The Stack, DNA Checking, And Syringes

Hey all. Morth Babid from the YRC here. We're considering some changes to our main page to update the page with the recent DNA Extractor and Brain Rot changes, but we could use some help making sure our info is actually correct. Here's what we need to clarify: The current assumption is that using the DNA Extractor on a crowd of zombies will tell you if the first zombie on the stack is a rotter or not, even if you don't get their full info and XP bonus. If they are Rotted, they will also be the first zombie you can attack and thus remove from the group. Is this true? We're not sure if your attack/syringe, after doing an extraction, will move down the stack...possibly making you attack an un-Rotted zombie in the horde or wasting your syringe on a brain rotter who was second on the stack. I don't believe this has been addressed before. I'm surprised that the mechanics of the stack haven't been listed in this area. --MorthBabid 00:05, 28 April 2006 (BST)

It would be nice to see some real technical discussion about the software behind the game. Single server? Clustered servers? One web server connecting to a different server running SQL? What kind of SQL? As a programmer, I'd be interested in knowing how Kevan made the performance improvements, etc. Code optimization fascinates me.

  • Yeah it would be nice, mabey we could have a discussion here on the theorys on what it is and why until Kevan comes along and tells us differently. My hunch is that is is a single server maily because I've heard that it's a pain in the bum to code a cluster server (I've been told by my friend). Also apparently you can have over 300,000 (As of 12:00, 30/11/05 there are 288001 characters, and only 52317 are active) connections to a machine... however it's posiable for it to be a cluster server because it decreases specific server hits and also it would lessen the load on a specific machine. It's probable that if this is the case that there would be 5 servers (or at least in my mind), 1 for each quadrant of Malton and 1 for a backup database just for security measures. Hopefully Kevan will lend some of his time to enlighten us. - Jedaz 12:55, 30 Nov 2005 (GMT)
  • I had a look through the news articles and it appears that it is a single server as Kevan uses the phrase "server" and not servers. - Jedaz 12:41, 27 Dec 2005 (GMT)

I'd be pretty darn interested to know what hardware the game and the wiki are running on. My bet is a cheap, single server with a dedicated, fat pipe and a heap of drives in RAID. I can't see the need for anything more complicated than that. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 21:37, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

The game and Wiki each have their own server, but that's all I know. You know, beyond that LUE kept causing problems with the game server when they were ast 300+--Karekmaps?! 02:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Extra Spacing

It appears someone put some data into this page, I'm not sure if it was usefull or not (probably not) but I did remove about 50 blank lines to clean up the page - Jedaz 07:41, 12 Dec 2005 (GMT)
