Character info: Friar Lawrence

"We still have known thee for a holy man."

These words, from Shakespeare, were uttered by Prince Escalus at the conclusion of Romeo and Juliet. Since the fall of Malton, I have found solace in these words. They could be, I pray, a prophetic utterance for one such as me. My entire life I had followed the teachings of Christ to love my fellow man, and to give my life in service to many. This led to me to both ministry and medicine, as simultaneous doctor and chaplain at my small-town hospital, before being promoted to the surgery unit at St. Luke's Hospital in Tapton.

In my shallow understanding of God's will, I thought this meant that I was being rewarded somehow: this promotion, this salary increase and (most importantly) this chance to move my daughter Elisabeth into the well-reputed suburban schools of Malton. But then came the government quarantine; then came the disappearances and deaths; then came the madness of a city falling apart.

And, I will admit it: I nearly lost my sanity. When I rushed home to find my house ransacked, my beautiful wife Rachael missing, Elisabeth's school barricaded off, I nearly lost my mind. My faith, of course, shattered like everyone else's. Even now a dozen fractious churches spring up around the city, some embracing the death-without-death of the zombies, others worshiping all manner of false gods.

I contemplated suicide, contemplated joining the death cults, contemplated abandoning my faith entirely. What room for God is there in this city? But as I contemplated, I found myself learning more and more of his true nature, as revealed even in this madness. I left my old, shallow faith and name behind, and took on the name of Friar Lawrence, in my own belief that love can somehow conquer this hate.

"The voice of one crying in the wilderness."

I have journeyed to the edge of insanity and despair, and have returned. I have realized that God has appointed each of us here for a mission, and I intend to understand and embrace that mission, in the name of our Lord. My mission is to bring the light of Christ to those around me, insofar as it is possible. This means keeping myself and other survivors alive, protecting life wherever it is found, and providing counsel to those who will take it.

I do not aim to organize or join a church. I believe that any church that springs up in a power vacuum like we have in Malton would be inherently unsafe, unhealthy, unchristian. I only aim to serve Christ by serving my brothers and sisters in distress.

"Dost thou work wonders for the dead? Do the shades rise up and praise thee?"

There is a war also of philosophies active in Malton. There are those death cultists, who even in life support the spread of death. There are those dualists who believe that whether alive or undead, one should simply be what one is. But the Christian message is one of life winning over death: of death itself being killed, and captivity taken captive. I will have no part in promoting the activities of death on the earth.

Further, I believe that by the power of God's spirit, one can remain sane even in an undead state, and strive through whatever means to rejoin the living.

User info

My name is Nick Don Roark. I am 24 years old, and a graduate of Mid-America Christian University. I have a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Christian ministry, with a minor in Bible/Theology.

This game is not my life - video games on the whole are not my life. However, I am interested in the idea of play testing, as it were, my understanding of the Christian faith in a post-apocalyptic future scenario. I also want to be prepared in case of an actual zombie uprising. So this MMO definitely fits the bill.

If you want to discuss religion (or the lack thereof) with me at any time, feel free to email me at sirnickdon@gmail.com. (Notice that I said discuss. I have no interest in arguing about religion, as I have no strong belief that you are wrong and I am right. I simply believing in grabbing your truth and holding on tight.)
