Joachim Mall is a four-block shopping mall located in the suburbs of Penny Heights (northern half) and Fryerbank.
The oldest mall in the city, Joachim Mall was opened in February 1973 as the final conclusion of an idea stretching back into the mid 60s. From 1951 to 1964, the lots now occupied by Joachim Mall were occupied by a large open-air marketplace that featured strange and exotic wares from outside the country. Foreign films, rare fruits, and strange cuisine were all staples of the market.
In mid-1964, a few of the market vendors got the idea to combine their businesses into larger-scale operations; the first recorded example was a book salesman setting up with a tea merchant. Slowly the idea caught on, and the market packed closer and closer together, allowing for more and more stalls (and local businesses) to come in and join the madness. Stalls became more and more elaborate and permanent, changing from canvas-and-pole rigs that could be rolled up and carted off, to wooden shacks that could be shuttered up and locked, to some concrete block structures with extended roofs, multiple rooms, and staffs of up to ten people.
By December 1971, the lots resembled a city more than a market- multiple stories, industries on-the-spot, and tons of money. But on New Years Eve, a massive blizzard struck Malton, and the weight of the snow collapsed several segments of the market inwards, killing three people and wounding ten.
The city council took action. Though the market brought in far too much money to the Penny Heights and Fryerbank areas to close down, in its current state it was far too dangerous to maintain. The council hired architect Fred Douglas and his company, Ideal Solutions, to design a new marketplace for the shop owners.
Douglas had the lots razed and began construction on the biggest structure the area had ever seen- it towered over the surrounding streets as a mass of metal and concrete. It took the entire year of 1972 to complete, but on February 25th, 1973, Douglas proudly cut the ribbon and opened the doors of Joachim Mall, named after one of the victims of the collapse.
The mall is a sight to behold both in and out. Over the masses of metal and concrete on the outside is placed a brilliant exterior of shining white stone, and multiple minaret-like spires adorn the roof, giving the mall a look like a castle from a fairy tale. But if the outside resembles a castle, the interior resembles an Arabian palace. Painted in light blue and tan, with mosaic tile murals decorating the main atrium, the structure is by and large open space, with shops lining the edges and the four internal segments. Except for the parts over the shops, the entire roof is made of glass, giving the mall an airy, exotic feeling- one that was once held by the market which held the same space. Most all of the older malls are based off the Joachim design, though none are exact copies, and none have quite the same feeling of history that pervades the halls of Joachim.

Barricading Policy
All corners of the mall are designated to be Extremely Heavily Barricaded at all times. This is both in accordance with the UBP-Compliant Penny Heights Optimal Defence Plan, as well as standard mall defence practice. Entrance to the mall can usually be gained by those with the Free Running skill through Rumler Way School or, less frequently, the Orome Arms.

A lone Dual Nature survivor was PKed inside the mall. When he arose as a zombie, there were no survivors in the mall. All four corners were barricaded to EHB. The zombie then ruined the mall, turning the whole thing into an enormous piñata. Jenkem (talk) 17:21, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Joachim Mall is under new management. As part of the LUEbensraum Initiative, LUE has taken over the mall and redecorated it with a more pleasing aesthetic, mostly consisting of mold and swarms of flies consuming the dried blood. As part of the new homeland of the LUE horde it will be allowed to settle into a proper state of decay. Generators will not be tolerated in the area unless they are in banks (we like counting money) and cinemas (who doesn't enjoy a good flick?). Barricades of any kind are strictly frowned-upon; visitors are encouraged to respect this new policy (or we'll eat you). Humans are still welcome, of course, as we are fond of take-out dining. --Vito Mortis 20:59, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
