Originally a high class residential address now it is mainly occupied by commercial premises.

History

Previously known as Baker Street, Baker Place was renamed in 1977 to avoid confusion with the street of the same name in the nearby township of London. The residents of Dartside rejoiced at being no longer shackled by name to such an undesirable localé. However the following year the successful single Baker Street was released causing tourists to flock to Baker Street in London, mistakingly believing the song was written in reference to that street rather than the popular enclave in Dartside. Millions of dollars were spent trying to lure tourists back to Dartside however a bizarre law stating that a street could only be renamed once per 100 years meant that tourists still avoided the area forcing the Mayor of Dartside to raise taxes and reduce public spending which, as was common across Malton, lead to mass rioting.
