Description and History

Maltonhospitals.PNG

Anne General Hospital is an old hospital located in the suburb of Dulston. There are two other hospitals in Malton that share its name, located in Mockridge Heights and Whittenside. Originally built in 1924 on Bellot Street with 52 beds, the building was later used as a center for fever cases requiring isolation. It was a two-story building with 30 beds on the main floor, 22 more beds and living quarters on the top floor, and doctor's and administration offices in the basement. The staff was headed by none other than the nearly unknown Dr. Frank Fisher. No one knew anything about him, but he had amazing medical credentials.

In 1944, Dr. Gregory Cochrane, who had been in the practice for several years, was appointed Superintendent of Medical Services, succeeding Dr. Fisher. Over the years the need for additional beds grew, and on February 3rd, 1945, a new wing was hastily opened, allowing the hospital to accommodate 32 additional patients. Yet this was still not sufficient to adequately service the area. The hospital was nearly always overcrowded when men and women returned from the war overseas, and the need grew urgent. Therefore, at the behest of Dr. Cochrane, plans were made to further renovate the old building.

It was estimated that the renovations would cost around $175,000 and that it was to be raised by voluntary contributions from the people of Dulston as the city was cash-strapped at the time. This amount would be matched by a local corporation, MalCo Ltd, and the Commission of Government agreed to provide the remainder of the financing. The people of Dulston gave willingly and generously. The actual cost of the construction was almost $190,000. The official opening was held on January 5th, 1951, with Malton's Mayor performing the ceremony. This new hospital had 136 beds, with the first patients moving into the building on February 13th.

Post-Outbreak History

Ever since the "Malton Incident", though, the hospital remained in disuse, going back and forth between survivor and zombie hands. It was briefly renamed Baghdad General Hospital by DORIS in late 2006. The Dulston Infection Treatment and Prevention Squad assumed control of the hospital in December 2006 and intended to keep both a fueled generator and radio transmitter running at all times. Anyone in the area that required medical assistance was welcome to visit. Injured survivors arriving at the hospital found that active members of the D.I.T.P.S acted immediately in providing assistance. The have remained active in the area and have been the primary force defending Anne General until at latest report February 2012.

During this period, the hospital was a popular stop for the Shamblin' Crooners, who captured the hospital four times between April 2006 and February 2007. Persistent zombie break-ins continued at a pace of about one or two a month for three years, with peaks in activity around August 2007, June and September 2008, and December 2011. Most of the battles were between feral zombies and the D.I.T.P.S, with aid from the Dulston Alliance and Dead vs Blue. In August 2008 the Angry Vaginas zombie group first took control of the hospital and intended to keep it ruined at all times. They have continued to battle for it into 2011. Meanwhile, in September 2011, the Rhodes Renegades briefly declared Anne General their headquarters before being evicted by the Angry Vaginas.

Mandate

The staff at Anne General Hospital try to always support the following ideals:

  1. To provide medical assistance to anyone and everyone who enters.
  2. To cure the infected.
  3. To keep its doors open to lower level survivors, if possible.

It is asked that survivors please note whether or not there is a portable generator within the hospital, and whether it has fuel or not. As a working portable generator is required for the Surgery skill it is asked the survivors provide support by replacing either the generator when destroyed or refilling its fuel supply when its exhausted. This in turn will allow the medical staff to provide more efficient aid to the injured.

Barricade Policy

This building must never be more than Very Strongly Barricaded (VSB+2). This barricade level has been set forth in the Dulston Optimal Defense Diagram, a strategic barricade policy that is enforced by all member groups of the Dulston Alliance. As a hospital it is important that every effort be made to keep an "open door" policy (VSB+2 barricades) so that lower-level survivors can find the medical aid they need. Visitors are requested to never barricade beyond Very Strongly unless the building is currently under siege from 5 or more zombies. Note that any survivors associated with the Dulston Alliance have the right to lower the barricades back to Very Strongly if they discover them raised higher without just cause.

As the hospital is also maintained by the Dulston Infection Treatment and Prevention Squad, a member group of the Dulston Alliance, they support this decision as it is in accordance with their own policy to allow survivors without Free Running safety and medical aid.
