Suggestion:

Item combination - Combining trivial items that don't have much effect, if any, into a really useful item. This emulates from Resident Evil. For simplicity's sake, we should have only two-item combinations. Requires "Engineering" skill, which would then be one of the most valuable skills yet.

Assuming that:

  • These items will not do anything alone:
    • Matches (junkyards, auto shops, malls)
    • Battery (malls, auto shops)
    • Mobile Phone (already exists)
    • Rifle Scope (armories, small number in malls...make it rare)
    • Gasoline/Fuel (already exists)
  • These items don't do much:
    • Bandages will heal a small amount of HP (maybe 3)
    • Disinfectant heals infections
  • These resulting items exist:
    • Torch/Flashlight (I have a suggestion for that Here)
    • Scoped Pistol (same damage, maybe a 5-10% increase in accuracy)
    • Combat Shotgun
    • GPS Phone (tells the receiver exactly where you are)
  • These weapons exist, and are only used ONCE. Attack strength left for public discretion. (Suggested strength in parentheses)
    • Molotov Cocktails (20%, 8 dmg)
    • Flamethrowers (30%, 6 dmg)
    • Pipebombs (20%, 15 dmg)

COMMENT: Pipebombs are supposed to take a considerable number of steps to make, so the damage should be higher for the effort.

Examples:

  • Gasoline + Matches = Molotov Cocktail
  • Disinfectant + Matches = Molotov Cocktail
  • Wine + Matches = Molotov Cocktail
  • Length of Pipe + Molotov Cocktail = Pipebomb
  • Flare Gun + Molotov Cocktail = Pipebomb
  • Spray Can + Matches = Flamethrower OR MAYBE Torch
  • Spray Can + Torch = Pipebomb
  • Bandages + Disinfectant = First aid kit (heals infections and more HP)
  • Pistol + Rifle Scope = Scoped pistol
  • Book/Newspaper + Matches = Torch
  • 2 Kitchen Knives = Wirecutters
  • 2 Shotguns + Fireaxe (or some other tool) = Combat Shotgun
  • Battery + Mobile Phone = Mobile Phone (Working)
  • GPS Unit + Mobile Phone = GPS Phone

Vague/Unsure/Dubious examples:

These are some very dubious examples and why they are so. I place them here for future consideration and change. Some are here just for humor.

  • Length of Pipe + Pistol Clip = Pipebomb (maybe that's too easy)
  • Battery + Matches = Pipebomb (ditto)
  • Crucifix + Matches = Torch (Maybe count that out...might have religous issues with some people)
  • Fireaxe + Length of Pipe = Crowbar
  • Length of Pipe + Shotgun Shell = Homemade Gun (I don't think an ordinary metal pipe would stand shotgun fire)
  • (JOKE)Flare Gun + Pipebomb = Rocket (Yeah...right.)
  • (JOKE) 2 Fireaxes = Throwing Axe (Crap)
  • 2 Pistol Clips = Large Pistol Clip (12 shots...pointless?)
  • Necrotech Syringe + First Aid Kit = Resurrect and Heal (pointless?)
  • Length of Pipe/Baseball Bat + Kitchen Knife = Pick (pointless?)

Feel free to drop a comment or two at the bottom of the page. Use a list format. Fixen, 18:53, 12 Nov 2005 (GMT).

  • Flak Jacket + Gasoline/Disinfectant + Flare Gun/Matches = Flaming Flak Jacket Cannon - perhaps a 10% chance of 25 damage? I don't really care, I just want a useful combination that includes a Flak Jacket so I can use up my extras. -- Scyld, 22:59, 12 Nov 2005
  • Pipe + Flare Gun = Bazooka
  • Rocket + Bazooka = Loaded Bazooka - 30 dmg, 15% chance to hit, possible area-of effect damage (50% chance to hit, 5 dmg) from shrapnel? (both Bazooka ideas courtesy of: John Taggart 16:01, 16 Nov 2005 (GMT))
  • Length of Pipe + 2 Pistol Clips/ 1 Shotgun Shell + 2 Cans of Fuel = Pipe Bomb <--- This is hard to make, therefore balanced. Does 15 Dmg, 30% accuracy, and this may need a skill. What do you think? --Carfan7 06:52, 19 Nov 2005 (GMT)
  • Shotgun + Knife = Shotgun w/ bayonet? That is, you can do a melee attack with your shotgun, especially if you're out of ammo. (Also I don't think 'Large Pistol Clip' or 'Resurrect and Heal' above are pointless. It takes up less inventory space (a la RE), yes?) --Donggrip 10:50, 19 Nov 2005 (GMT)
  • Interesting Fact: A hunting buckshot shotgun shell lodged in a metal pipe can become a very violent weapon (called a 'bangstick' where I come from). You wedge the shell in the bottom of the pipe and drop it off a tall area. The force on the detonation pad thingie (forgot name) on the bottom of the shell causes it to go off, spraying buckshot and bits of pipe everywhere. It also makes a hell of a loud sound. My uncle did it to scare birds away from the fields. Not pertinent to your suggestion, but it brought back memories for me. -- Andrew McM 21:15, 13 Dec 2005 (GMT)
