you'll see the kind of stuff we had to put up to --hagnat 17:47, 10 April 2013 (BST)
You realize you're still a sysops yourself right? Unless you meant crat specifically, but then, you were barely around to do that job when you had it. --Thadeous Oakley Talk 19:47, 10 April 2013 (BST)

A part me wants to convince you to reconsider because I think you are an amazing asset to the community as a sysop/crat but a part of me also wants to see what wiki things you can make with more free time as a regular user. Things like a survivor tracking tool that automatically updates the wiki with the known position of every active survivor and then dispatches drunk zombie strike teams to deal with the problem in real-time. Yeah. That would be awesome. -MHSstaff 17:42, 10 April 2013 (BST)

I completely understand and respect your decision, Aichon. Probably the only argument I can give as to why you should stay on, at least as sysop, is because you'd need the buttons to keep helping out with most of the A/SA migration. I hope that you do keep working on it, and whatever other awesome projects you think up, in your capacity as a user. I also want to thank you for your service as both a sysop and a bureaucrat. Mother god damn piss dick fuck. No. Demotion denied. Get back there. Just like we told Ross. The sun shone, having no alternative, on the nothing new 18:25, 10 April 2013 (BST)

Official Crat Question: Are you sure about wanting to get demoted, and how far should the demotion go? -- Spiderzed 19:31, 10 April 2013 (BST)

Gonna sit on this for another day, just so you know. Aichon 19:42, 10 April 2013 (BST)
Got any news? You may also want to consider that it is less than a month until your seat is up for vote anyway. If you are undecided, you can just go on for those few weeks and then simply not run for crat, if that is the way you swing. -- Spiderzed 23:59, 12 April 2013 (BST)
Yeah, I'm aware of that, and it was always my plan not to run for a second term as 'crat. As for now, I'll stay on, at least until my A/RE, at which point I'll put in for another demotion. I really do need a vacation from the obligation associated with being on the sysop team, at least for a few months, but I can put it off awhile longer. Sorry for the hassle. Aichon 01:26, 13 April 2013 (BST)

Oh man, how about we shut down the entire wiki while we're at it? --Thadeous Oakley Talk 19:47, 10 April 2013 (BST)
