Howdy

Hi Probee! As we can see, you made your first edits to this wiki not long ago. It's OK to be new, and we encourage new blood to join and enrich our community. At the same time, we understand that no one is a perfect wiki editor straight off the bat, and, just in case you get stuck, here're some useful tips to help you out. Please take the time to read them.

General Editing
  • Never delete someone else's edits, comments, responses, etc. off community pages. To do so is considered vandalism.
  • If you write a comment it's useful to sign it so that other editors will know who wrote it. You can write "~~~~" at the end of your comment to sign it, or there's this button Sign.png on the top of the edit page that will sign for you if you want.
  • You may want to know how your edits will look before they have been saved, to make sure that nothing is wrong. Use the "Preview" button before the "Save" button - it's your friend!
  • If you're slow in your editing and there's an editing conflict, you might not understand the error that you get. The easiest way to overcome the edit conflict is to copy whatever you have been writing, go back with your browser, and then re-enter the edit page so that you can add your edits without deleting those made before yours.
  • The wiki is a collaborative project, please do your best to work well with fellow editors.

Further help for editing the wiki can be found on the Help page.

Project Mentor

Project Mentor has been set up to allow new wiki users to have a more experienced wiki veteran mentor them for the first few weeks. Visit its page for more information!

Your User Page

One of the great things about the wiki is that every user can have his or her own user page! These pages are located in the User: namespace — in other words, they all begin with "User:" (yours is User:Probee). The appropriate place to write about yourself or your characters is on your user page, or a subpage of that page (e.g., User:Probee/Your Character's Name). Please don't create pages about yourself outside the User: namespace. Those pages will be moved into subpages of your user page, and the original speedily deleted. If you want something to be deleted, use the speedy deletion page; that's why Criterion 7 was made.

User Talk Pages

Every user has a talk page, found by clicking the "discussion" link at the top of his or her user page, or by going directly to it (yours would be User talk:Probee). If you have a question for someone, or want to say something to him or her, his or her user talk page is the place.

However, many users on the wiki have established specific guidelines for how their user talk pages are to be treated — where new comments should go, how they should be written, what is or is not okay to talk about, etc. Be sure to look for guidelines on the talk page before you leave a comment.

If you don't see any guidelines specified, the assumption is that you should place your comment at the bottom of the talk page, under a level 2 heading. This can be accomplished by clicking the "+" link next to the "edit" tab at the top of the talk page, or by manually typing in your message in this format:

==Message title==

Your message goes here

When replying to a comment already laid on the page, remember to indent it correctly: do it by inserting as many colons plus one to the message you're replying to at the begining of your message, like this:

==Message title==

Your message

The Suggestions Page

We know that as a new user, you want to share your ideas with us. But a community as big as ours has already seen all kind of suggestions, and it's possible that we've already seen something very similar to the ideas you have. Follow these simple guidelines to make sure that your suggestion gets the respect that it deserves:

  • We strongly recommend that you read the Suggestions Dos and Do Nots and the Frequently Suggested Ideas pages so that you will have an idea of what kind of suggestions are likely to be accepted and what kind are ridiculous in the eyes of the community. The pages might look long and time-consuming to read, but you will find them entertaining and helpful.
  • You might also want to look at the Previous Days Suggestions. These contain a record of all previous suggestions. Use the search function in your browser to search for keywords relating to the suggestion you want to make.
  • It may be helpful to wait a few days to get a feel for the wiki and the other users before subjecting your idea to any possible criticism. If you're unsure, the Suggestions Discussion page is good neutral territory to suggest, gather feedback, and refine your idea before officially submitting it.
  • Write your suggestion according to these steps. If it looks too complicated for you, ask for help.
  • You can't modify a suggestion that you've written once it has been posted on the Suggestions page. You can withdraw and resubmit it with changes later, but only do that if people liked your original suggestion while requesting changes, not if it was Spaminated.
  • If you get stuck at ANY point in writing your suggestion, ask for help. There's no shame in being new and after a few times, you'll get the hang of it.
Additional Contacts

If there's anything not covered by this introduction, you still have plenty of avenues to find some extra help. Project Welcome and Project Mentor are perfect starting points, but if you have something more pressing at hand, don't be afraid to get in touch with the administration staff.

Remember: These guidelines may look difficult to learn and follow, but they're mainly just common sense! Think about what you're going to say or do before you do it! If you don't make an effort to do so, then why would others have the obligation to be nice to you? Feel free to ask any Project Welcome member if you need help, that's our purpose anyways!

If you want to delete this text, just delete the {{Welcomenewbie}} line from your talk page. Remember that you can always have access to these tips on the Project Welcome/Welcomenewbie page. --Thari TжFedCom is BFI! 17:33, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Suggestion Page

Hey. You didn't sign your response and you didn't sign it either. The author still has to sign replies to votes so we can make sure everything is on the level and it's not a non-author re. Check my edit to see what I mean about indenting. That kind of formatting thing makes me want to eat kittens. Cute, playful, little kittens who just want to play with a ball of yarn and cuddle. Next time...

Also, people spam it because area of effect items (AoE) are frowned upon. I'm not sure if that's on the frequently suggested or not, but I suggest you check that page out as well.

By the way, wherever you heard that the UD Wiki is full of A-holes is right. Problem is, most of those people are veteran members or even mods. You were fortunate that none of them got to voting on your suggestion, or else you would see what I mean. The vast majority of this community is spam-happy, and will spam anything they don't like. They are also vehemently opposed to certain types of suggestions and will spam them regardless of whether or not they actually have merit simply based on the concept. Get used to it, if you plan on staying here. All that said, though, there isn't too much drama outside of the suggestions page, and as you have seen, there are a lot of cool people here as well. You'll learn which is which soon enough. --Reaper with no name TJ! 17:59, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Reaper goes too far, its only half full of A.Holes; some of us are idiots, morons, nerds or just very rude people with nothing better to do! I of course am merely a pain in the Ass ;-) --Honestmistake 18:04, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Well, yeah, I gues I did go a bit far. I've been a bit stressed out lately. But my little tirade there can give you an idea of what the suggestions page will do to you. No matter how much reason you throw at people, some of them will still just say "spam" and won't give any actual reason (or if they do, it will be one whose logic is clearly flawed). It's kinda like like having that circle of old people who run everything and are opposed to any new ideas because they are so set in their ways that they won't even stop to consider other ideas. That's really how the place works with regards to the suggestions page. If an idea can possibly be construed as affecting certain gameplay elements (PKing, barricades, area of effect, auto-attacks, auto-defense, % weakening, specialization, to name a few), it is almost guaranteed to fail, regardless of whether or not it would actually make the game better. --Reaper with no name TJ! 19:06, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

The suggestions page is a cesspool. There are assholes, but most of them left when the fools took over the suggestions page. Now we just have bitter old voters and foolish new voters. Basically, the voting system is a ridiculous system that should not be used, votes and voices should be earned, not handed out to any fool who can register for a wiki account. That said, Kevan does check the suggestion page, and has implemented peer rejected before. Use the talk page if you want feedback. --Burgan 18:36, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you all, for the perspective. I've got a warm fuzzy and don't feel so abused now. I read some of yesterday's suggestions that were posted AFTER mine, and I'm pretty sure I was being mocked (which is fine). Going back to my suggestion, let me preface by saying: forget about what I forgot to include or how I worded it or whatever. I can't believe that Area Of Effect weapons suggestions are so anathema to folk. Every single piece of zombie fiction: films, comics, games (there's a zombie board game), incorporates some sort of area of effect weapon. The mythology is rife, you gotta have one! And there's got to be a way to include it in UD in such a way that is fair and fun and doesn't overbalance. I say this in the wake of recent changes to the game that many folk believe are in favor of zombies, although these same folk fairly include that the game was survivor-favored before these changes. (shaking head) There's just gotta be a way to have something - pipe bombs, molotovs, grenades, whatever - something. On the tangent of damage (I didn't list any yesterday), I thought of this this morning. Set damage at 20, for this fictitious pipe bomb say. Now you have the most damaging weapon in the game, right? BUT! Divide the 20 by the number of zombies in the square. So, 10 zombies would get a mere 2hp off, each. Blah, blah, blah, blah...I'll shut up now. --Probee 23:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
