20070805 Tutorial

Suggestion description
I bet a lot of you were confused when you started playing Urban Dead. Most people have no f***ing idea what to do. I din't even know that the map was larger than 9 squares when I started! My idea is to add a manditory tutorial when any account is created. This will give the n00bz some idea of what's going on when they start playing. This would be a walk-through of important aspects like moving, attacking, and, most importantly SIMPLE TACTICS and explanations of what not to do, and what to to, and how to do it; perferabbly in a short video. This would also make creating zerg accounts that much more annoying.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - as the primary author of First Day in Malton, I support this idea. A lot of folks have no idea what the word "wiki" (or even FAQ) means. Even if they do click the button, they get confronted with a overwhelming amount of information to sort though, and have little clue where to start reading.
I'm not sure the above described implementation is ideal, but some sort of "verbose mode" for the interface that kicks on when you start a new character (and then can be turned off and on again at will) would be a good thing. ΔΔΔ Swiers BigEYEwitnessLOGOgrey.png 17:33, 5 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep The guy above says it all. We could just add a link to the tutorial on the wiki, with no mandatory or anything. BoboTalkClown 23:32, 5 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep As above. Not all of us are that computer literate. --Seventythree 18:44, 5 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep/Change - Tutorial: Yes. Manditory: No. --The Hierophant 22:14, 5 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep I didn't know about the first day in malton and couldnt be bothered looking at the FAQs and everything. If it is mandatory then newbies won't get stuck then being put off from the game.----Timo 1 22:47, 5 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - First Day in Malton? This is the only thing that really needs to be read before you play the game. It's relatively short and concise, and provides some very good information. Don't get me wrong, I am for helping newbs, but if they can't even read the wiki, they are lost --Ryiis 17:15, 5 August 2007 (BST)
Re: Most new playes don't go on the wiki the first day BoboTalkClown 23:33, 5 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - And what about people who make legitimate alts with the intent of playing the game on all available facets and never allow them to come anywhere near each other? When you make an account, it tells you where to sleep and basic stuff like that, and there's First Day in Malton. If you can't get any of that, the zombies will eat you for breakfast/the zombie hunters will shoot you up when you're trying to break open an EHB building alone in a quiet suburb. They'll learn for their mistakes, like all of us did. --Howard Bentley 20:42, 5 August 2007 (BST)

  9. Super Duper - Tutorial V2.0. HOWEVER I think the idea has merit. Some people don't even realize there is a wiki link on the page or how to navigate the wiki. A quickly intro tutorial ala Help The Confused Newbies! wouldn't hurt.--Pesatyel 00:46, 6 August 2007 (BST)
