Carpark 88,58

Description

The Pegton Wall is now a Malton Heritage Site

An ordinary suburban carpark, with an extraordinary piece of history attached: the longest surviving section of the infamous Pegton Wall, which ran directly northwest from here, dividing Pegton's 'haves' and 'have-nots' into sou'westerners and nor'easterners.

History

The carpark stands on what was once a thriving community.

This symbol of Pegton's troubled past has been preserved, firstly as a reminder of history's bleak lessons of man's inhumanity to man, and secondly because the arrival of zombie hordes has made it rather difficult for trophy-hunters to chip away any more bits of the wall without being taught a bleak lesson about zombies' inhumanity to man.

The area was once a lively quarter of artists, musicians and radicals, before the oppressive Pegtonian council of the 1950s declared that the suburb would henceforth be divided in order to protect the privileges of the southwest from its poorer neighbours. In 1961, the hippie commune was bulldozed and overnight the first stretch of the Pegton Wall was built, starting from this point and snaking rapidly north-westwards to split the entire suburb.

The Wall stood for 30 years, dividing husbands from wives, brothers from sisters, and rich from poor, until the Reunification of 91.
