UDWiki talk:Moderation/Policy Discussion/defunctgroups

I don't know, it would seem kind of pointless to me just to have a list of historical groups. I would personally put it up for deletion if I saw it as it serves no purpose. No if it had say a description of what the group was about and maybe what they did then it would be a different story. Pillsy FT 11:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

More importantly, this doesnt require a policy. If Rouge sees a need for the page He can simply create it. I will say that on average between 2 and 5 groups a Week are created in UD, with between 1 and six going defunct. That page would become pretty large, pretty fast espescially if all of the non-historical groups are posted even with only one line of description. Conndrakamod T CFT 11:39, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't see a problem with re-using a defunct group's name - in fact, after being disappointed when the group name I wanted (Malton Power & Light) had already been taken, I snapped it up once the group had been deleted. (I did make a point of acknowledging that there'd been an earlier MP&L.) Isn't part of the point of deleting unused groups to free up the namespace? Paul Brunner 13:08, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Thats a good point. We wouldn't want to prevent 'recycling' of good ideas. --MorthBabid 17:59, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I can see that. The reason why I didn't just post it, Conndraka. Is what would be the point if it was deleted in 15 minutes. I just wanted an opinion on if it even deserved a page.--Rogue 05:16, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Don't shoot me, but I also see a definitional problem: what actually constitutes a group? I haven't been here long, but I've seen plenty of "groups" come and go, often with one member. Then there are the "groups" that are created solely for trolling or griefing; I'm certain we can all think of a couple of those. Oh, and the zerg packs (or gaggles, or herds, or whatever zergs come in). The Crit 9s with "user names" that sound like group names. Do they all make the list, or is there some threshold level of "groupness" that qualifies them for inclusion? Meh. Now, a list of troll/grief/zerg groups with a bit of history on the well-deserved fate met by each -- THAT would be some fun reading. -- Atticus Rex mfu pif Δ 08:56, 4 November 2006 (UTC) ETA: Kidding about that last bit, guys. -- Atticus Rex mfu pif Δ 23:01, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
