Hi Charles Degaulle! As we can see, you made your first edits to this wiki not long ago. It's OK to be new, and we encourage new blood to join and enrich our community. At the same time, we understand that no one is a perfect wiki editor straight off the bat, and, just in case you get stuck, here're some useful tips to help you out. Please take the time to read them.

General Editing
  • Never delete someone else's edits, comments, responses, etc. off community pages. To do so is considered vandalism.
  • If you write a comment it's useful to sign it so that other editors will know who wrote it. You can write "~~~~" at the end of your comment to sign it, or there's this button Sign.png on the top of the edit page that will sign for you if you want.
  • You may want to know how your edits will look before they have been saved, to make sure that nothing is wrong. Use the "Preview" button before the "Save" button - it's your friend!
  • If you're slow in your editing and there's an editing conflict, you might not understand the error that you get. The easiest way to overcome the edit conflict is to copy whatever you have been writing, go back with your browser, and then re-enter the edit page so that you can add your edits without deleting those made before yours.
  • The wiki is a collaborative project, please do your best to work well with fellow editors.

Further help for editing the wiki can be found on the Help page.

Project Mentor

Project Mentor has been set up to allow new wiki users to have a more experienced wiki veteran mentor them for the first few weeks. Visit its page for more information!

Your User Page

One of the great things about the wiki is that every user can have his or her own user page! These pages are located in the User: namespace — in other words, they all begin with "User:" (yours is User:Charles Degaulle). The appropriate place to write about yourself or your characters is on your user page, or a subpage of that page (e.g., User:Charles Degaulle/Your Character's Name). Please don't create pages about yourself outside the User: namespace. Those pages will be moved into subpages of your user page, and the original speedily deleted. If you want something to be deleted, use the speedy deletion page; that's why Criterion 7 was made.

User Talk Pages

Every user has a talk page, found by clicking the "discussion" link at the top of his or her user page, or by going directly to it (yours would be User talk:Charles Degaulle). If you have a question for someone, or want to say something to him or her, his or her user talk page is the place.

However, many users on the wiki have established specific guidelines for how their user talk pages are to be treated — where new comments should go, how they should be written, what is or is not okay to talk about, etc. Be sure to look for guidelines on the talk page before you leave a comment.

If you don't see any guidelines specified, the assumption is that you should place your comment at the bottom of the talk page, under a level 2 heading. This can be accomplished by clicking the "+" link next to the "edit" tab at the top of the talk page, or by manually typing in your message in this format:

==Message title==

Your message goes here

When replying to a comment already laid on the page, remember to indent it correctly: do it by inserting as many colons plus one to the message you're replying to at the begining of your message, like this:

==Message title==

The Suggestions Page

We know that as a new user, you want to share your ideas with us. But a community as big as ours has already seen all kind of suggestions, and it's possible that we've already seen something very similar to the ideas you have. Follow these simple guidelines to make sure that your suggestion gets the respect that it deserves:

  • We strongly recommend that you read the Suggestions Dos and Do Nots and the Frequently Suggested Ideas pages so that you will have an idea of what kind of suggestions are likely to be accepted and what kind are ridiculous in the eyes of the community. The pages might look long and time-consuming to read, but you will find them entertaining and helpful.
  • You might also want to look at the Previous Days Suggestions. These contain a record of all previous suggestions. Use the search function in your browser to search for keywords relating to the suggestion you want to make.
  • It may be helpful to wait a few days to get a feel for the wiki and the other users before subjecting your idea to any possible criticism. If you're unsure, the Suggestions Discussion page is good neutral territory to suggest, gather feedback, and refine your idea before officially submitting it.
  • Write your suggestion according to these steps. If it looks too complicated for you, ask for help.
  • You can't modify a suggestion that you've written once it has been posted on the Suggestions page. You can withdraw and resubmit it with changes later, but only do that if people liked your original suggestion while requesting changes, not if it was Spaminated.
  • If you get stuck at ANY point in writing your suggestion, ask for help. There's no shame in being new and after a few times, you'll get the hang of it.
Additional Contacts

If there's anything not covered by this introduction, you still have plenty of avenues to find some extra help. Project Welcome and Project Mentor are perfect starting points, but if you have something more pressing at hand, don't be afraid to get in touch with the administration staff.

Remember: These guidelines may look difficult to learn and follow, but they're mainly just common sense! Think about what you're going to say or do before you do it! If you don't make an effort to do so, then why would others have the obligation to be nice to you? Feel free to ask any Project Welcome member if you need help, that's our purpose anyways!

If you want to delete this text, just delete the {{Welcomenewbie}} line from your talk page. Remember that you can always have access to these tips on the Project Welcome/Welcomenewbie page.--I'm a motherfuckin' lyrical wordsmith motherfuckin' genius! 05:59, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Hey

Don't know if you are new to this, but you should use this page as your user page, rather than creating a new page for your user page. If you are making a user page for a character, you should create it under your User Namespace, which is just your user name followed by a forward slash followed by your new page title. Feel free to talk to me if you have any issues.--I'm a motherfuckin' lyrical wordsmith motherfuckin' genius! 05:59, 15 July 2008 (BST)

Yes, I'm new to the Wiki

I'm a new user of the Wiki and I want to explore creating text and graphics that are user friendly and fun to read.

I subscribed because of my interest in this UD forum but I am intrigued by the mass community exposure that posting comments and editing can provide.

I will continue this interest during or outside of my role-playing interest Charles Degaulle

08-01-08 I need to list the 2 alt's that I created in Monroeville here.

I started UD on 07-05-08 and created Croc Ostimpy and when he died on 07-07-08 I got busy and created Croc's Son.

Both of these characters have become undead and I continued playing them for only a few days until I read the news that the revivification process would not be made a part of the new monroeville world.

I then created the character Charles Degaulle - the main character that I play in Malton.Charles Degaulle 06:19, 2 August 2008 (BST)

Creating my Character

Thanks for visiting my talk page.

I want to experiment with a lot of the themes and plots in the city of Malton and if you are interested in sharing any experiences or in offering any observations or criticisms then you are in the right place.

Since I'm new I want to practice a few general exercises on this page that will give me more experience to handle bigger topics.

1. I read about a few of the groups that are already established in Malton and I was impressed at the large number of themes already in play in the UD world.

2. I noticed that the UD Wiki had listed a lot of these groups under a general heading of either Human or Zombie groups. One good idea would be to examine the histories of the groups and try to determine if the theme would fit a Human victory, a Zombie victory or some kind of mixture. The large numbers of anti-social players that seem to delight in Nihilistic goals is also a factor in determining what the main body of story might involve.

This isn't supposed to be a critique or a celebration of the themes that might be possessed by groups of any type but a sort of chronicle of the events and places that make up the story of Malton. Charles Degaulle 15:31, 2 August 2008 (BST)

Hey, sounds like you are attracted to Malton for some of the same reasons I am. ;) The crazy interplay of groups is what's kept me interested in the place.
I dunno if you can really call it either a survivor or a zombie victory. I think it's more a story of survivors and zombies developing practices and rules, and forming alliances, that have enabled both to survive (and inflict damage on the other side). And then you have the crazy people that don't really fit either the survivor or zombie catatory...like the Quartly Study Group, and all varieties of PKers. Some of whom are indeed antisocial nihilistic agents of chaos...but others of whom portray themselves very much as anti-heroes. Have you checked out the Philosophe Knights or the Spartans yet? ;) --Jen 18:30, 7 August 2008 (BST) (or Kali or Christie...)
Glad you enjoyed it. ;) It is indeed one of the most amusing groups I've run into. I hope they're still in operation, actually...when The Dead horde came through, they had no respect for the library, and wiped out everybody. :( --Jen 01:04, 14 August 2008 (BST)

Hey charles

So anything you need help with, questions answered? --Rosslessness 16:42, 2 August 2008 (BST)

Hello Charles. Im reading and answering at the same time, so I'll try and answer as quickly as possible.

  • We all have our own area of the wiki. Mine is under the Page names of User:Rosslessness, yours is User:Charles Degaulle. To create new pages Simply write [[User:Charles Degaulle/WHATEVER YOU WANT YOUR PAGE TO BE CALLED]] And save the comment on your talk page.

IT should present you with a red link like this User:Charles Degaulle/Sandbox

Click on that link and you'll get a message saying "You've followed a link to a page that doesn't exist yet. To create the page, start typing in the box below (see the help page for more info). If you are here by mistake, just click your browser's back button."

Write whatever you want and then save at the bottom of the page.

  • Messages like the one jen sent you are already saved. You dont need to do anything If you click the You have new messages banner rather than Last Change It will show you your whole talk page and all your messages in full screen,

The easiest way to reply to people is the + symbol at the top of pages, between edit and history.

For some more history id suggest you read here [1]

hope this is enough to start you off. good luck, im online most days and more than willing to help. --Rosslessness 17:41, 8 August 2008 (BST)
