Whilst the point seems to be touched upon on a semi-regular basis, two recent historical status nominations (Escape vs No Escape, and Blackmore 404 vs Pitneybank) have led me to wonder about the state of the two historical categories, Category:Historical Events and Category:Historical Groups. Now, obviously the deck is stacked against nomination, requiring a 2/3 majority rather than 50% +1, but there still seems to be some contention around the issue of 'merit' or 'fairness'. Being pretty uninvolved in the majority of these nominations I can see both sides of things all round, and felt perhaps it was worth scoping out the community to see what the consensus on the actual process of historical nomination is. This is not an issue of specific cases, just a discussion on your opinions of the process itself. If you wish to suggest changes, feel free to do so, though the odds are I will not be pursuing a policy change personally.
