Frank “Doc�? Barnard joined the army with the understanding that he would be sent to medical school once he had served as a medic for a few years. Instead, he was sent into Malton, where his unit scattered in panic, leaving Doc to fend for himself. True to his desire to become a doctor, Doc prefers to do no harm, and supports the survivor effort in The 4-H of Huntley Heights as their former Head Medical Officer, and as an information gatherer. Disgusted with the army’s lack of planning and support, Doc has decided to go AWOL if he ever gets out of Malton alive.
