Just which location is the true seat of the bishop ordained by Rome is now a matter of some controversy. St. Mark’s of Spicer Hills served in this regard from the inception of the Diocese of Malton in 1896 (as part of the Province of Southwark) up until the outbreak in May, 2005. In the chaotic days following the quarantine, however, Bishop Lawrence Healy disappeared along with—for a time—any reliable mass schedule. Imposers arose from all corners.
The most notorious so far was an Italian immigrant calling himself “Archbishop Guido Sarducci.” Sarducci claimed, inter alia, to have been installed by the Vatican on 16 February 2006. Given the utter transparency of this fraud (no one has been allowed in or out of Malton since May, 2005; Malton is not an archdiocese) and the gravity of the resulting offense against apostolic succession, it is reasonable to conclude that Sarducci is an automatic excommunicate. It has been reliably reported that he is now among the living dead.
St. Mark’s has seen a steady decline since the disappearance of Bishop Healy, culminating in sacrilegious rituals performed there by the notorious Church of the Resurrection. This particular 'heresy' is considerably dangerous in and of itself but not a major theological threat given its total lack of subtlety. It is not really even a heresey, for heresey can only be committed by beings of free thought, rather than blood crazed devil spawn.

History

St. Mark's is named after and follows the gospel of the evangelical saint Mark, noted as author of the gospel book of Mark. He is the patron of barristers, bishops, and the City of Venice. His symbol is the lion.

Although it is commonly said that there are five cathedrals in Malton, this is something of an oversimplification. A cathedral is technically the seat of a bishop and as such there are only two true cathedrals in Malton: one of them, St. Matthew’s in Gibsonton, serves the Anglican communion while another serves the Catholic communion.

Notes
