Description

Badman Cinema has the distinction of being Malton's first multi-plex. It boasts 5 screens with stadium seating showing first run features. Over the summer it hosts film festivals featuring the works of local talent. Voted "Best Theatre" and "Freshest Popcorn" four years in a row in the Malton Tribune, Badman Cinema is always a fan favorite.

History

In the 70's, the lot had a large statue of a cowboy similar to the one in Las Vegas waving in customers. After fire damage from multiple lightning strikes in 1977 the Cowboy was removed and auctioned off for charity. The whole theatre underwent renovation and changed from the Western Motif to a glossy high tech Art Deco revival.

The smallest theatre in the cinema showed black and white cowboy movies on Sunday nights with all proceeds going to the local churches. These family nights drew quite the crowd and were always fun for all who attended.

Badman Cinema is a rarity in Malton since it is one of the few businesses that has never changed hands during its' life. It was the flagship in the Mandrake family of 10 theatres all across Malton.
