The sysops don't need to be on there since you can get to them from the Main Page>Administration>List of Sysops. Beyond that I think it should be listed alphabetically like Vandal Data. Users have to either add themselves or if you want a link to someone's page you add it.

I think if it gets too crowded then rules like name must be over X characters and user must have made an edit in the last X months or they get removed should be added. Permabanned vandals will be removed since they will be linked in VB/VD.--– Nubis NWO 02:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't think crouding would be too much of a problem (within reason-) the list would obviously be Ctrl-F searchable. Good point on the sysops-forgot about that. Linkthewindow  Talk  04:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Define 'UHUB' pleae. --People's Commissar Hagnat talk mod 03:48, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

User Hub-simply an easily assessable list of active users on the wiki. As I said, the point was raised by Gnome in the recent deletions vote over user page redircts in the main space. Needed as insanely long usernames are a pain to type in the search bar (take DDR as an example.) Linkthewindow  Talk  04:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
:( Awwww, I came up with the UHUB idea. I have an idea for a compromise. Why not make 1 page and list links to all the user pages that people want a "quick link" to? Call the page UHUB (user hub) and let user's add basic text links to their User page. Organize it alphabetically. Just an idea in the works.--– Nubis 02:52, 26 October 2008 (UTC)  :) --– Nubis NWO 13:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)--– Nubis NWO 13:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Was that on deletions? That was where I first saw it :), but I decided to make this page after the Scheduled deletions vote (and got the idea of Gnome.) Linkthewindow  Talk  20:24, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm assuming it means "User Hub", a hub being a "place where data arrives from one or more direction, and is forwarded out again in one or more other directions". Basically this would be a central page where everyone could come to find directions to other users pages -- boxy talkteh rulz 04:10 16 November 2008 (BST)
I don't think we need to weed out non-active users if the hub is a reasonable size and ctrl F searchable. That seems like extra effort and maintenance. --– Nubis NWO 13:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Sounds good. I'd make a template that automatically formatted everyone's entry, so that it's easier to add yourself, and everyone is formatted the same way. Basically, all you'd have to do to add yourself would be to type {{UHUB|Boxy}} in the correct place and you'd get "*Boxy talk". Perhaps even have the template timestamp the entry, so that you can easily see which are the oldest entries to check that they're still active (although this would require the template to be subst:ed) -- boxy talkteh rulz 04:04 16 November 2008 (BST)

Good idea. thanks for making me famous. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 21:24, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

I think sysops should be at the higher point in the page, and other users should be in a second section. Users should have to resubmit their name (timestamp it) every month or something, similar to the Arbitrator List or Recruitment Page. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 04:18, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't think timestamping is a good idea, mainly because this is not for the benefit of the users whose names are listed, this is for everyone else. They shouldn't have to bother updating a timestamp. Besides, updating timestamps creates a ton of superfluous edits. The way it's done on the arbitrator list (just check when their last contribution was) would be better. You could even put their contributions among the other links, so that you'd get "*Boxy talk contribs", making it easier to check. --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [510,18] 10:45, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Thats quite a good way of doing it. That or just purge the page every x months. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:13, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
The obvious problem with purging is that it is a pain in the ass to update every few months, and that most people would simply forget. I like the contributions idea. Perhaps it will just have to be up to some janitors to check it every few months? Linkthewindow  Talk  20:23, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Last Call! Okay, I've made the template Linkthewindowtalk contribs, and will be moved into the mainspace soon. A quick rundown of what I think people have suggested here:

  • Template used to format entries (see above-thanks Boxy)
  • Contributions checked every few months, inactive users removed (thanks Midianian)
  • Listed alphabetically

Anyone got any changes before this gets created? Oh, and could someone with more knowledge in the wiki tell me if this is eligible to be posted on the main page (in the Wiki news column?) Linkthewindow  Talk  09:06, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Listing the sysops first? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 09:15, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Thats on the main page-I only listed things that where brought up in the discussion. And, yes, that means sysops will be listed first (assuming everyone agrees.) Linkthewindow  Talk  09:28, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
I don't really see why sysops should be listed first. You could put a link to Special:Listusers/sysop at the top, but otherwise I think sysops should be listed alphabetically like others. --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [509,20] 09:40, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'll make this after my exams are over (unless someone else wants too-much appreciated!) Linkthewindow  Talk  09:08, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

It's been created. Please add your names (although anyone who has commented here already has their name added.) Linkthewindow  Talk  07:54, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
