20070823 Bottles as Weapons

Anotherpongo 19:57, 23 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
New Use for Item

Suggestion scope
Survivors with beer or wine.

Suggestion description
Beer and wine are both pretty useless flavour items. My suggestion would add more flavour and also give them a function.

I suggest that beer bottles and wine bottles become usable as blunt melee weapons with:

  • Base accuracy 15%.
  • 4 damage.

Now, before you start fuming and reaching for the edit button so you can vote "spam", these weapons would have a limitation: they would be one-use. Regardless of whether they hit, they would break and become the "broken bottle" — a melee weapon that would have a base accuracy of 10% and 2 damage. Really just your basic melee weapon.

  • These weapons would not be usable by zombies.
  • These weapons would be affected by Hand to Hand Combat, but no other skills. With Hand-to-Hand Combat, beer and wine bottles would have accuracies of 30% and a broken bottle would have an accuracy of 25%.
  • They would still be drinkable, and would still heal 1HP.
  • Broken Bottles would, obviously, not be drinkable.
  • They would have no effect on barricades (but still break on them).
  • Just to clarify:
    • Bottle of Beer/Bottle of Wine — 15% base, 4 damage, one-use
    • Broken Bottle — 10% base, 2 damage
  • These weapons would be more-or-less worthless once you had a fire axe and were fully skilled in it.
  • The Beer Bottle and Wine Bottle hit percentages and damage (with Hand-to-Hand Combat) would be identical to that of a zombie bite, when the zombie has Vigour Mortis and Neck Lurch. However, they would be one-use and wouldn't provide the benefits/curses (healing, infection) that a fully upgraded zombie bite normally brings (that would be just plain silly).

  5. Keep/Change - Have the same percentage and damage for each - 10% and 2. Perhaps a new item in your inventory after you've finished drinking a bottle of beer or wine - "Empty Beer/Wine Bottle" then can then be used as a weapon (or dropped as normal). It would still be a one-use item as in the main suggestion. --the one, the only, sushiknight (talk contribs HARD E.N.D.) 22:09, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep i like this idea!--'BPTmz 22:19, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Weak keep, changeplz Take off a point or two of damage. Glenstone 22:37, 23 August 2007 (BST)

  9. Keep Great idea! I think the unbroken bottle should'nt be a weapon, but after you drink it, You break it automaticly. --Kaynex 04:10, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep - Nice imagery, neat idea. I wonder though whether broken bottles should be better against survivors and unbroken bottles better against zombies... --Pgunn 06:02, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep - Yup.--  Savant  Chit-Chat  07:21, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep - Though a change wouldn't be bad. Make it 3 instead of 4 damage. BoboTalkClown 16:28, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  13. Keep - I like it the way it is, they're inefficient enough to not be overused, and the way it seems to me is that they'd be desperation weapons or weapons for new survivors. --Howard Bentley 19:56, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  14. Keep - Fun! Good for the new Consumer who's looking for a better temporary weapon. --Vkkhamul 21:13, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  15. Keep - A good idea, possibly a life saver in an emergency. At the moment human players need all the help they can get. - Crystal C-Kids 22:45, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep - Zombies should be able to use it too!--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 06:12, 25 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Change - You should have to break the bottle before using it as a weapon. Stabbing someone with a broken bottle will often do more damage than smashing one over their head. -- Pavluk 20:28, 23 August 2007 (BST)
Strange I should know this, but there you go, smashing someone in the face with an unbroken bottle is just as effecive as a broken bottle. I know of someone who got put into a coma by getting smashed round the head with an unbroken bottle. Also smashing a bottle on the table and using it as a weopon is more likely to result in a trip to A&E so they can sew your hand back on. Stuff like that only happens in films.--Seventythree 20:33, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  2. KILL You are telling me that a bottle does more damage then a fire axe?! Sockem 21:13, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Why NOT let them be useable by zombies? Just maybe not the broken bottle.--Pesatyel 04:13, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - An intact bottle does 4 damage while a broken one does 2? --Midianian 12:11, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - While I agree that a unbroken bottle does more damage than a broken one, change it to 3 and then maybe only have a low % chance of it turning into a broken bottle rather than breaking completely. Every bottle I've ever broken has completely smashed like someone mentioned above about smashing it on a table. I'm pretty sure a hard head wouldn't result in a different effect. --Dipcup 15:24, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - It's a flavor item, it doesn't need a use.--Karekmaps?! 23:01, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Change - Nice idea but 4 HP damage, you've got to be kidding. Spell... B-R-O-K-E-N, as in bottle and game mechanic, both. Make it one AP 1 to bust bottle and 2hp damage (a bottle is worse than a knife) and maybe it last 3 or 4 attacks... Then I'll consider it. --WanYao 02:15, 25 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - 1: 4 damage is too much for any human melee weapon, especially a makeshift one like a bottle. 2: Who needs yet another crappy melee weapon anyway? Except for axe and knife, they are all worthless. If you are in a situation where you are forced to use something other than the axe or knife (like your first couple days of playing), your AP would be better spent searching for an axe or knife, running away, barricading, or FAKing. --Steakfish 03:13, 25 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill/Change - Despite the fact that it would be just another crappy melee weapon, I like the idea of breaking a beer bottle over a zed's head. The problem is a unbroken beer/wine bottle shouldn't do the same damage as a fire axe. Drop the damage it does down to 3 and you'll get my vote. --Sonofagun18 10:22, 25 August 2007 (BST)
