Description

St. Matthias's Church is a small Catholic church located in the suburb of Pescodside. The church itself has not seen much use as a house of God since the "Malton Incident", when all the church's clergy either fled Malton or were devoured by hungry zombies. As such, the church has only really served as a safe house for those survivors passing through Pescodside.

These days the church is under the guidance of the survivor group known as Dante's Guard, which was considered by some to be one of the suburb's older groups. The group had disappeared under mysterious circumstances only to reappear several months later. Claiming the church as their own domain the group has sworn to provide protection to the injured and inexperienced survivors of Pescodside.

A recently printed flyer found pinned to the church's bulletin board.

Mandate

As a church, St. Matthias's is an ideal shelter for lower level survivors seeking to stay off the streets at night. An unspoken rule is that survivors assist with the barricades should they ever drop below Very Strongly, but over-barricading should only happen when protecting against zombie sieges. Afterwards barricades should be lowered when the danger has passed, so as to keep an open door policy.

Barricade Policy

Barricades are to be kept at Very Strongly (VS+2) during times when zombie numbers are fewer than 5 within a 2x2 block grid. An unspoken rule is that survivors assist with the barricades should they ever drop below Very Strongly. This policy is enforced by Dante's Guard, a survivor group which is using the church as its base of operations.

Should zombie numbers rise or reports of nearby resources buildings being overrun be confirmed, then barricades may be raised to Extremely Heavily. At this time Free Running is essential to entering and departing the church. May God have mercy on those poor souls left trapped outside during such a time of strife. Afterwards barricades should be lowered when the danger has passed, so as to keep an open door policy.

Nightly Prayer of the Survivor

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep;
And if I die before I wake,
I pray Lord my soul to take.

Current Events

Sept. 6th, 2009 - 'cade at VSB all is quite on this block.

April 19th, 2009 - 5 zombies smashed the barricade during the night, the building is now ruined and overrun by zombies

September 16th, 2008 - Hintasur Gastaunt, of the B.A.R., reported, "We've been battling for that area for some time now, and I'm not particularly interested in letting it fall. I've been using St. Matthias's Church as a base of operations. From there I've been able to re-barricade/reclaim the Jewell and Lentell PD.

"I think I've taken down a dozen zombies since I claimed St. Matthias's this week, plus repairs and 'cades."

March 30th, 2008 - The Church once again came under attack, but not by zombies, it was pkers. All members of the Dante's Guard inside the building were killed and dumped, and spraypainted on the wall, a new message, "Dante's Guard: killed by Spoook, Mercenary". Times for this small, but effective group are believed to coming to an END. --Spoook 04:32, 30 March 2008 (BST)

March 25th, 2008 - The Church and it's Dante's Guard were in fact, one of the first targets of the invading zombies. There were few survivors (if any) and the building is in Ruins, along with most of Pescodside. --Spoook 15:10, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

August 19th, 2007 - St Matthias's church lies in ruins. Members of Dante's Guard intend to repair the damage as soon as possible, but it is feared that the carving of Caleb Usher has been destroyed.

July 30th, 2007 - Pescodside is packed full of Zombies. Activity is focussed on the nearby Necrotech Building, although the barricades at St Matthias's have been attacked.

April 3rd, 2007 - Things have simmered down a bit in Pescodside. Zombie numbers have been steadily decreasing with most buildings being barricaded. The Dante's Guard safehouse at St. Matthia's Church has held strong, with a large number of survivors pitching in to help defend the church.

March 1st, 2007 - Disaster strikes! Zombies have managed to breach the church's barricades and have entered inside. Dante's Guard, whose forces are already spread dangerously thin by the Mall Tour '07 attacks during the past few days, warns survivors to temporarily seek shelter elsewhere.

February 23rd, 2007 - Dante's Guard has taken responsibility of the church as a safehouse for new survivors in Pescodside. The group has promised that barricades will never go higher than Very Strongly (VS+2). Assistance will also be given to those who ask for it.

January 30th, 2007 - Caleb Usher, having visited the church was both slightly amused and disturbed to find that some survivors (or survivor) was apparently offering up prayers to him. Not being an egomaniac, Caleb left a note on the altar requesting that survivors not head down the dark path of cultist behavior like those at St. Barbara's Church in Dulston. Better that we concentrate on realistic solutions to the zombie epidemic and leave religious fanaticism out of the equation. Let science be our savior and knowledge guide us to better days. - Caleb Usher

January 11th, 2007 - Inside someone has erected a crudely carved 12-foot tall wooden effigy of noted NecroTech scientist, Caleb Usher and adorned it with gold and flowers. He gazes down into the church pulpits with a kind look of magnificent benevolence, his outstretched hand offering hope to any survivor kneeling down before him.

August 1st, 2006 - The church is currently heavily barricaded, so those wishing to enter its charred walls must have the Free Running ability.
