News

FYI, I created a news page, which lists all the news from the game site. It's under news. Also, I'm working on a template that could be integrated into the main page, with the latest news update. --Daranz 22:32, 7 Sep 2005 (BST)

Glossary - Category

I created a categroy for the glossary - it will make thing easier, since new glossary words won't have to be manually inputted and sorted in the Glossary page, but will automatically sort in Category:glossary. So far, I did not touch the old Glossary page, or changed the link on the main page, as I leave it to you - admins Daranz 23:40, 7 Sep 2005 (BST)

Title style?

So is the idea that we capitalise and pluralise where appropriate? I've been hopelessly inconsistent so far (thanks to Kevan for straightening things out). Morlock 00:53, 8 Sep 2005 (BST)

I suppose we could make everything plural, and put redirects from pages with non-pluralised titles. While singular makes sense, plural is more common for some things (like xp). --Daranz 01:19, 8 Sep 2005 (BST)

Files

People seem to be having troubles getting the Greasemonkey scripts from the links provided. Anyone got anywhere else to host these so they don't have to register for the yahoo group to get them? --Raelin 02:25, 20 Sep 2005 (BST)

You can do that? How bout a link there too! Also, why not host the files here? --Faceface 13:44, 6 Oct 2005 (BST)
I didn't have to register to anything to get them, it did require some patience and a few reloads though. --Chainsaws 14:01, 6 Oct 2005 (BST)
These things are javascripts - if we have the source it's easy enough to save them here somewhere on the wiki in plaintext along with instructions on how to install (Copy to an empty file and Save As blabla.user.js --Alicia Jennings 22:32, 14 Oct 2005 (BST)
Yeah, but that may be confusing to alot of people. I changed the links a while back to a free upload thing, but they could go down at any time there, that's why I asked for someone to host them. Until then I think the current setup is fine, I'll just have to check every once in a while to make sure they don't go down, and rehost them if they do. --Raelin 23:04, 14 Oct 2005 (BST)
I've been trying to dl the Ikko Item Sorter since yesterday and I've been getting bubkiss. But it's true that it might confuse a lot of people. I just want the scripts :) --Alicia Jennings 23:29, 14 Oct 2005 (BST)
Updated the link, should work now. --Raelin 23:37, 14 Oct 2005 (BST)

The forum thread the paragraph on the GAIE extension links to is no more. Are instructions for installation & use available anywhere else?--SA-TA-EK-Rumisiel 19:34, 19 Oct 2005 (BST)

There is a new hosting site available now. Tokujin 23:07, 2 Jan 2006 (GMT)

Suggested File -- If one of you code slingers could create a Firefox extention that put every survivior in a building into a character's contact list, that would be sweet. It is a real pain adding characters to the contact list. --OusterX 07:01, 2 Dec 2005 (GMT)

Forums

Ok, what's going on here? Is there some sort of favored new forum here, or are we letting anyone who can hit the edit button change the link to match the board they just made? --Raelin 13:22, 21 Sep 2005 (BST)

Seems best to be inclusionist until the situation settles down and we see where most people go. People should add, not change. Morlock 13:25, 21 Sep 2005 (BST)
Hopefully the user count should help things along, and help people make a better informed descision. Only problem is keeping it up to date. --Raelin 14:03, 21 Sep 2005 (BST)

Help with UD-tool?

I am the total computer-ignorant...so I have installed the UD-tool...and this little weird windows pops up and says something about sourcecode and 7-zip...how do I turn that little annoying window off? User:Chris_dk

Just accept the agreement. If you refuse to obey the terms you must uninstall the extension. Choose!--Tokujin 06:03, 1 March 2006 (GMT)

Barricade Monitor?

The zombie tracker is a very useful program, so I was confused when I couldn't find up-to-date barricade monitors for different suburbs. It would be cool if someone with the necessary programming skill were to create a Firefox extension or Greasemonkey script that would update a central barricade monitor on a website. I have hosting available if someone else can write the code, assuming that the site doesn't become too popular. It seems to me that two things must be written: a Greasemonkey script (or extension) and a CGI script that can accept the updates and keep track of them. This program seems like it would be very useful for finding entry points to EH barricaded buildings, or for lower level players without free running to find a safehouse. Opera widgets?

You probably all gonna laugh at me and tell me to just use Firefoz, but I actually prefer the Opera browser. Opera has things called Widgets that can be compared to Firefox extensions. Obviously none of these extensions and scripts will work on Opera, but does anybody know of any Opera widgets designed for Urban Dead? --Otware 10:51, 2 April 2006 (BST)

  • Widgets are a new feature of Opera 9 wchih is still beta .... So we opera users will have wait for some more time before any UD Widgets will appear :/ Malek

I'm right with you in wanting UD widgets :)Opera is lovely! Elliothatman 14:31, 20 June 2006 (BST)

Requesting human intervention

(I didn't know where to put general questions of the community at large, so I put it here...)

Similar to revivification requests, is there any place on this wiki to request intervention by human groups? I'm currently in a zombie-controlled part of the city, and I'm tired of waiting for a revive... Almafeta 13:51, 1 May 2006 (BST)

'kay, I'd suggest checking the Revive Point list to see if you are close to any green points, or maybe putting your name on the DEM or CDF or CMS revive tools. You could either search around on those group pages or simply go to the Revivification_Request page and look around there as well. Happy Surviving! --Karlsbad 13:55, 1 May 2006 (BST)

i didnt know where to put this...me and my girlfriend both play this game...and i noticed i have major trouble hitting zombies and finding things...im guessing its because of the anti zerging laws....anything i can do about this?....

robbie go home

how do you change the location of your home base?? Robbie the king 19:57, 15 June 2006 (BST)

Right click on the map and choose "Set UD Home". then it will open a window, the coordinates in the window are wherever you are at. Set the corrdinates to wherever you wish to go and click OK. Reload the page and it will be working. DarkStar2374383 Talk | LDY | LOE 06:52, 3 July 2006 (BST)

Urban Dead Leaderboard

I'm the creator of the Urban Dead Leaderboard, a fairly new website that ranks UD players by xp and level. So far there are more than 300 participating characters and it's still growing. There is more information available on the website. Is it possible for my website to be listed in the community portal?--Raeleus 16:37, 7 August 2006 (BST)

Id say just add it under "Useful Urban Dead Links", While, some may not consider it exactly useful, It does make the game a little more fun when you can see people cometing with eachother. --DarkStar2374383 Talk | LDY | LOE 02:22, 8 August 2006 (BST)

Well if noone is going to object, I'll just put it up. If the UD Profile Database is listed here then so should the leaderboard.--Raeleus 10:30, 9 August 2006 (BST)

I'd debate the profile database's utility. Mia made one with every profile in the game within it which makes the other one redundant. Regardless, I don't see any reason why the leaderboard shouldn't be listed there. –Xoid STFU! 12:32, 9 August 2006 (BST)
Generally I agree on the database, except that mine's not for direct access, and a person has to request it through me. I say we go with the most accessable database, regardless of how complete it is. --SirensT RR 13:51, 9 August 2006 (BST)

Firefox 2.0 RC 2

Are there any extensions for Firefox 2.0 beta 2 yet? I'd be willing to help test some if there is a need for it.→LzyGenius 08:45, 1 September 2006 (BST)

I haven't heard about any. If you find any let us all know. Do you know if the current extensions will work in it? Thanks. --DarkStar2374383 Talk | LDY | LOE 22:04, 2 September 2006 (BST)
So far udtool works without any problems in the last couple of weeks in RC 2. I will be starting on a couple of others this weekend.→LzyGenius 05:23, 13 October 2006 (BST)
I upgraded to the final release of Firefox 2.0, it reported that my UDTool was not supported. Now it doesn't work at all. :( Does anyone have any idea when the next version of the UDTool will be put out??→User:Simply J 22:33, 29 October 2006 (EST)
Never? You can try resensitized for an updated copy, or editing it yourself; it actually is compatible but the "max version" variable is set to 1.6. –Xoid MTFU! 03:39, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
How would one go about editing an extension's max version?--LazerZero 19:01, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

z-udtool mirror needed

z-udtool hosting seems to have been hacked. If no one has a mirror or the problem does not correct itself this link may need to be removed. --Max Grivas JG / M.F.T. 20:18, 17 October 2006 (BST)

Corrupted link to z-udtool, under the Firefox Extensions on the UDWiki:Community Portal

Clicking on this link brings up a page that reads "by Thehacker /Turkish Hacker Fu@K israel no war." This needs fixing. --Newton Egglbach 04:24, 15 October 2006 (BST)

This is the correct link. Sad they got hacked but they may get it back together on their own. If you have a more recent link or a link to a mirror put it up there. Otherwise you can bring up this sort of thing on the talk page. --Max Grivas JG / M.F.T. 20:19, 17 October 2006 (BST)

UDtool

Won't download from the mirror. Says its an invalid download package. Anachronos 23:10, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Which mirror are you using? The one linked in the bullet points? If so, which version are you trying to download?--The General T Sys U! P! F! 17:42, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
I've tried downloading all of them. The only one that will install at all is the unstable 0.6.8 version. The 0.6.6a merely links to a ".6a" file. At first I thought whoever made the page forgot to add ".xpi" to the end, but I tried putting the link directly in the address bar. That doesn't work either. I really wish I could get this extension again, if only for the HP colourizer. The greasemonkey script doesn't have the right colours. --Hempress 06:37, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, I though I fixed the address problem, i'll look into it. For now, use the development version, it should be fine, it simply means that it isn't tested and therefore isn't proven to work 100% correctly. (Although, even the stable one doesn't do that, yet)--The General T Sys U! P! F! 13:52, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Many of the links are broken; and some are dupes. Which tools are still available and where?--Raystanwick 04:58, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
The ones I know of are Udtool (which i've taken over responsibility for) and Urban Dead Toolbar, I don't know about the rest.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 15:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Here's the file hosted on my webspace. Try getting it to somewhere else. (It's already changed to support Fx2.) --Niilomaan GRR!M! 07:22, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Hang on, i've already got a webpage with UDTool on it (http://az.z1b.net/UDTool. Is there any difference between the version you've hosted and my version?--The General T Sys U! P! F! 08:29, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

What the fuck has happened to this page?

Over the past couple of days someone has managed to break several links on the main page with edits to this page, any info on why this had to be done?--The General T Sys U! P! F! 10:28, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

This is listed in the template, but is not listed in the current projects. Can we either get it a current project entry explaining what the heck it is and why you probably can't participate, or remove it from the template? S.Wiers X:00x-mas tree dead pool 17:40, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

New Layout

New layout, have fun. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 17:36, 9 June 2007 (BST)

It looks nice, but I don't generally like pages where all the displayed info is stashed in templates on other pages- you made those other pages easy to find, but unless the info is not intended to be updated except very rarely (in which case it might as well be protected) it just makes for needless extra work, discourages participation by newbies, and thus negates the primary purpose of having info on a wiki in the first place. (Text editing is NOT the same as code editing.)
Even worse in this case, there are now TWO locations that need editing with every update. For example, updating UDWiki:Projects does not have any effect on Template:Projects even though they should show the same info. Why not just use a single page as both the template page and the info source, with "no include" tags to allow additional expansion on the topics where needed? I'd be happy to make this overhaul if desired, keeping the looks and feel of the main page (which is nice) as close to the current form as I can. --Seb_Wiers Imagine 18:55, 9 June 2007 (BST)
Some stuff are still incomplete, like the NecroNet section (which will be a section for any zombie related news in the internet) and the Lexicon. I'll create the proper pages with the proper layouts when i get the time to do it (i am at work right now, and prolly will be too tomorrow). --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 19:39, 9 June 2007 (BST)
I understand that; it was obvious from the red links and bracketed text. What I meant was doing something like I did on Template talk:Projects so that there is space to have detail about each item without cluttering up the main page and without having to use one page for the detailed info, and another one for the "table version". --Seb_Wiers Imagine 20:04, 9 June 2007 (BST)
That page made my eyes hurt. No. Newsboxes merely exist to inform the community about new stuff happening in the wiki, the game, or whatever. Since they are inside templates, each one of them are easy to edit and code. Newbies still get the chance to add their content anywhere, veteran will surely do their job right for them. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 01:27, 10 June 2007 (BST)

Not directly related to this page, but the main page used to have the communit announcements on it. I liked that. Now they are all but invisible, hidden behind a little sidebar link that few people use. ... 15:09, 25 June 2007 (BST)

community announcements are now made using the template:Wiki News. It keeps track of the seven latest announcements, and explains exactly what is coming on in the community. Active community users SHOULD have been using the community portal a long time ago... --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 20:04, 27 June 2007 (BST)

Updating the community portal

This entire page and its templates are out of date, so I'm gonna give fixing it all up and modernising it a go.

I've updated some of the news templates, and I'll be getting rid of the dead projects like the Lexicon and Necronet and replacing them with other news templates in the future.

Just so everyone knows and no one gets surprised when it all morphs into an out-of-control monster! DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 04:24, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
