The Macaulay Library is famous worldwide for its massive historical erotica collection, estimated at several million items, ranging from arcane medieval grimoires written on goatskin by monks, to smutty Victorian pamphlets. The finest items are kept in locked stacks in vaults underground, safe from prying eyes and festering zombie hands, which tend to leave hard-to-remove stains on the pages.

It is thought that a number of Maltonites have tried to preserve the collection, albeit piecemeal, by taking documents and secreting them in secure locations elsewhere, e.g. under mattresses, inside brown paper bags, and on the top shelves of mall bookstores which zombies find hard to reach.

Description

The Macaulay Library was popular with local students.

An imposing stone building, formerly home to Macaulay Brown-Mackintosh (1868-1928), a designer and craftsman who was very good with his hands.

History

The Macaulay is a stimulating place to read, if not very private.
