Quarlesbank's History

The suburb of Quarlesbank is surrounded in a rich history. During the late 19th Century Pitman mansion was founded within the suburb, however no-one was able to predict how much this structure would change the rest of the suburb forever. Once the owners of the mansion moved in, they immediately set out to reform Quarlesbank's image to a new industrial powerhouse, which would act as a benchmark for the north of Malton to follow. However this idea was met with fierce resistance after the 4 warehouses were found to be dumping harmful waste into Quarlesbank's environment and in River Kevan. This stopped any form of building for over 50 years through the local resident's feelings towards the Pitman family. However, in the early 1960's Lord Pitman was declared rightful heir to the mansion and inherited a huge fortune, which he was going to use to follow his parents dream and turn Quarlesbank into their dream. At this moment in time Pitman was relatively young and hence did not have the experience to understand the complex history which determined what was built in the suburb. His first venture was building a factory in the south of the suburb. Fearing that this would be a repeat of what had happened in the past, Lord Pitman was soon visited by many local residents unwilling to see their homes be polluted like they were before. Sensing a quick defeat, Lord Pitman stated that instead of factories and warehouses he, himself would aid in building structures which would benefit the suburb. Unfortunately due to his parent's past he was restricted from doing any work which involved constructing buildings on empty land blocks, so instead he decided to change his parent's wastelands into paved over areas for further developments.

In November 1966 Lord Pitman's image had reached a state of equilibrium with the local residents, however this was not enough for him to gain permission to build anything. So during a local Mayoral election he visited one of the parties, which suddenly increased its advertising from what can only be described as a 'huge influx of funds from an unknown source'. Eventually this party secured its place as Mayor and then decided to improve Quarlesbank's tarnished public image through a series of new buildings. The first of these was The Elson Building, which was designed by contempory architects, making it one of the most popular buildings in the suburb. This building was lergely disliked by Lord Pitman throughout all of its building and subsequent opening period. Local residents believe this popularity is due to the fact that Lord Pitman resented it and hence, given his past, it was seen as a beacon of the local's triumph in defying the wealthiest landowner in the uppermost north of Malton. A rich history can be found when looking on this building, which involves much of the suburb and Lord Pitman. In the past it has given many locals (and non locals alike) an interesting story about the events which led up to the area's current status and it's intertwined history with Lord Pitman. it is hoped that any visitors of local inhabitant will look upon it then make an informed judgment from that.

Finally during the last few decades before 'The Malton Incident', Calvert Mall was built to act as a centre of tourism for Quarlesbank and the neighboring suburbs. It was one of the last buildings to be made in Quarlesbank and is seen as a place where survivors can socialise freely and work together for a common cause. This idea has subsequently made its way across the suburb throughout this current 'situation', and is currently accepted and practiced by many of the suburb's pro-survivor groups, including the groups which inhabit Pitman Mansion and The Elson Building, making them safe for survivors to inhabit for as long as they see fit. These local groups as well as many of the local people in Quarlesbank have cleaned up the suburb's tarnished image, as was wanted 4 decades ago.

Almost completely barricaded, many lit buildings, zombies in ones and two scattered around the suburb. The mall is lit and occupied. Very few, if any, ruins. -- Grogh 02:54, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

External Military: 25.96 MHz: "... can see about eighty on the streets of Quarlesbank ... mostly just small groups ... can't see any signs of life ... it's a wasteland down there ... Calvert Mall has fallen ..."--Zeug 04:51, 17 October 2008 (BST)

October 10th

Tons zombies on the streets, Breakdown of the Tactical Resource Points:

  • 4 NecroTechs: 0 powered, 4 not. (2 are heavily ransacked, both in the NE section)
  • 2 Police depts, 1 hospital, 1 factory & Calvert Mall (north): ransacked and in zombie control.

Having checked the entire NE zone, having only seen 1 Police dept that is a bit active, atlough the survivors have been dragged out). All the other buildings have been completely ruined and destroyed.

Now checking the South region of the suburb, but still same as in the North. Confirmation needed for the South, if indeed it is also as heavily ransacked then increase to Very Dangeroues could be in order. --General shkkf 13:14, 10 October 2008 (GMT)

Many zombies on the streets, Breakdown of the Tactical Resource Points:

  • 4 NecroTechs: 1 powered, 3 not.
  • 2 Police depts, 1 hospital, 1 factory & Calvert Mall (north): ransacked and in zombie control.

Many ruined buildings near TRP's. Currently at Haslock NT, where almost the entire map has been destroyed, no survivors can be seen and the mall is still in zombie hands. Update to Dangerous could be in order... --General shkkf 17:41, 7 October 2008 (GMT)

October 3rd

At least 26 zombies on the streets, although 9 of those appear to be Mrh? cows. Breakdown of the Tactical Resource Points:

  • 4 NecroTechs: 2 powered, 2 not.
  • 2 Police depts, 1 hospital, 1 factory & Calvert Mall (north): powered.
  • 7 auto repairs: 4 powered, 3 not.

The east of the suburb has many powered buildings. Moderate. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 17:47, 3 October 2008 (BST)

I'm holding up in Quarlesbank for right now, not many zombies in the streets, I saw one a revive point, and three in Pitman Mansion. Small amounts of survivors, including myself that I've seen. Some powered buildings, from what I can see from walk-bys the Elson Building is okay. --MikeC September, 27

September 21st

Approximately 22 standing zombies, outdoors. A breakdown of the suburb's Tactical Resource Points:

  • Northern half of Calvert Mall: not powered. (Neither is the southern half, in Gatcombeton, which has a further 14 zombies outside it.)
  • Police Departments: 2 without power.
  • Hospital: powered.
  • NecroTech buildings: 1 ruined, 2 without power, 1 with power.
  • Factory: powered.
  • Auto repairs: 2 powered, 5 without power.

Given the low level of ruination, and the low number of zombies, I'm changing this suburb's danger level to reflect the reality on the ground, from Dangerous to Moderate. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 20:40, 21 September 2008 (BST)

The saga continues as the Battle for Quarlesbank heats up yet again with a renewed Beerhah invasion reinforcing the struggling Quarlesbank defense forces. Calvert Mall is holding against a growing zombie siege while the northern NT run has been barricaded against constant Extinction attacks the most recent of which reduced the QBH contingent inside Haslock NT by half. Residents are advised to take the usual quarantine measures as the feral zombie population is expected to keep growing, drawn by the increasingly loud groans emanating from the suburb. --Zeug 08:37, 16 September 2008 (BST)

September 13th

Military Report: "... can see about sixty on the streets of Quarlesbank ... mostly just small groups ... several buildings with power ... serious collateral damage ... Calvert Mall is being held ... the Balchin Building has fallen ..." --Zeug 17:40, 13 September 2008 (BST)

September 11th

Quarlesbanks long troubles seem to be easing due to the incredible tenacity of local survivor groups and thier refusal to be beaten by Extinction. Contrary to rumours, most resource buildings are well barricaded and there are few zombies active in the suburb. However, Extinction hit squads remian active and the continued siege has also left survivor numbers low. Reinforcments are needed to continue the expansion and make this suburb the happy well lit and safe suburb it once was--Silent badger 18:38, 12 September 2008 (BST)

September 10th

The Survivor cause continues to suffer setbacks in Quarlesbank as Extinction forces retain the initiative. Shortages of fuel, firearms, medical supplies and Necrotech needles continue to thwart Survivor attempts to take and hold ground. With mounting Survivor casualties in the face of Extinction strikes against the Elson Building and Wilmott Hotel, the future of the Survivor reclamation efforts in the absence of outside reinforcements seems quite grim indeed. Naelok 08:30, 10 September 2008 (BST)

September 8th

Extinction Troops continue to fight the stubborn survivor resistance across the town with a major break in at the recently rebarricaded Haslock NT resulting in a QBH massacre that is ongoing as we speak. The rest of the northern NT run remains ruined although the Elson Building Caretakers and the Shed are retaining a tenuous hold on their HQ's. Reports are also coming in of a major survivor offensive aimed at reclaiming Calvert Mall. --Zeug 06:58, 8 September 2008 (BST)

September 3rd

The slow, labourous rebuild of this great suburb has once again been hit hard by the massing zombie hordes. Many of the recently retaken buildings now lay ruined, with the ever defiant survivor groups that frequent the Willmott Motel once again at the heart of the struggle. Though Quarlesbank is still in a state of perpetual battle, survivors in hiding are urged to make themselves known to the cause.--Biff Chitts 11:37, 3 September 2008 (BST)
