Description

Downe Towers, a narrow concrete building covered in abandoned scaffolding.

Downe Towers is, as the name suggests, a set of twin skyscraper towers located in the very center of the suburb of Dulston. While considered an unassuming, albeit very tall, building my most modern suburb denizens, in truth it was once home to a multitude of high-stake brokers and stock traders dealing in Dulston's lucrative textile industry. Of course, few could tell just by looking at the tall building that millions of dollars flowed through its business transactions on a weekly basis. While not as profitable as other financial districts in Malton, the Dulston Corporate Exchange did make a tidy profit for its investors.

Downe Towers, once the hub of Dulston's financial district, the skyscraper now hosts a different kind of "power player" these days.

While millions of dollars changed hands, for the most part it was business as usual from day to day. That is, except for on one occasion: a mere week prior to the "Malton Incident" which left Malton quarantined, an unaccountable flurry of trading activity took place. Apparently, stock in toy companies manufacturing Rubix Cubes, of all things, had plummeted because several entire shipments of the mind-bending puzzles had vanished during transport when the freight trucks transporting them were hijacked. While the police were called in to investigate due to the serious nature of the crime and the apparent coordination involved, it did little to stave off the stocks' dropping values. The Rubix Cubes had all simply vanished, whisked off to God knows where. To this day no one knows for certain who was behind the mass theft or why they did it, but there are those survivors who have explored enough of Dulston to learn where the ill-gotten gains may very well have ended up.

Post-Outbreak History

During the months following the "Malton Incident", the Downe Towers earned some degree of fame once more. In February 2006, it became the base of operations for the illustrious Dead vs Blue survivor group who planned to use the towers as their own personal headquarters within the suburb.

Notable zombie groups to overtake the building include the Shamblin' Crooners (in June 2006 and January 2007), Ridleybank Resistance Front (in June 2006) and Militant Order of Barhah (in August 2008). It was temporarily renamed Qusay Towers by DORIS in late 2006. PANTHER took over the building in February 2009 and again in March 2010, and the Legends of Darkness claimed it in September 2009. It was passed back and forth between zombies and survivors from mid-2010, but ceased to be used as an organizational center about that time.

Noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher, reported hearing loud noises coming from inside the building late one night pre-2008, that he described could only have been from a Halo, or maybe even Halo 2, death match of epic proportions. What secret, and possibly l337, skills are being learned within that building? Only time will tell.

Mandate

Downe Towers is managed by the Dead vs Blue, and thus its mandate reflects the goals and aspirations of that organization. Being a survivor-friendly group, zombie hunters from Dead vs Blue prefer to deal with zombies in the only language they understand, the language of "extreme violence" along with a little bit of profanity.

Affiliates

It is believed that all survivor-friendly groups are commonly considered allies of Dead vs Blue. In light of this, all member groups of the Dulston Alliance are considered allies. As a majority of the survivor groups within Dulston have joined this alliance survivors from these groups are considered "friendlies" in the building's overall defense.

Barricade Policy

This building should never be more than Very Strongly (VS+2) barricaded. This barricade level has been set forth in the Dulston Optimal Defense Diagram, a strategic barricade policy that is enforced by all member groups of the Dulston Alliance. Downe Towers' purpose is to serve as an access point for all survivors and a safehouse for inexperienced survivors who do not possess the Free Running skill. Visitors are requested to never barricade beyond Very Strongly unless the building is currently under siege from 5 or more zombies. Note that any survivors associated with the Dulston Alliance have the right to lower the barricades back to Very Strongly if they discover them raised higher without just cause.

As this building is the headquarters of Dead vs Blue they have say in the current barricade level, but at the same time they are also a member group of the Dulston Alliance and therefore usually defer to the building's aforementioned barricade level.

December 14th, 2008 - Dead vs Blue reported that there was 2 full days on continuous Halo multiplayer gameplay. Which implies that the Downe Towers are still in survivor hands.

December 13th, 2008 - Dead vs Blue reported that the Downe Towers were back in operational order... or as operational as you can get with this type of building. Survivors are welcome.

September 26th, 2008 - FOXHOUND recon reported that the Downe Towers could now be considered the "Up" Towers. The building was back in the hand of survivors.

September 2nd, 2008 - Dead vs Blue recon reported that the towers were once again in survivor hands. At the this location is to be considered a "barricaded tactical position" in the fight to reclaim the suburb from the zombie menace. Not to mention Dead vs Blue's HQ.

August 30th, 2008 - Dead vs Blue recon reported that a surprise attack by the horde overwhelmed their defenses. In short order the building was overrun by zombies and ruined.

August 29th, 2008 - Dead vs Blue reported that the building has been secured and cleared of zombies. Having recaptured their HQ the Dead vs Blue team plans to use it as a launch point for attacks against zombie insurgents located at Anne General Hospital in an effort to reclaim suburb resources lost in prior battles with the horde.

August 28th, 2008 - D.I.T.P.S recon reported that Downe Towers was in ruins, yet another casualty in the war against the Militant Order of Barhah and their invasion forces.

Update: Officer Murphy of Dead vs Blue reported that there were only 2 zombies left inside the towers, and one of those zombies was critically injured (5 HP).

February 26th, 2007 - Outside the building several posters advertising recruitment into the Dulston Alliance have recently appeared having been taped, stapled, and/or nailed to various surfaces. Should survivors ever find these posters torn down they can instead view it here.

January 15th-20th, 2007 - After their initial warm welcome and success here several months ago the Shamblin' Crooners made a return performance to satisfy all their fans who still hungered for more Z!ng, Z!ng.

December 8th, 2006 - Once again, Dead vs Blue has moved back into their old haunting grounds, and sounds of epic pitched battle over who gets player 1 on the Xbox360 can be heard coming from within. Also emanating from the building is the distinctive yell of "Motherfucker!", uttered by the famous Jeskid. Apparently copious amounts of drinking, Halo 2 and Dead Rising playing is also going on within the sealed doors of the towers. There have even been a zombie or two who tried to take down the 'cades presumably because they wanted in on the party too, but due to Dead vs Blue's "No Zombie Policy", they were promptly rejected by the big dude in the lobby.

November 15th, 2006 - Members of DORIS persist in their claims of controlling all Dulston. Taking a page straight from Conquerors 101 DORIS has instigated a policy whereby local buildings and streets throughout the suburb have been renamed by their group, in this case, the tower is now known as the Qusay Towers as far as DORIS is concerned.

June 29th, 2006 - The Ridleybank Resistance Front zombies managed to break into Downe Towers, but by that point the building had already been evacuated of all Dead vs Blue personnel. At the time of the assault only one survivor, Dr Demento from FOXHOUND, was still in the building. No further information was reported, but many believe that Dr Demento did not survive the encounter.

June 7th, 2006 - The Shamblin' Crooners made their usual grand entrance and entertained everyone inside with their famous "break-in & concert" style of zombie rock. Some humans were eaten. Some zombies were shot. Bottom line, everyone had fun. Rock on Crooners, rock on...

April 19th, 2006 - Downe Towers has been subjected to zombie break-ins on a nightly basis for the past several weeks. Dead vs Blue advises all survivors to sleep elsewhere due to the high likelihood of continuing zed attacks. DvB has not abandoned Downe Towers, but is taking some time to regroup and come up with a better plan for its continued defense.

March 11th, 2006 - Dead vs Blue members have reported that defenses are strong with survivors holding up well inside the building. They also report that all is calm within its walls. Non-members, however have reported airborne beer bottles and Xbox controllers in the area. Any wandering travelers are warned to mind their head during this phenomenon.

February 28th, 2006 - Dead vs Blue has begun operations within Dulston and have claimed Downe Towers as their new headquarters from which they plan to oversee the defense of the entire suburb.
