I have no idea where to put this, and anyhow I thought perhaps we could customize our page tags to be a little more flavorlicious. Here's a mockup of what one might look like. This one is a bastard child of HTML and wiki since I'm bad at wiki editing. /Discuss --Zaruthustra 03:38, 22 Nov 2005 (GMT)

Some standardization

Hmm, not the most active talk page, judging by the above message...

Anyway, after having a hard look at current userboxes, I came to conclusion that we could use some sort of standards for userboxes. At least for the smallbox/flagbox sized ones. Currently about half of the boxes are left aligned and the other half center aligned, with few odd ones using right-side alignment. Some are also using some weird margins and some are just a bit different in size.

I was thinking of changing all the somewhat generic templates to use left-aligning, and fixing the templates so that widths would match, when appropriate. This way anyone could easily place them their userpage, exacly as they want, using tables for alignment. I wouldn't touch group or user specific boxes.

Anyone has any thoughs on this? --Brizth mod T W! 01:00, 3 May 2006 (BST)

I would like to see some standardization here. I agree that alignment should probably be left up to the user rather than specified in the template. I also believe that using smallbox and flagbox as a base should be encouraged more to avoid having a stack of disproportionate userboxes. --Lint 02:42, 3 May 2006 (BST)
I think every template should look like the one above and use ugly blockquote HTML, that thing is hawt. No? Ok. Left align, 240px standard width. --Zaruthustra-Mod 03:00, 3 May 2006 (BST)
Yeah, I think that sounds good. I would also say we should standardize the size of regular square-ish images at 60px, leaving the remainder at 180px. Special cases, like the nationality flags, Scorched Earth Policy, and revive ones should remain the same.

Its hard to standardize image size or template height since resolution and ratios change from pic to pic. --Zaruthustra-Mod 03:26, 3 May 2006 (BST)

Ok, I started working on it. You can see preliminary results on User:Brizth/Templates. Apparently some difference between Firefox and IE caused some size problems. I'm not sure were the original authors going for userbox or larger template. Hopefully for userbox. --Brizth mod T W! 11:47, 3 May 2006 (BST)

Ok, yea. I don't know if this was you, but yea. That didn't exactly make my templates look better. --Zaruthustra-Mod 20:23, 3 May 2006 (BST)
Now that's because you are one of the few who has userboxes next to each other, not on top of each other. The heights are bound to differ between different templates (except Flagboxes and smallboxes). The small width differences are fixable, and I intend to do just that. --Brizth mod T W! 21:28, 3 May 2006 (BST)
O_o Well, I guess it looks like all the templates that didn't have the width specified in the table and instead relied on the width of the image and table cell got smooshed. I'll attempt to modify smallbox to reflect this and see if that fixes things. Also, could we increase the standard width to 250px as that is what is specified in flagbox? --Lint 20:36, 3 May 2006 (BST) Edit: Well, the smallbox width change stopped the shrinking templates, but also broke Zaru's table formatting so I've reverted it. --Lint 20:46, 3 May 2006 (BST)
Hmm. Flagbox was originally 240. It was changed just today by Wyndallin. But we might as well change everything to 250px. It also seems that IE needs width for the whole table, while for Firefox combined picture+text widths are enough. Or at least I think so. --Brizth mod T W! 21:28, 3 May 2006 (BST)
AAAH! I'm so sorry, it never occured to me to look here for discussion! I'll do so from now on. I'm so sorry! :( -Wyn (talk!) 01:58, 4 May 2006 (BST)

Nice work, they look great now. --Lint 23:23, 3 May 2006 (BST)

Thanks. Hopefully I managed to get all of them. I also removed all extra lines from templates. User:Brizth/Templates looks nice now :D --Brizth mod T W! 23:47, 3 May 2006 (BST)

Templates under consideration

I have recently discovered that making templates is a wonderful thing to do while procrastinating on homework. I have a few ideas perking at the moment, feel free to tell me if you think they should/shouldn't be added. Any ideas on images would be great too.

  1. A "plastic tree" template that links to Barricades
  2. A "mall rat" template that links to The Mall Defense Manifesto
  3. A template for each of the major three zombie language systems (in the language of course!) that links to the translator for it (maybe morse code too) - No idea on pictures Found here, here, and here (Morse too!
  4. A zombie banana template that doesn't go too far, but links to The Zombie Lexicon Found here.
  5. A template for users that are participating in the Outbreak Lexicon - No picture idea Found here.

Leave feedback.

For the Outbreak Lexicon, make it a really horrible, cheesy CSI publicity shot where the cast is posing, facing the camera. Preferrably the original series as it's the only CSI worth watching. -Wyn (talk!) 05:01, 4 May 2006 (BST)
Done! Check it out here. What do you think of the picture? It's kinda small.
Darth Sensitive talk | W! 23:36, 4 May 2006 (BST)
That's disgustingly great. -Wyn (talk!) 09:58, 5 May 2006 (BST)
Finished the banana one.

Finished the language ones

Can we have an Invader Zim template? How about a J t H M one? There are so many great tv shows/movies/comic books out there . . .

Hey, I'm looking through the wiki and all... and wondering; Is there a template list? Templates can be used from pretty much anyone, and they can greatly add to a page. So what i'm saying is making a list, in alphabetical order, of all templates would be great. However I don't know how to do this, or if it's possible, so I'll leave it to you.

I must be blind or something... God I feel stupid right now... (found it, on THIS page's article...)

Templates or not?

There are multiple pages listed in the Templates cathegory that are not Templates themselves. In several cases it was clear that the authors just copy-pasted a template along with its cathegory tag, so I went and fixed the clear-cut cases, but some, like BOW Zombie Map are quite unclear.--The Fifth Horseman 10:43, 20 June 2006 (BST)

Copyviol template

Given some of the recent events, a Copyright Violation template seems to be needed. --The Fifth Horseman 10:46, 20 June 2006 (BST)

Purpose

What is the purpose of this page? What does it do that Special:Allpages (Template) does not? Xiong 10:26, 13 May 2008 (BST)

Allows sorting of templates into different subgroups.--Karekmaps?! 23:48, 13 May 2008 (BST)

I see. There are some subcats. I was misled by the vast number of templates in the main cat. Xiong 07:16, 18 May 2008 (BST)
