Description

Feaver Walk is a short lane between the Acott Arms and the Waugh Arms. It connects to Vyse Row on the east and passes behind the Ross Avenue School. It is not accessible to vehicular traffic.

History

Evidence exists for human settlements of the area dating before Roman colonization; however, this stretch of road first appears in historical records in 1666. Local church records indicate that all households along the "Feaver'd Walk" were completely depopulated by plague, and subsequently dug out as a plague pit.

By the early 1700s, the site was inhabited again by several families, but was again an epicenter of disease during the consumption epidemic of 1731. The remaining families fled during the cholera epidemic of 1813, which modern historians believe can be traced back to a well located near Feaver Walk (but not near the plague pit).

In modern times, Feaver Walk was the site of the only confirmed case of SARS in Malton.
