Description

The Blobole offers superb rock climbing.

Blobole Park features an ice-cold lake surrounded by woods and several massive granite formations, which take up most of its land area.

History

Blobole Park, known locally as 'The Blob', is named after the Blobole tribe which originally occupied the land.

Correctly pronounced Blo-BOH-lay, the tribe's name is now all that remains of them. Having been restricted to a reservation which corresponded to the area of today's park, they were wiped out in the 1850s by unscrupulous fur traders who trapped and slaughtered them before selling the skins to Maltonites in the form of stylish tribal moccasins, jackets and wallets.

Lake Blobole was considered sacred by the tribespeople, who used its icy waters for self-purification in their seasonal rites of worship. To this day, bathing is prohibited to non-Blobole (ie everyone), not least because

1) the water is too damn cold and

2) it is rumoured to be home to the twin flesh-eating spirit lords of the Blobole, known as Roh-Taa and Z'Umm-Ba'a.

However, the towering rocks offer fine views across eastern Malton, including the herds of Mrh Cows grazing happily at the Dinovan Monument in Vinetown.
