Description

History

This exceedingly large Post-Victorian edifice was originally property of a Miskatonic University alumni who decided to open a multi-purpose miniature arcology, an idea quite advanced in 1910. Through "Master Purvis" shrewd investments and seemingly endless supply of capital the project was finished just before WWII, but after the war fell into disuse thanks to reports of hauntings and other unexplainable happenings.

The construction which occupies an entire block was briefly used as a "house of ill repute" for ten to fifteen years before it was deeded to Miskatonic U upon Master Purvis death in a boating mishap off the coast of Cyprus in the late 1960's. New Arkham had just been incorporated and the university had no need for a house of prostitution so they closed it down and in a magnanimous gesture endowed all the former prostitutes with full ride scholarships.

Over five years the campus rebuilt and refurbished the arcology to be a massive general studies library, retaining some of the more salutary features of its old design for the edification of the students. It served well in this capacity until the outbreak and evacuation nearly a decade ago, and since has been kept open as an entrance into the well guarded campus.

The building has been overrun by the dead several times, but is always reclaimed by the university faculty and students.
