Heh, sorry. That's a good sign, call me imcompetent or whatever, sometimes I find reading shit loads in a suggestion annoying. Break it down, and bullet points will be useful, leave the justification of implementation to the end. --Changchad WTFW!SGP 18:34, 30 May 2006 (BST)

Niilomaan

Probably has something to do with the fact that many people positively hate people commenting on things when they have no clue what they're talking about. It's a very common gripe, particularly when people continually make the same mistakes again and again, you tend to lose your patientence for that sort of thing. –Xoid STFU! 10:11, 19 June 2006 (BST)

Power Station idea

Seriously, I'm open to constructive critisism. What do you think needs to be changed most?--Labine50 MHG|MalTel 07:11, 1 July 2006 (BST)

Mod?

Excuse me, but are you a mod? I was under the impression that only mods had permission to strikeout 'invalid' parts of votes, but I see nothing indicating that you are a mod, and I see you have struck out a significant portion of another user's vote. I would not disagree that his comments should have been appended to the actual suggestion instead of in the voting field, whereas he was the author and all, but still, there are certain authorities that need to be respected, and it is a bad precedent to set if any user can strikeout another user's vote. That is the sole domain of the mods, and should not be placed in the power of the rest of the users. If that is how the wiki works, there's nothing to stop me from striking your comments on the grounds of non-author reply to a vote.--Burgan 01:25, 2 July 2006 (BST)

Struck vote

I'm curious about why you struck part of the author's vote on "Necrotic Symbiotes (Revised)." Was the vote edited after the fact to add that information? If not, I wouldn't have struck it, because even though it's long, it's still on topic. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 01:26, 2 July 2006 (BST)

No, actually it was that big from the beggining. I added the strike out because i tought that kind of long coment by the author should be added as a note. --Matthew Fahrenheit T 01:33, 2 July 2006 (BST)
Sorry to jump in on your conversation here, but it is what I was getting at in my comment above. This action was incredibly subjective, and I see no rule explicitly prohibiting what he did. There is a rule against discussing votes at length, but discussion requires dialog and he was merely stating his concerns and opinions. That rule seems to be used only when there is a Re: chain after a vote.
I read your discussion on BobHammero's page, and I'm all for more people policing for unjustified votes, but striking his vote like that was a little over zealous in my opinion. --Burgan 01:44, 2 July 2006 (BST)
The strike out was made in order to keep a certain order in the votes section, and to tip off the author that such comment wuold be much better in another section of the suggestion (a note at the end of the suggestion's description) than cluttering the votes section as it was. My apologies if you think that mine was a controversial choice, i'll make sure not to do that again. --Matthew Fahrenheit T 01:55, 2 July 2006 (BST) BTW im editing my sig and cant seem to make the talk page link work. Any tips? --Matthew Fahrenheit T 01:56, 2 July 2006 (BST)
Yeah, you've got it working, I just think a wiki page can not contain a link to itself. It works fine on your sig on my talk page. --Burgan 02:06, 2 July 2006 (BST)

Two things:

  1. The signature link is working fine. Linking to the page that you're currently on produces bold, unlinked text.
  2. In the future, instead of striking out part of a vote like that, I would just leave a note on the author's talk page asking him or her to follow normal conventions in the future.

Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 07:19, 2 July 2006 (BST)

Re: Tips

First off, would you mind please posting at the top of the relevant subsections? Thanks. Now, to answer your questions:

  1. I would not strike out part of the vote. Generally speaking, votes are either struck completely for some reason, or left alone. I would ask Sonny to stop putting in random crap into his votes, though, if it bothers you (so many people put random shit into their votes that I tend to ignore it, myself, but feel free to take that problem on if you want.)
  2. I'd say that's a trolling-based vote, yes, although it also qualifies (barely) as a legitimate vote, because he does specify his reasoning.

Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 07:41, 2 July 2006 (BST)

Wrong vote

I think you're right but I voted on the other already. I ain't too sure. Either way I still like that suggestion so the keep stays the same. Sonny Corleone WTF 04:24, 3 July 2006 (BST)

I'm hoping that one of these suggestion would get the old zombies back. Maybe even Petro so that he can relieve me of duty. I'll switch it though. Sonny Corleone WTF 04:45, 3 July 2006 (BST)

Misunderstanding?

As you can see by checking out my profile, I'm a nonviolent survivor with no combat skills, only healing and science. Moreover, I'm not in Barrville at all - I'm in Richmond Hills, on my way to Caiger to hear Codename V speak at the Extravaganza.

Can you please clear this issue up? Perhaps check your history and find out the exact name of the guy who shot and/or axed you. I don't kill zombies - I just extract their DNA :p

Cordially --Rheingold 04:46, 3 July 2006 (BST).

Yeah, that must be it. I saw him in Ackland once. Funny coincidence, but he joined months before I did, he's not an alt. I only play one character. --Rheingold 05:54, 3 July 2006 (BST).

A little bit easier

If I were you, I'd go a little bit easier on the suggestions page. While I would have struck the "Tofu" vote as well, I would have left the "centaurs" (sometimes "WTFCENTAURS" or something like that) explanation for the "Spam" vote. I don't know how much history you have under your belt, but there is a historical use of WTFCENTAURS and similar comments being used to denote "this suggestion really really sucks, and will be spaminated."

I guess overall what I mean is, you have to walk a fine line between enforcing the rules, and being overly strict -- which sometimes means you don't enforce the rules. I think I've gotten more lax on most of them over time as I've come to realize that most of the rules are probably a bit too strict. Some things to think about. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 10:30, 3 July 2006 (BST)

You need to stop screwing with votes. Max Grivas JG,T,P! 10:57, 3 July 2006 (BST)

I am referring to your striking valid votes on more than one occasion. Take another moth or two of reading and voting yourself before trying to make these types of determinations. A few of this instances have been close IMHO to the good faith line and perhaps themselves crossed into vandalism. Take a deep breath re-read the rest of the comments you've been left, take a deep breath and then make your own decisions. Have fun, but play nice. Max Grivas JG,T,P! 22:38, 3 July 2006 (BST)

Welcome template

I've made some changes to the {{Welcomenewbie}} template, so I hope you don't mind. I also changed the Project welcome/Welcomenewbie page so that it just calls the template. That way, whenever we change the template, the other page will change as well, so that they're always consistent with each other. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 19:45, 12 July 2006 (BST)

Good! Now i want to include some heading in the Project Welcome mainpage, to present the template and to invite everyone to use it and/or improve it as neccesary. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC | T | W! 19:49, 12 July 2006 (BST)
One more quick thing: I moved Project welcome/Welcomenewbie to Project Welcome/Welcomenewbie and put the redirect up for speedy deletion (the correct page title is Project Welcome). –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 19:50, 12 July 2006 (BST)

Desperado

Thanks for the help and the compliments. Would you check out some of my responses on the suggestions discussion page? Also, is there a limit to what is considered an 'appropriate' number of suggestions to have posted on the discussion page at once? I came up with 2 more, but I don't want anyone to feel like I'm trying to monopolize the page. --Desperado 22:36, 13 July 2006 (BST)

Posting more than three in a day (on the actual suggestions page, not the talk page) is not allowed. Posting lots of suggestions when people are consistently disliking them is likely to get you heavily flamed. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 22:46, 13 July 2006 (BST)

If you read my user page, you'd realise the only reason why I bother helping newbies is because Project Welcome members tend, as a whole, to do jack shit. There are a couple of really active members and the rest do –nothing–. I'm really not the best person to help out in many cases, as newbies tend to piss me off only mildly less than n00bs do. Channel 4 News Team

Thanks! It's good to know Ackland and Nichols fell before a worthy foe- a man of Class, like yourself. And I do hope there were many like you on the other side. I don't know if the Gods have quite abandoned us, but things are looking bad for malls across Malton, that's for sure! Still, I can't help but feel like it's a good thing for survivors and the game, as a whole.

It's far more Glorious to capture a place than to hold it. The former is battle and the latter is taking your prize and then sitting on it until someone stronger comes and takes it away. Even if you manage to keep it, what more can you do than sit and say, "I once was great"? No, far better Ackland and Nichols fall than suffer a fate like that. All and all, losing them comes to nothing. I've got six syringes on hand and the Channel 4 News Team will be back up and running in short order. We're down two malls, but if we want another, we can take it, use it as long as it's worth a damn, and then leave.

Don't worry about the Caigers. They may be famous, but it's not a good kind of fame, anymore. And if you want to ignore them, it's not really that hard. Just don't go to Caiger! It's not like they'll leave. Well, that's not fair. I got a lot of them to come down to Ackland with me, way back in May... but I suppose those people weren't really Caigers at heart.

Either way, you stay Classy down there with the RRF! --Ron Burgundy 09:07, 19 July 2006 (BST)

Thanks =). Some people at the Whatmore Building is becoming paranoic, including members of the YRC and the Abandoned. It's too bad to see good people calling any enemy "zeger" just because he's an enemy or say "i'm gonna complain to Kevan because mr.X broke my genny". I suppose it's normal: when there's peace between wars, people see enemies everywhere. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC | T | W! 06:53, 26 July 2006 (BST)
Yeah, people use lots of ad hominem attacks, and say lots of stupid things about my group. I know that. I've gotten used to it. It's one of the downsides of playing in an unpopular way. But I've learned to take it in stride. After all, imagine how funny it would be if someone actually complained to Kevan that someone broke their generator, or something like that. They'd just make themselves look like an enormous fool. :P –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 07:44, 26 July 2006 (BST)
By the way, if you want, you can mention to the YRC that we have no interest in attacking them, so they have no reason to be afraid of us. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 07:46, 26 July 2006 (BST)
Yeah. When you came to the suburb, a guy recalled your group because of the zerging accusations against you and Jimbo Bob (really old!). And I wasn't talking only about your group, but the Neon Knights, La libération de Yagoton and the Disciples of Zeko. Some people can't stand that there's people that likes to play the game on their own way, so they start mouthing off. Whenever I see these group's members, I almost feel like being friends with them ^_^ --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC | T | W! 07:55, 26 July 2006 (BST)
It's not the YRC that is worried about you, but mostly the members of the Abandoned that have some influence on our ranks. I don't know what's the past history on the foundation of the clinic between the YRC and the Abandoned, but on my concerns they can go to hell with any survivor group that claims to defend a place. Not by chance I have my zed on the Big Bash --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC | T | W! 08:01, 26 July 2006 (BST)
Wow, yeah. I haven't heard someone accuse Jimbo and me of zerging since we first started the group! Word must take a while to get around, huh? I'm glad you don't mind us hanging out in the suburb. You're right, though, that the Abandoned does mind. Probably because we're kicking their asses. ;) –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 08:03, 26 July 2006 (BST)
Actually, most of the members of the Abandoned that still keep a functioning brain are going rogue: It's the case of "No Soap No Radio" (recently) and "Eric Wolton" (some time ago). You came just in the right moment to overthrow what was left of them. And now that Yagoton is so close of a siege, when the zeds come I'll probably be better moving back to South Blythville. Nomad's time they call it, and it's becoming the only opportunity survivors have. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC | T | W! 08:13, 26 July 2006 (BST)
Yeah, I had heard that most of the "good" Abandoned players had (forgive my bad pun) abandoned the group. It would seem that the rest of the group is more scarce in the suburb now, too. But the zombies are getting close, so we're going to have to be careful. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 08:28, 26 July 2006 (BST)

Hi! First I want to thank you for showing interest on improving the template. Now that the thanks are given, I must point out that I had that idea some time ago (to include the template on a colored box), but its current format makes it look out of place. It's too big to be on a colored box, and according to its usage, if that change were to be implemented, it wuold look even more out of place because both the title "== Welcome to our Wiki ==" and the user's sign wuold fall outside the box (like here). --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC | T | W! 19:27, 27 July 2006 (BST)
Hmm. Ok, I admit I didn't have a look at the usage that much. The sig could be handled with parameter to template, but would require either a) new template to prevent breaking current usages, or b) update to wiki software that would allow default parameters. But neither would handle the title issue... Only possibilities would be to protect the template from editing, which would obviously be bad for you and other Project Welcome members, or maybe by placing HUGE html comments inside the template warning newbies from editing it, and hope that they can read. But yeah, not worth it.
Although I like it more when it's inside the box, as seen here. --Brizth M T 19:46, 27 July 2006 (BST)

I ask you to reconsider.

I am in fact serious in my bid for mod. In spite of the history of animosity between our two groups in game, I have tried to moderate tensions on the wiki. I ended a fued between myself and Amazing on the wiki while we warred in game (no small feat considering the animosity between him and my roommate), I worked out a ceasefire between the CDF and the faggots and am currently trying to renew a more comprehensive version. I have done the utmost to be calm, respectful, and reasonable despite the sometimes harsh invective i have been faced with. I am stepping up for this position only because I feel I can help the wiki. I ask you only to give your decision more thought and will respect your decision either way.Jjames 04:16, 30 August 2006 (BST)

Lookin Good

Oh, don't worry, I'm back and looking Good- damn good. Revived a few zombies and took off to heal myself and enjoy a cool glass of Scotch. I'll see what there is left for me to kill tomorrow! -Ron Burgundy 07:05, 1 September 2006 (BST)

Thanks for the wiki help

I thought it was something like that, but I couldn't find how to do it on the "help" pages. I'll edit the links so they point in the right direction.

Yeah, I don't really know what I'm doing. --Karen Eliot 07:07, 1 September 2006 (BST)

I never saw Burgundy being PKed if you ask me: everytime he died it was a break-in and he always get dragged first. That happens when you make a name by yourself. I killed Petrosjko outside the Blackmore Building, and I can say you this: just killing is not big deal. No one will remember me because of that =(. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 05:26, 4 September 2006 (BST)

Orly?

And what makes you so sure I'm a "Selfish Imperialist"? XD --Duce Nauks 20:42, 12 September 2006 (BST)

The "selfish" thing was mostly added by you, exagerating some of my remarks. The Imperialist part, well, anyone can say it by looking at your group and your little comics about that George Hayduke guy (that I must say are entertaining, but yet you must do something about the size of these images). --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 23:37, 12 September 2006 (BST)
No, you implied selfish when you asked me if I ever do things for other people. I really didn't exagerate that much. And just because I'm part of a group that has "Imperial" in the name, doesn't mean I am. Example. Dunnel Hills has "Police" In the name, but are they all real Policemen?--Duce Nauks 21:24, 13 September 2006 (BST)
I said that because you were saying that making several deletion requests (That BTW most are justified and are going to end in a deletion or a merge) is automatically brown nosing so "they" (I suppose the Bureaucrats) make me a Sysop. I invite you to check my contributions and decide if the last 4 months I was just "brown nosing" (I'm from Argentina, I don't understand English slang too well but I can guess what this means). You're taking a friendly comment too seriously, loosen up! --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 00:50, 14 September 2006 (BST)
Oh my god, I was the one basically telling you to lighten up. Funny. It just seems rediculous that so many delete requests would come from one person all at once. As for time you've been on the Wiki, I win =P. But seriously, good luck with the voting on becoming a moderator. We really don't have enough.--Duce Nauks 19:46, 14 September 2006 (BST)
I was examining Special:Specialpages for a category that could help to find a good amount of needing-to-be-deleted pages without the need to skim trough a lot of legit pages. I found Special:Lonelypages, with a ration of 50% unused pages, of a total of 482. But when I was examining, I found some cases that didn't fit so well for a straight Speedy deletion, but were just clutter or not very appropiately placed on the main namespace. I didn't want to leave them alone because it could be months or even years before someone else notices them, so I listed them. It's a tinny percentage of deletion requests considering that I checked almost 500 pages and succesfully requested for speedy deletion half of them. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 19:56, 14 September 2006 (BST)

Unsuccessful

Roughly 40% against, and the ratio was fairly consistent in both total and mod "votes". While you may not know some of the againsts, I do. Some of them are wiki nobodies, some of them are quite level headed. I know most of the vouchers too, a large number are wiki nobodies, the rest are pretty much mods. I honestly don't think you're suited to the job, and even your vouches were apprehensive. I can't really promote you based on all that. –Xoid STFU! 07:49, 16 September 2006 (BST)

Sorry to hear about the denial of promotion, but maybe if you "take it easy" for a while and avoid stirring things up while helping out where you have been you can try again in 60-90 days or so. Conndrakamod T CFT 08:05, 16 September 2006 (BST)

Damn. I don't know if you'll read this, but I'll miss you. You did your best at everything. If you messed up, you made it right. You were civil to others, and that's a trait that's sorely lacking here. Best of luck to whatever you pursue. --Darth Sensitive Talk W! 01:31, 20 September 2006 (BST)

Good luck in the real world, Matt! I hear there are no zombies out there, but there are bears. Watch out for the bears. The difference is subtle, but if you survived Blackmore (and I never got a chance to thank you for that revive), I'm sure you'll do just as well anywhere else. Thanks, by the way, for the revive! As a response to everyone

Thanks for your kind words. Thanks for a great time on Wiki and ingame as well. There's always more on the horizon that we can see with our bare eyes, and I'm still fighting to get my eyes accostumed to the sun (methaporically, I didn't stay on my room for so long =P). I'm happy that you want to take my advice seriously (as it was written), but there's always more than that. But I feel that you'll do just as good. Just stay tuned to your hearths, and that'll be enough.

PS: Ron, that comb really means something to me, thanks! Makes me want to hold the doors at Blackmore beside you again. When in Rome... --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 08:40, 9 October 2006 (BST)

Welcome back!

While I don't even pretend to try and run things at the YRC, I do try my best to keep tabs on the coming and goings of our contributors. And after a long bit of goings, we're glad to see you finally back on the Wiki! Now get to work IN-game too, Southern Yagoton needs your help! :p --MorthBabid 06:42, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
