Garland Library

The folklore section, circa 2003.

Description

Located in the central north part of Owsleybank, this is one of the smallest libraries in Malton. Built in dark red bricks with a wooden roof, it is surprisingly tidy and opulent, despite years of abandonment.

History

The Garland Library was founded in 1973 by Evaneline Thompson, a local inhabitant and amateur historian who valued traditions and customs highly, and had come to believe that in the modern world they were fading away.

The library was named after the traditional garlands hung in the area during Christmas and Easter. Initially it contained mostly literature about the traditions of England, but over the years it expanded heavily. By 2005, there were books about folklore, history and archaeology from all over the world.

After the Malton Incident, the collection naturally stopped expanding. It has not seemed to decrease either though, as nobody ever bothers looting a library.

Barricade Policy

In accordance with the Owsleybank Barricade Plan, the building is to be held at Extremely Heavily Barricaded.
