Description
Mitchell Drive features a number of upscale homes in Shore Hills. Primarily built in the downtown district of Shore Hills the homes are typically multi-story townhouses. There are a number of townhouses to rent, but typically the homes are used for one, two, or even up to three families in one building. Small businesses are interspersed in this mostly residential district, but votes have, for the most part, kept out larger businesses from occupying real estate in this area.
On Mitchell Drive, specifically, there is an enforced speed limit of 40 kilometers per hour (about 25 miles per hour), and has a number of speed bumps that are designed to keep people from breaking that limit.
History
Mitchell Drive has always been a part of the downtown area for Shore Hills, dating back to when the town was founded. As the town grew, the town grew around it, but the composition of the buildings (homes vs. businesses) stayed the same. The local voters decided to enact a reduced amount for the speed limit when in the downtown area of Shore Hills, when a young child was struck by some teenagers who were speeding through the area. The roads are closely monitored for speed by an overzealous police department, as there are typically only minor infractions of the law.
The residents of Mitchell Drive hold a pumpkin festival in the fall months in order to usher in the coming fall season. Originally, this was a mixture of enjoyable rides, games, and small shops, but lately the festival has become more commercialized and is used by the booth owners as a way to force people to buy some of their overpriced wares. During this festival, the Cutest Lil' Pumpkin contest is judged, bringing together children from the ages of 5-9 and be judged by a panel of community members, for the illustrious title of Cutest Lil' Pumpkin.
