The Malton Danger Updaters originated with an alt of Bob Moncrief's named DangerUpdater. This account was used in late 2015 to survey various parts of the city whose DangerReports had not been updated in a while, including in the southwest, southeast and northeast. However, due to having another alt in the northwest, DangerUpdater was unable to survey that region, so Bob put out a call on the wiki and on NecroConnect for others to assist with updating that area. This led Bob, Evelyn and others to work together to create this group.

Over the following couple of years, MDU developed a series of consistent activities, not just updating DangerReports but marking buildings unknown and quickly updating after big events. Although our routines have changed over time, MDU has become an important part of wiki users' experience in making use of the various DangerMap systems available. MDU also developed tools for all players to use, whether an MDU member or not, to help with keeping the city updated.
