Short Biography

Inscryer was one of the 700 people who've joined Urban Dead on the first day after its release, and like the others - he liked it. The lack of zombies in the earlier stages of the game caused him to focus on PKing to gain XP, and when he was about to join the mailing lists he've noticed that people there, didn't like, or to be more accurate -> hated, Pkers; in order to avoid being prejudged he came up with a new nick for himself: "Inscryer", which is no more than a random combinations of letters that form a readable word. The original nick will be left uncovered. (This is also the reason why it was only stated he was amongst the 'first 700' to join Urban Dead and not the exact number).

The Forum

During the Mailing Lists

After a week or so from the beginning of the game, some people started claiming that forums have advantages over mailing lists and that the mailing lists should be replaced with a forum. An argument started, during which Inscryer was on the side that supports the forums. In the end, someone suggested that there should be both a forum and mailing lists, and most of the people agreed, but Kevan said he doesn't want to run a forum, what ended the discussion.

Inscryer didn't want to give up, though, and since he already had previous experience with proboards he decided to create a forum himself. The forum used the same skin as the game, and had two sections - IC (in-character) and OOC (out-of character). In each section there were two boards. Shortly, the forum was a refined version of the mailing lists.

After posting a link to that forum on the Necrotech mailing list, someone replied that it's ok but not needed, and that topic died. It seemed like there aint going to be UD forums after all.

The Forums Arises

About three weeks later, when Urban Dead was getting more and more popular, people started asking for a forum again. Inscryer, who was still hoping for a forum, posted a link to the forum he've made once again, and this time Kevan seen it and said it's fine, later on also added a link to in on the FAQ. The forum has changed, sections were edited, boards were added, and without delay, the forum became highly popular - with over 200 new registered users on the first week.

That was not what Inscryer expected; and to make sure things will be kept in order, he quickly appointed a mod-team. The requirements were simple: If you had more than 50 posts, and Inscryer liked the way you type, you were in.

It was going fine at first, but very quickly, internet scum - such as spammers, flamers, and trolls arrived, and started harming the peaceful discussions that went on at the forums. At this point, the original rules of the forum (Don't spam & Don't flame. period.) were refined into a more official list, and a system of three strikes was put into action. A staff board, which was hidden to non-staff members was created, and there a 'warnings' thread existed, where the dedicated mods and Inscryer posted any warnings they gave to members who were breaking a rule. "belding" was the first person to be banned, after constantly trolling the forums and disagreeing with moderator decisions.

Administrations Change

A month after it's creation, the forum already had more than 1000 users, 80% of them active, and Inscryer realized he made a big mistake; He never wanted to be an admin, he just wanted to be a member in a forum... the only reason he became an admin is because no one else wanted to. Still, he was visiting the forum every day, posting, deleting spam from time to time, warning people with oversized signatures; but the real moderation work was done by the moderators he've appointed, not by him. Thus, even though some people believed he was doing a good job, he wasn't a real admin.

At one point, Inscryer decided to get out of this cycle by closing the forums and letting people move onto a different discussion board. He was not efficient doing so, and many people ended up flaming him as they were emotionally attached to the forums and thought it was his job to keep running them. Someone suggested that instead of forcing people to move on a different forum, Inscryer should just pass on administratorship to someone else. Xenomrph and Armourmeado were two people who were said to be appropriate for the job, and Inscryer trusted them both, so he gave them all 'mod powers' that proboards allows to transfer to users and removed the rest of the staff (to allow the new admins appoint their own staff team).

Unexpectedly, creating user groups was not one of those 'mod powers', so Xenomrph and Armourmeado were unable to nominate new people to the staff. Xenomrph emailed Inscryer and told him about this problem, so Inscryer came back created a moderator user-group when he read that mail. Later on, Inscryer edited the mod powers for moderators according to parameters Xenomrph gave him, and the forum was running smoothly once again.

Inscryer kept visiting the forum, and added in random graphical updates from time to time.

The Death of the Forums

At one point, some months later, a user flooded the forum with pornographic images and spam, and even though Inscryer deleted it only a few minutes after it was done, he wasn't fast enough - the user (the same one who did the things mentioned above) posted in the proboards official forum that the UD forum was breaching the ToS (aka- he was reporting his own actions under a different name), and the forum was deleted shortly after by the official proboards staff, who were too lazy then to actually investigate before shutting down a forum with over 2000 users.

Xenomrph and Inscryer had a short talk (at that point, no one still knew what happened to the forum, other than that user and the proboards staff), and they ended up posting in a thread on the proboards official forum asking about what happened to the forum. Some other users came and posted as well. After a discussion that lasted for over three weeks, a member of the proboards staff agreed to return the forum, but at that point people who were once regular posters of 'the forum' were now regular posters somewhere else.

Inscryer was no longer interested in Urban Dead, at all, and he left for other business. The forum was locked by Xenomrph.

The Forums Come Back to Life

A few months later, Inscryer saw the bookmark to Urban Dead on his bookmark list, as he apparently didn't get rid of it yet. he was just about to delete it, when he decided to take a look if anything had changed, and to his surprise the forum was opened once again, while the game itself got several new features. Inscryer updated all of the forum's images from *.jpg to *.png in order to increase the quality, and made some posts.

Later on he became an unofficial admin again, now that the forum was smaller and didn't really require administratorship (and because Xenomrph and Armourmeado stopped visiting the forums).

...to be continued? No one cares about him anymore, so nah, no continuation will come :p

(Last updated: 23/5/2006)

Inscryer currently has one active character. It is a level 37 survivor. In his time during the first months of playing he was a professional Zombie Hunter, and managed to ruin many zombie players' lives using shotguns and pistols, killing about 10 zombies every week (on averege). However, he got bored of doing so, and went on towards being a humanitarian. Now, he heals random people, and revives random zombies. As he's already in the maximum level (minus Brain-Rot) he cares not for XP.

He doesn't play very often, so his character may be found inactive for long periods, but this varies, as in some days, he's very active.

For the most time, he sits around in NecroTech buildings, gettings supplies (syrings and FA-kits from nearby hospitals) until his inventory is full, and than he goes out and uses it on whatever he encounters. In some occasions he also shoots zombies, and if he has enough AP he also heals than afterwards and than leaves.

Inscryer is not a member of any in-game player group. He was unable to maintain his status in a group like that due to his long inactivities.
