Let's Have A Talk

Alright, I'm gonna set down for you here some rules which I pray to Allah you will follow when making suggestions. This is far from a complete list, so in the future I'm going to request that you bring suggestions you're thinking about making directly to my talk page so we can butt skulls about it. I do this because it was your father's dying wish to me.

  • 1) Changes to basic game mechanics--Free Running, barricades, healing and so on--are usually rejected. It takes an exceptionally good idea to override this principle.
  • 2) Never mess with XP or AP. Simple, no? Do not ever, ever, EVER recommend anything that directly affects either one of these things.
  • 3) New classes: They seem like good ideas, and yet they are not. It's too radical a game change, plus most of the ideas people put forth are stupid. Don't be a fool, stay in school.
  • 4) Suggestions giving special privileges to people who paid for their accounts will receive a barrage of Spam votes that will rock you unto your heels. This Wikipedia nation is run by the proletariat.
  • 5) Skills that are intended to duplicate or provide a direct foil to other skills--i.e., an Infection for survivors--almost universally phail. Nay.
  • 6) Pure flavor suggestions--and I actually like these, might I add--generally meet with Kills too, just because. Don't ask me why, it's just one of those things.
  • 7) Suggestion length should be kept short and crisp, and banter as low as possible. Hit the bare essentials of your idea, quote stats, clarify anything that might need clarifying, and be done with it.
  • 8) Do not Re everybody that disagrees with you. If you have that many points to make, take it to the talk page.

That's it for the moment. I might add more as time goes on.

  • Hey, my suggestions aren't that bad ; ) --Darkstar949 02:18, 22 May 2006 (BST)
    • Nay, and indeed your suggestions are thousands of times greater than most that I have seen. Thus have I taken you under my wing, in an attempt to mentor you up to Suggestions page greatness. For you see, my boy, I saw on a spirit quest that you were the chosen one. Though you be now youthful and inexperienced, with the passage of time and the firm guidance of my hand you shall become the greatest of all Suggestors. All of Suggestiondom shall bow before your glory, and you shall reign supreme and alone as principate. The world shall be your oyster, should you choose to take it. Also, ignore the unbeliever. --Undeadinator 02:28, 22 May 2006 (BST)
      • Thanks for the compliment, and I to pay attention to the (useable) feed back that I have been getting, as well as what suggestions don't seem to fly as well. Belive it or not I actually killed alot of the suggestions that were on my list for a varity of reasons. However, on that note what do you think of the mentor idea that I tossed out there? --Darkstar949 02:32, 22 May 2006 (BST)
        • I'd say that's a no-go. Qualifies as a free action move, plus Mentor suggestions get almost universally panned anyways. --Undeadinator 02:54, 22 May 2006 (BST)
          • Thats kinda sad though, another game that I play has a very elegent design for it that works well with the game. Oh well, "the more you know". How about lighters? --Darkstar949 02:59, 22 May 2006 (BST)
            • Despite the recent game change, buffing and nerfing search rates is still a no-go on the Suggestions page. It's confusing like that sometimes; it helps to remember that it's a completely separate entity from the game, and that Kevan probably has different views than most of its users. If you want to get all existentialist about it, you don't really need to make suggestions for a Keep, just a Kill so they stay in the archive. Kevan != Suggestions page. --Undeadinator 03:10, 22 May 2006 (BST)
              • True, but it is nice when they get to the peer reviewed page ^^. Actually, my first idea for the lighter would likely get Spamed out of existence even though it does play into the "fear of the unknown" that everyone seems to love. One of the ideas that I have had (that I would never suggest due to the fact that it affects the entire world) is that survivors are in fear of unlit places and require light to search for items, which would lead towards a need for fires, flashlights, and lighters. So the lighter was kinda built in that direction. --Darkstar949 03:18, 22 May 2006 (BST)
    • Yes, yes they are. Sonny Corleone WTF 02:25, 22 May 2006 (BST)
      • I can find some really bad ones if you want a comparison. --Darkstar949 02:27, 22 May 2006 (BST)
        • That's like saying "Gonorrhea isn't that bad when compared to AIDS." Sonny Corleone WTF 02:29, 22 May 2006 (BST)
          • Well, which would rather have idea's that in retrospec are not the best (belive it or not, I do learn from ligitimite feedback), or more more SSS or WTFCENTAURS suggestions? --Darkstar949 02:31, 22 May 2006 (BST)

Darkness

While this isn't intended to humorous - but you should get a kick out of it. Since the server does not have a day/night cycle (and rightfully so due to world time zone issues), large buildings (i.e. towers, malls, ect) would have reduced chance to find items (about 20% off the standard rates) due to the lack of light and the unsettling effect it has on your nerves (a zombie might be hiding). To counter this effect you can either use a flashlight (new item), or power the building with a generator. Verdict? --Darkstar949 04:18, 23 May 2006 (BST)

  • You mean, do I think you should post it as a suggestion? Aw, hellz naw. In terms of comedic appeal, try it again with face huggers and this shall receive the Centaur seal of approval. --Undeadinator 04:50, 23 May 2006 (BST)
    • Nah, put it on your page for lack of a better idea where to put it for discussion. Do you think it might fly with further work, or is it DOA? --Darkstar949 04:53, 23 May 2006 (BST)
      • Sorry about the late reply, your name stayed all purple and what have you for some reason. As far I can see, this one's pretty much Dead on Arrival, yeah...but as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't quite fall into the blackened territory of Spam. But you'll get a few of those anyways if you post it. And 20% is definitely way too much a nerf, especially considering that we're talking about malls. If I think of anything else, I'll drop ya a line. --Undeadinator 05:46, 26 May 2006 (BST)

'First died'

Hi. On the suggestions page you said you didn't know what 'first died' meant. I've always thought it was when you actually first died...but I don't know! Jonny12 W! 23:46, 24 June 2006 (BST)

That's what I thought - but if you look at my profile it's not filled in, even though my character has died 24+ times. Maybe it only applies to zombie characters? --Darkstar949 08:03, 25 June 2006 (BST)
I can confirm that. "Deaths" and "First Died" disappear while you are alive. –Xoid STFU! 17:21, 26 June 2006 (BST)
Might be a bug in my profile then I still have the unknown on it. --Darkstar949 17:24, 26 June 2006 (BST)
If you started as a zombie then maybe that's why it puts 'unknown'? Or is that 'during the early outbreaks'? Jonny12 W! 19:54, 26 June 2006 (BST)

Follow Subway/Subway Map

Hey! Someone suggested a Subway Map be created to help in a construction of a Subway skill. 'arm suggested I leave you a message on your talk page to ask you to come back to the Follow Subway discussion. I really like your subway idea. I think it needs a lot of work to get it passed, but I have confidence something can be worked out with it because there seems to be a lot of ongoing interest.--Lectrespectre 21:02, 18 July 2007 (BST)
