"In Mozambique we say there are three wars: the war against FRELIMO, the war between the army and the secret police, and the war between the army and the secret police, and the central government."

A Portuguese journalist

What is FRELIMO?

FRELIMO stands for the Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (in English, Mozambique Liberation Front). It was founded in 1962 to fight for the independence of the Portuguese Overseas Province of Mozambique.

FRELIMO was founded in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 25 June 1962, when three regionally based nationalist organizations – the Mozambican African National Union (MANU), National Democratic Union of Mozambique (UDENAMO), and the National African Union of Independent Mozambique (UNAMI) merged into one broad based guerrilla movement. Under the leadership of Eduardo Mondlane, elected president of the newly formed Mozambican Liberation Front, FRELIMO settled its headquarters in 1963 in Dar-es-Salaam. The Rev. Uria Simango was its first vice-president.

Who was Eduardo Mondlane?

The fourth of 16 sons of a tribal chieftain of the Bantu-speaking Tsonga tribe, Mondlane was born in Portuguese East Africa in 1920. After graduation, Eduardo Mondlane became a United Nations official. One of António de Oliveira Salazar's most important advisers, Adriano Moreira, a political science professor who had been appointed to the post of Portugal's Minister of the Overseas (Ministro do Ultramar), met Mondlane at the United Nations when both were working there and, recognizing his qualities, tried to bring him to the Portuguese side by offering to him a post in Portuguese Mozambique's administration. However, Mondlane showed little interest in the offer and latter joined the Mozambican pro-independence movements in Tanzania, who lacked a credible leader.[1] In 1962 Mondlane was elected president of the newly formed Mozambican Liberation Front.

On 3 February 1969, Eduardo Mondlane was killed by explosives smuggled into his locale. Many sources state that, in an attempt to rectify the situation in Mozambique, the Portuguese secret police assassinated Mondlane by sending a parcel to his office in Dar Es Salaam. Inside the parcel was a book containing an explosive device, which detonated upon opening. Other sources state that Eduardo was killed when an explosive device detonated underneath his chair at the FRELIMO headquarters, and that the faction responsible was never identified.

Leadership

After Mondlane's assassination, Uria Simango took over the leadership, but his presidency was disputed. In April 1969, leadership was assumed by a triumvirate comprising Samora Machel, Marcelino dos Santos and Uria Simango.

Stances

FRELIMO stands for freedom from tyrannical rule by foreign outsiders. Therefore we list the PIDE among our enemies, as they are allies of the Portuguese government.

After we drive out the interlopers, FRELIMO will work towards the redistribution of wealth and ammo. Zombies, for so long treated as second-class citizens in their own homeland, will be allocated shares and places on the communes with the rest. They may not need food, they may not drink water and they may not wield guns, but by god they have a right to it just like anyone else.

Current Operations

Operation Alexander's Sword

A major offensive has been launched by the Portuguese army against us, led by General Kaúlza de Arriaga. His Gordian Knot Operation (Portuguese: Operação Nó Górdio) has targeted our permanent insurgent camps and the infiltration routes across the Tanzanian border in the north of Mozambique. The operation has involved some 35,000 Portuguese troops.

Our counter-offensive has been named Alexander's Sword, after the legendary cutting of the Gordian Knot. It is our plan to establish "liberated zones" in northern Mozambique which will be free of Portuguese control; we will clear out the usurping foreign government and then defend our land from their approach.

Mission Successful

The Northeastern corner of Ackland Mall housed our main liberated zone, which we held against the Portuguese for a surprisingly long time, despite our small numbers. Skirmishes with the PIDE will continue in the area as we complete our final objectives and attempt to hinder the Portuguese as much as possible.

The Gauntlet

In order to become a member of FRELIMO, one must pass The Gauntlet. This consists of three tasks:

  1. The applicant must spend three days alive in Ridleybank. They may not leave the suburb boundaries at any time, or they will be disqualified. If they are killed, they are disqualified.
  2. The applicant must infiltrate the ranks of Red Rum, one of the largest and most tyrannical PKer groups in Malton. The PKer leadership must not suspect who the applicant really is. Only after the applicant has gotten access to their protected forums will they have passed the second task.
  3. The applicant must kill twenty of the PIDE's bounty hunters, the dreaded Secret Police. When the applicant has brought the ID numbers and screenshots of twenty unique Marshal kills, they will have passed the final task.

This Gauntlet is a requirement to become a member of FRELIMO. There are no exceptions, except for those who were grandfathered in because they were FRELIMO members before the Gauntlet was established.
