Bob the Newb: that's me. I'm a Medic trying to learn to survival in the craziness and chaos that is Malton. Hopefully I'll be able to help some people. If you see me, feel free to say high.

My first entry. I entered Malton just a three days ago. Luckily for me, I was dropped right into a great safehouse, so no need to look around. My bullets ran out right away without even killing a zombie, so I tried to get more ammo. Unfortunately, all the buildings that I think would have them around me are barricaded. I see other survivors free running to get by the barricade, so I'm practicing myself.

Meanwhile, I've managed to find a hospital I can get into, so I'm pretty well stocked with First Aid Kits. I also managed to find a lead pipe, which beats fighting zombies barehanded. Still, I wouldn't say no to something stronger.

Accomplishments so far:

  • 1 Person Healed
  • 1 Zombie Killed

Day 8. I've been helping out at a nearby hospital as much as I can, as well as fighting zombies when I see them. I've been talking with some people who have been here longer and learning some important terms.

  • ESB - Extremely Strongly Barricaded. Refers to a building that's barricaded so strongly that the only way for survivors to get in is Free Running.
  • Feral - A zombie that roams around itself.
  • GK - Generator Killer. Zombies or humans that like to destroy generators.
  • Hivemind - A group of zombies working together. It's thought they are coordinated much the way ants or bees are.
  • PK - Person Killer. A person who kills other people rather than zombies.
  • VSB - Very Strongly Barricaded. A building barricaded as strong as it can with all survivors able to enter.
  • Zed - A contraction of Zombie and Dead. Used to refer to the dead people who are walking around.

Day 17. After much study at the local hospital, I've learned to diagnosis zombie bites. It'll be a pretty useful skill in conjunction with my first aid. I think I'll start focusing on combat or maybe free-running. At least I have a good weapon now.

Day 21. I've finally mastered free-running. Now, I'm able to get into any building, not matter how strongly barricaded it is. Also, I was able to save another survivor who was attacked. Every little bit helps.

ABOUT THE ZOMBIE MENACE

ORIGIN: I believe the zombies are a result of a virus which I will call pseudonecroma. This virus might have possibly been releases from Necrotech Labs. Malton is now totally infected; any person sufficiently injured can contract pseudonecroma. The virus can only take hold if the body has been weakened to the point of death.

CHARACTERISTICS: The process begins when the body is struck with rigor mortis. The disease progresses differently in each victim. They develop a enhanced sense of smell, enabling them to track survivors. They can eat survivors to recover "health" and their bite is infectious. This is most likely due to rotting meat in their teeth, similar to the bite of the Komodo Dragon. In the most advanced cases, the brain begins to rot.

BEHAVIOR: Unlike the cinematic zombie, Malton's zombies are at least as intelligent as humans. Though their motor and language skills are inhibited, they remain able to think and plan. This is most evident because of large groups of zombies working together and the fact that zombies will often destroy items that could be useful to survivors.

CURE: As always, a ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It's recommend that civilians barricade themselves in their homes during a zombie outbreak. Also, it's recommended everyone carry a first aid kit, in case of infectious bites. For those who are already zombies, there is a vaccine that can cure them.

Day 25. The dangerous situation in Malton hasn't struck home until now.

Yesterday, I was part of a survivor group. Fifty strong, we were, with a hospital, a police station, and all the conveniences we could expect, under the circumstances. On that day, no less than a hundred zombies attacked us. We tried to stave off the attack, but to no avail. The barricades were broken and the zombies flooded in. I tried to escape, but one zombie grabbed my ankle. Once they dragged me out on the street I didn't stand a chance. Nothing could stop them from having their meal.

The next thing I remember, I woke as a zombie. It was the strangest sensation I had ever known. I felt as if I was part of a larger being. The urge to join the zombies in hunting the living was strong. However, I managed to resist the urge. I remembered something I had been told: cemeteries were considered holy ground in Malton. Zombies wishing to live again gathered there. As quickly as I could, I shambled to the nearest graveyard and waited.

Hours later, a courageous doctor made his way through the horde and started reviving some of us, including myself. As life returned to my body, it took a while to get used to. I decided to head back to the place I had stayed before. To get through, I had to force my way through zombie hordes. I made it, but not unscathed. I was badly hurt and had at least one bite that was infected. Knowing that I needed medical attention, I headed to the hospital.

I was shocked to discover that the hospital had not survived. Almost no one besides zombies were there. However, I was desperate. If I didn't get the supplies I needed, I would die. I did the only thing I could do: I ignored the zombies and searched for a first-aid kit. I had little luck at first. I was beginning to think that I was going to die again when I found a first-aid kit. Using what little strength I had, I cleaned my wounds and took some stimulants.

Now that I felt better, I set out in search of a safe spot to stay until I figured out what to do with myself. Luckily, I didn't have to look far. I found a small group of survivors that had barricaded themselves. From their safehouse, I'm writing this. Tomorrow, I'll decide what to do. For now, I need to rest.
