Basic Info:

  • Malls are an excellent place to find a wide range of items; the only major items that cannot be found here are revivification syringes and fuel cans. As such, Malls are frequently used as safehouses and fortresses by survivors. Zombies often check inside (when they can get in), and organized zombie groups sometimes lay siege to them. They are listed as a Tactical Resource Point.

Mitchem Mall History History

Constructed in 1977, Mitchem Mall was not the success it was meant to be. It simultaneously caused the relocation of a number of successful shops that had resided on the site, and set unit rentals too high so no-one could replace them. Over the years the purpose-built stores were subdivided into smaller units, providing a different feel from most other Malls in Malton. Mitchem was much more like an indoor marketplace, where large chain stores rubbed shoulders with tiny record stores and antiques shops.

Another oddity of Mitchem Mall was that it was the only mall in Malton to stock fuel cans, until Fat Sam's Big Fat One-Stop Fuel Shop caught fire in 2003 and gutted the entire third floor. After this incident, Malton's council passed a by-law prohibiting the sale or stockpiling of fuel in any of Malton's malls, as well as banning smoking in Malton's malls. To this day, survivors curse Fat Sam for not taking better care with his fag-ends, as fuel is the second most important item for survivors that cannot be found in malls - the most important being syringes (intravenous drug use was discouraged by mall security). Cigarettes are impossible to find anywhere.
