Background

Zamgrh; the language of the undead. What began as the project by befuddled zombies players who wished to make the most of their limited, groaned form of speech has now grown to become one of the most recognized forms of written zombie language. Perform a google search for "zombie language" and you'll see that the Zombie Lexicon is the top result. Indeed, this language has now appeared to have bridged the gap between a humble community project and mainstream media, as seen by the latest viral marketing campaign by Sears. Sporting the zombie themed spin on their corporate catchphrase "afterlife. well spent.", www.sears.com/zombies is at the center of that campaign.

Where, however, is there any mention of the source of the language that was so blatantly used? It appears that the website's creators went to great lengths to study the language. Perhaps they are regular players and the language is second nature to them. Or maybe a paid Sears employee was charged with the task of creating a unique zombie language and took some shortcuts when stumbling across our beloved Zamgrh. Whatever the reason, journalistic attribution is unfortunately scarce.

What can you do about it?

Siege on Sears is an event that aims to gain that attribution with a series of out-of-game activities. Time is short, as its assumed the Sears campaign will only last until the end of October. But with our numbers comes strength and the power to get what we desire: recognition.

Sign The Petition

An ePetition has been created via GoPetitions and we ask that all Urban Dead players who read this to please sign it. This petition will be presented to Sears, Roebuck and Co. in hopes to gain attribution.

While GoPetitions requires your first and last names and your email address for eSignature purposes, your personal information will not be displayed publicly.

Public Protest

Publicly protesting can have a big impact on corporate decisions. It raises awareness to the public (and often to the corporation) and has the power to alter decisions.

If Sears does not offer attribution to the Urban Dead community by October 30th, we will begin protesting publicly. Peaceful public protest will take place in front of Sears department stores on October 30th at which time flyers will be distributed. The flyers will urge patrons to sign the petition. Zombie costumes are encouraged although not required. Picketing is also optional.

You should always know your rights before participating in any type of public protest.

In the UK, thiscan be used as a guide for your rights to public protest. Similar laws pertain to US citizens. Again, please know your rights before protesting.

Tweet about it

Another leg of the Sears marketing campaign is that of a twitter user names zombieshopper. The zombieshopper tweets about his adventures, tells jokes, retweets his followers zombie related messages all while promoting the Sears website. The sears zombie Twitter account is http://twitter.com/zombieshopper. For all the tweeple out there, you can do your part by including @zombieshopper in protest oriented tweets. They will hopefully get the message and bring it to someone's attention. The tweets are actually quite funny (as the site is) so do yourself a favor and read them and get a good laugh. Just be sure to help the Urban Dead community while you're at it.
