Extracts from the Diary of Pvt James McClair of the 81st Watford Legion
12.02.07 The legion entered Malton and quickly learned the extent of the problem. On the first day alone we lost 20 people to the Zombies and gangs.
29.02.07 We have taken refuge in a police station and frequently leave the station looking for survivors and supplies. We found a working radio set up with a generator and quickly made contact with many survivor groups, Despite the situation out here there seems to be a strong sense of community. Maybe the situation isnt as bad as it first seemed.
10.03.07 The station has been surrounded by zombies, we frequently shoot out the windows and sometimes unlucky people get dragged outside when a zombie lands a lucky grab. It is an Harsh world.
27.03.07 By this time half the Legion has been wiped out and we are running low on ammo, swapped Automatic Rifles for shotguns and pistols.
29.03.07 As soon as the sun came up we made our way to the roof of the station, i was given the job of destroying the barricades so that anyone could use this place as a safe house, a task i was not looking forward to, anyway we had decided to get across to the building next to us which we knew was empty because of trips there before we got surrounded. We build a bridge using pieces of desk and once everyone was across i was given the order over the radio to destroy the barricade, once the door could open it did open, almost as if the zombies could remember how to open the doors and a few of them could move as fast as i could, one of them bit me and it hurt like a bitch i can tell you. I only just made it across that bridge it snapped underneeth me and i was lucky to grab the window cill.
30.03.07 Made contact with a group of religious fanatics who claimed they could turn the zombies back to people, our commanding officer: Sgt Mctavish insisted we should 'Purge' the church under the '2005 CULT act'. We followed our orders and murdered everyone of them. Due to the fact we were all wearing gas masks by this time i guess we must have looked like a cult as well. Cult warfare...
01.04.07 The cut on my shoulder is looking nasty and it hurts more than being shot in the stomach.
02.04.07 We found a powered hospital, and i had my cut looked at and cleaned out, turns out it was infected with the zombie infection, there wasnt enough room for us in the hospital.
04.04.07 The hospital has become too crowded, some of our unit volunteered to stay and guard them but the rest of us said goodbye to them, the closest thing we knew to a home.
01.06.07 We found a lab inside a building with some scientists who claimed that they could turn zombies to humans. By this time there was only 10 of us left but Sgt 'Madman' Mctavish still tried to order us to 'Purge' them, we refused so in his anger he shot Alex, we then stripped him of his command and threw him into the street.
08.06.07 It had been a week since we killed Mctavish, i still hear those screams in my sleep, it scares the shit out of me. Anyway we earlier found some vehicles and some fuel, to be honest we didnt care what they were doing there. Later that day we got ambushed by a group of well organised scavengers, Johnny got hit badly, I took him to a hospital but had to leeve the others.
12.02.08 Made contact with from my Squad over the radio, they gave me my new and possibly last mission, i just wonder if there are any others left out there. Until today i had traveled around with a group of survivors but where i had to go i would drag no one.
13.02.08 I have arrived at Fort Creedy and have found it ruined, by now i was getting good at crossing the ruins but this isnt important, i was here to look for the package and that was what i would find. Turns out the package was a little girl, what the hell was a little girl doing in a fort, i strapped her onto my back and began moving to safety but as soon as i crossed the fort walls i saw the most amount of zombies i had ever seen all following one jeap which was heading straight for me. The jeap stopped outside the infirmary and they ran in, i ran in after them and we barricaded the door. Turns out the girl i had to rescue was the mayors daughter, he was paying the army a large amount to rescue her, i probably wont see any of it knowing the army, turns out the people i am taking refuge with are a family, the mayors daughter and their daughter play nicely and i get on well with the family, as long as i leave the gas mask off.
14.02.08 The family has agreed that if i get them out of the city they will let us use the jeap. I fought my way out to the jeap and pulled it up to the door of the infirmary and they got in, one of them drove (i didnt pay much attention to who drove) as i shot out of the windows, in about five minuits we arrived at the drop off point, as soon as the mayors daugher was safely inside they opened fire on us. The mother and the father were killed, i pulled the daughter out of the car before she was hit and i pulled her off into the ruins and we didnt stop until night fall. We managed to find a mall, crossing the carpark was the eeriest experience of my life especialy dragging a small girl behind me whilst wearing a gas mask. When we got to the door of the mall i knocked on the door and at first they said "no" to me but then i showed them the girl and they had to let us in. Once we got inside everyone was looking at us. My gas mask probably didnt help. At about midnight i heard that some survivors had taken fort creedy. I headed down there and left the girl behind me.
15.02.08 I made it down to fort creedy by the morning and helped the others build barricades. I recieved a new mission to meet an agent at the fort, ive heard he was a cop so that would be good to have at the fort. Im sleeping in the armory. Its very well barricaded so thats two barricades between me and the Zombies.
