[edit] Reference Quiz #11

Alright, something TRULY difficult. The following is in code. AKA, you are all screwed. Big time. Good luck. And pray I give you a hint.

...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- .---- ...-- ----- ..--- -----

Hint: Sorry about the delay. School's getting to me. Allow me to rephrase it. It's not a question, it's just a phrase or a word. Or a novel.

Morse. If so I'll leave it to axehack. --Rosslessness 19:09, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

But...If it is Morse code, translated, it's "30313131313130302030313031313130302030313131313130302030303131303030302030303131303131312

Woah, buddy! Cut it down to size! Also, it's multiple layers of coding. Soo... keep at it.-- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  19:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
This is like solving a freaking Zodiac Killer letter... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 19:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
The numeric translation appears to be ternary (base three). However, a simple conversion to base 10 gives a freakishly large number...kudos to you, Bronz. --Pedentic 20:37, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
OK...lets start simple....we'll convert this to base 2 first... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Judging from everything, the numbers are seperated into groups of twos...ternary is consist of numbers 0, 1, and 2...converting to binary...the numbers are 0 and 1...therefore...9 in ternary should be 100, while in binary...it should be 1001...Am I on the right track? --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
My apologies: I meant base 4, which would use 0-3. You could keep on with ternary, though, if you want to. --Pedentic 22:21, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Here's my understanding of this...Computers use binary codes for everything. Therefore, this might first be coded into binary, then translated to ternary, and then Morse code. I believe the last code we need to solve is the binary code. Assuming we're able to translate all this ternary into binary. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 22:23, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm working off the assumption that the encrypted thing is a block of text. That being said, I've changed Axe Hack's string of numbers into binary and converted that to text. Therefore, I guess: ÍÝÝÌŒÜÝÜÈÍÝÝÌŒÍÜÌÈÌÝÍÝŒÝÍÌÈÌÝÌÍŒÝÍÝÈÌÝÍÜŒÍÌÌÈÌÝÌÍŒÝÍÝÈÌÝÏv37s7c7w3r37s7c3w7637swc3w363w7w#3w7r377w. If at first you don't succeed... --Pedentic 23:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Holy crap...This isn't ternary...this is quaternary!!! We've been going about this all wrong! We convert this to ternary, then binary...let's try that! --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:46, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it's much easier to convert to binary straight from quaternary. Don't waste your time, though. It gives meaningless gibberish. Translation: I plugged the converted binary into 4 different binary-to-text converters and all came back as gibberish. But if you want the binary, I'd be happy to share it. Good luck, y'all. --Pedentic 11:08, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
I find it interesting that it's a quiz, but none of us can figure out the question. There is a question, right? --Pedentic 02:08, 31 March 2008 (BST)

Haha, wow. Just wow. --PdeqTalk* 05:12, 31 March 2008 (BST)

Nothing interesting? Or more specifically, "|\|07h1n6 1n73r3571n6."? --CWisGood 16:36, 2 April 2008 (BST)

If one of the code layers is L337 (leet), as CWisGood suggested, I think I'll cry... --Pedentic 21:27, 2 April 2008 (BST)
So much for our so-called alliance, Pedentic. We're both banging our heads on the keyboard here... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 21:29, 2 April 2008 (BST)
Perhaps...I've still got a few things I'd like to try before a hint comes along. *crosses fingers* --Pedentic 03:17, 3 April 2008 (BST)

This thing, perhaps? --CWisGood 05:25, 3 April 2008 (BST)

I highly doubt it. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 16:27, 4 April 2008 (BST)
It's been over a month...Hint please? --Pedentic 00:06, 28 April 2008 (BST)

I think we can rule out simple numeric shift (like A=2 instead of 1 or something), as there are only about 5 different groups of two numbers. Perhaps it's significant that the numbers are in groups of two? --Pedentic 12:39, 27 May 2008 (BST)

Maybe we're looking at a different language translated into numeric values... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 19:27, 27 May 2008 (BST)
Nah, I'm keeping it in English and any common variations of English. Still, that's a good idea! -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  21:30, 27 May 2008 (BST)
If anyone wishes to kill me because I placed a crazy idea in Bronz's mind, I live in NYC, so...yea...That's all I'm saying. Oh...And look for the heavily fortified house. That's where I live. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:11, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Do you have a dog? Or a friend named greg? Is the answer a tale of two cities. --Rosslessness 20:17, 28 May 2008 (BST)
No dogs. But I do have a bunch of Mudkips who are trained to kill anyone who tries to sneak pass the security check point about 5 miles away. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:24, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Fool, you mudkips think in only 2 dimensions. --Rosslessness 20:26, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Funny. Nintendo released Pokemon 3D in Asia a long time ago. Didn't you get the memo? My Mudkips are in the 3rd dimesion. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:28, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Time you fool the 4th dimension. Mwah ha ha! Is it the first line of the bible? --Rosslessness 20:29, 28 May 2008 (BST)
But then, the 5th dimension is even better. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:31, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Why is it rated 5th then? --Rosslessness 20:32, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Because it's higher than the forth. Also the fact that I have stashed a lot of scotch there... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:38, 28 May 2008 (BST)

Adding in a hint, the code is just one word. Also, I live in NYC too, Axe Hack! How odd. On the other hand, there's eleven million people in New York City. Enough to turn the geographically republican New York State a democratic state. Donkeys FTW! -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  21:06, 28 May 2008 (BST)

o. hex k. --Rosslessness 21:25, 28 May 2008 (BST)
Well...I live in Queens, and if you even want to see me for some odd reason, you can find me around Francis Lewis High School Mondays-Fridays. That is...If you think you can pick out the one person that is me out of the 4000+ students there... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 00:47, 29 May 2008 (BST)
If the answer indeed is "hex" as Rosslessness suggested, could you perhaps explain the string of 0s 1s 2s and 3s? --Pedentic 03:27, 29 May 2008 (BST)
Its not, i believe its same kind of crazy hexidecimal code within a code. --Rosslessness 12:27, 29 May 2008 (BST)

How interesting. I managed to misspell something in the message, so when it is fully decoded, it will be one letter off. If it looks like something is off, just try to think what would be an appropriate replacement to that one letter. In addition, I live in Queens too, the Astoria part of it, but I go to school in Manhattan. Hunter College High School. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  21:34, 29 May 2008 (BST)

Did CWisGood have it right when he guessed "|\|07h1n6 1n73r3571n6." (Nothing Interesting)? I ask because that's what I got when I decoded the above. Perhaps a reference to "A World Apart" by Gustaw Herling? --Pedentic 19:27, 30 May 2008 (BST)
Oh poop. I thought I coded something else, and forgot. Bleb. Hey, I know! Looks like he wins! I think I'll be lazy and make the hint our net quiz. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  21:38, 30 May 2008 (BST)
Eh...You wouldn't like FLHS anyway. Did you know the principal walked out of his office drunk one time? That was 6 months ago. Funny sight, really. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 11:14, 9 June 2008 (BST)
Perhaps a Quiz 12 is in order? --Pedentic 15:22, 24 June 2008 (BST)
Blargh, I don't feel like continuing these. Anyone want this quiz? I'll get a sysop to move them. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  20:22, 24 June 2008 (BST)
Just leave it as it is. You might have the urge to continue it in a few months... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:45, 24 June 2008 (BST)

Lol, gamez.

It's very strong and surprisingly light, but a bit unwieldy in its current form. Actually, it looks like it might have been ripped off of a tank.

Plasteel plating. Yay 2 google searches. --PdeqTalk* 09:36, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reference Quiz #9

Where in the world is Carmen SanDiego? Just kidding. Anyhow... Here is my super-special-evil-awesome quiz!

Where in the world can a potential rebel be prevented from exposing the president by the quavering foot of the president himself? Where are guns loaded with melinae carrying firearms considered a form of improving your life from that moment forward? Where do men with blood magnetic to firearm projectiles die of tuberculosis?

HINT: Where is churned fresh or fermented cream or milk the second album by Dusted? HINT:The second album by Dusted is called "safe". Also, churned fresh or fermented cream or milk is called 'butter'. And a great voice boomed: Go forth and google the incredibly obvious hints!

--Place guesses below this line--

Sounds almost like "Counterclockwise world", or maybe "Now wait for last year." Am I close?--SeventythreeTalk 21:42, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Nope. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  23:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Badger Universe?--Rosslessness 21:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Er... No. On another note, View and Click all! If it's unavailable, the server is down temporarily. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  23:52, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Sorry Axe Hack, but you wrote it all funky. It didn't quite let me do anything forward, so I had to kill it. If you'd like, you can post that again, but forwards-like-- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  23:54, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Ah...you ruined my fun....It said it's unavailable and you forgot to sign. Hence this: ‫‬‭‮‪‫‬‭‮ It's an interesting code really... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 23:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
But it looks all weird when you're typing it. It shows up as okay though, I

think.-- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  00:17, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

That's 'cause of this thing here... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 00:18, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Somewhere in Canada? --PdeqTalk* 07:49, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Nope. But that is a good guess.-- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  13:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I think youve beaten us with this one...--Rosslessness 13:04, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Iraq-A-stan??--Airborne88T|ZC|MI|E! 23:33, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Scotland maybe...--Scurley7 12:51, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Some of that sounds vaguely like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. --Pedentic 20:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Or maybe Wisconsin? --Pedentic 20:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

How do we stop the backwardsness!? --PdeqTalk* 21:52, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Here's a new guess...Dark ANgel? Does anyone even watch that anymore? --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 20:02, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Whereever this is. It's a magical woods near Jack's house. --PdeqTalk* 04:07, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

I guess Buttersafe. --Pedentic 01:58, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

B-b-b-b-BINGO! Now time to get rid of the friggin' back-type.-- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  13:28, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reference Quiz #8

Okay... You are going to have a wonderful time trying to google this. It's phrased in a question, but you must both answer the question and give me a source.

What sentient being often plays a game of tossing a pet rock up into the air, only to have it smash down upon his head?

HINT!: The being I speak of isn't of the realm that we live in. No, it's NOT from dimension Q! It's a bit more hellish than that. Actually infinitely more hellish than that. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  01:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
HINT!!: Notta movie. Check out 'The Final Hint and a Half' minus a half (Seriously, press ctrl-F, and put in that.) -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  23:15, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
--Place Guesses below this line--

Pratchett?--Rosslessness 21:41, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Well that's just a cheap guess...but probably right. I was thinking it sounded like something out of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. --PdeqTalk* 21:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Maybe, maybe not. Also, just a heads up, I'm going to be reading a large amount of Tamora Pierce books, so get your library cards ready. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  22:10, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm thinking it's a hint... --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 16:31, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Nope. And I hope you win, Axe Hack. It's nice to have someone else entering for a change. Note that -hulk- is just the best pseudo-pseudo-onomatopoeia I could come up with. It describes it pretty well, though. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  01:16, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Reference Quiz #5

Wow, we're at number five! The next one is going to be an actual question so you must both provide the answer, as well as state where it's from. Only two hints this time around. The million-dollar question is...
EDIT Hint: They live in a very hateful realm.
EDIT Hint: PalindromesemordnilaP

What mammal must you be in order to stab someone?

--Place guesses below here--

Its the poison laden stab of a Duck billed Platypus. Worthlessfacts.com told me.--Rosslessness 20:02, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

er... Well scientifically speaking, yes. However, I'm aiming for something a little more... humorous? -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  21:26, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

What if i repeat my answer, but add "boom boom" to the end?--Rosslessness 21:28, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

... A man was sitting at home one evening, when the doorbell rang. When he answered the door, a 6 foot tall cockroach was standing there. The cockroach immediately punched him between the eyes and scampered off. The next evening, the man was sitting at home when the doorbell rang again. When he answered the door, the cockroach was there again. This time, it punched him, kicked him and karate chopped him before running away. The third evening, the man was sitting at home when the doorbell rang. When he answered the door, the cockroach was there yet again. It leapt at him and stabbed him several times before running off. The gravely injured man managed to crawl to the telephone and summoned an ambulance. He was rushed to intensive care, where they saved his life. The next morning, the doctor was doing his rounds. He asked the man what happened, so the man explained about the 6 foot cockroach's attacks, culminating in the near fatal stabbing. The doctor thought for a moment and said, "Yes, there's a nasty bug going around."--Rosslessness 21:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Kekeke... That's nice, but not it. It's not from a joke or anything, because those things change with the weather. I picked a much more reliable source. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  22:33, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

This is vague. CLue, f you please.--Rosslessness 22:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Narwhale? Just noticed this quiz. I like it!--SeventythreeTalk 22:48, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

You mean Narwhal?--Rosslessness 22:55, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Heh, could be! My spelling isn't 100% a lot of the time. hte big bloody whale with what looks like a unicorn's horn stuck on the front, right?--SeventythreeTalk 22:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Thats the one. Now all you have to do is find the source to back it up. I suggest, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narwhal Apparently its the corpse whale. Very fitting.--Rosslessness 22:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Quite fitting, yes. Oh, and a bunch of submarines got named after it apparently.--SeventythreeTalk 23:03, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Wow, I really should look at recent changes more often! hmmmm, a giant whale with a needle nose...interesting mix there! Acoustic Pie 23:04, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Glad to see people other than me and the annoyingly successful pdeq competing.--Rosslessness 23:06, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Darn straight! Now that I realise that there are quizes going on and can use my vast knowledge of all things random to some use! Acoustic Pie 23:10, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Yay! --PdeqTalk* 23:48, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Are we talking about a trip across the seas, or under the sea?--Rosslessness 23:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh dear... I've been gone for a few hours and the topic changes to narwhals? Lemme tell ya this, your not even close. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  02:33, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I'm now ranging in opinion between the old kingdom of king arthur and the iliad by homer, which would be unicorn. --Rosslessness 20:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Something from Norse mythology? Hmm, this one is a toughie. --PdeqTalk* 21:51, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Llama with a knife?--SeventythreeTalk 21:56, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

That has to be right. --PdeqTalk* 21:57, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
<sarcasm> But of course </sarcasm> -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  22:06, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Lets have the hint then!--Rosslessness 18:26, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Amen to that. I'm only so good with search engines. --PdeqTalk* 22:14, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Weel... Hint it is. If I see you guys are still having a bit of trouble with this, I might put up another, but this should be satisfactory if you've seen it before. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  22:29, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Kingdom of Loathing. Stab bats. Shot in the dark here, although the kingdom sounds vaguely familiar. --PdeqTalk* 02:41, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Ridiculous. I knew it was kingdom of loathing. Could I be bothered to search for stab bats? No. Which is why I have lost. AGAIN.--Rossless
