20070823 Ruining destroys graffiti

Grim Rictus 07:02, 23 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Improvement.

Suggestion scope
Zombies with Ransack.

Suggestion description
Yes, yes, I know, it's TOO SOON. For all any of us know, any or all of the ruin improvements we've thought of are already under consideration. But it doesn't hurt to suggest, and this one's real simple, and doesn't have a direct impact on game balance.

Simply put, if a zombie ruins the interior of a building, it should destroy the graffiti sprayed on the inside. Further, a survivor attempting to tag the inside of a ruined building would be warned with something along the lines of: "The interior of the building is too trashed; you can't find any clear space to tag." No AP loss. The last message tagged inside would be uncovered and restored once the building was repaired.

Additionally, instead of completely removing the graffitied message, perhaps the message could be partially obscured, either by substituting random characters with garbage symbols or with flavor text.

Examples:

Somebody has spraypainted Str##t# is###t#hin onto a wall. The writing is obscured by damage to the room.

Somebody has spraypainted Streets is w...(the rest is damaged and illegible) onto a wall.

The reason I propose this is because as a zombie, even in my beautifully redecorated home, I have to see human writing all over my walls. Being able to (temporarily) cover this over would give us a greater sense of ownership and pride.

In-Game Justification, for those that want me to paint a picture:

A ruined building simply has far too much rubble and debris, in addition to the furniture and fixtures being overturned. I imagine the building to be knee-deep with garbage in some places, with piles of it against the walls. Pieces of ceiling are hanging from the rafters obscuring vision across the room and drywall chunks are knocked out, removing portions of text. Maybe there's just too much debris to get close enough to the walls to read what's written.

Maybe a regular old ransacking doesn't cover the walls, but when a zombie RUINS a building, they go all-out.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Yep, author vote. Wouldn't have typed it if I didn't think it was good. Grim Rictus 07:08, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - that last comment sold me.--'BPTmz 07:12, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  3. keep - makes sense --~~~~T''' 07:51, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - I like. --  T   09:18, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - Sounds okay to me. --Sonofagun18 09:58, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - Nice idea. Ruin needs to do something since most survivors have toolboxes now. It's just a more obvious ransack.Studoku 15:16, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep - I like it. But this does remind me I still need to search up some toolkits for my survivor characters grrr... --the one, the only, sushiknight (talk contribs HARD E.N.D.) 16:50, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Weak Keep - Doesn't make sense that people couldn't re-tag the ruins, but I like the idea of a ruin removing any previous graffiti. --Animi 22:27, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep? I think that when the zombie ruins the building, the graffitti should go away, but can be put back at any possible time, even if the building is still destroyed. --Kaynex 04:18, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep - Perhaps a 50% chance of graffiti distruction? And allow re-spraypainting. BoboTalkClown 17:03, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep - It makes sense, and for those of you who say 'just get revived and spray it', remember that most zombie hordes have a lot of members with the rot. Also, what kind of survivor would take the time to spray a message on the wall before moving on to heal or staying to shoot up the denizens of ruined buildings? --Howard Bentley 20:02, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep - Makes sense! Reflow 22:28, 31 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - I think that zombies and humans live in two separate worlds with separate priorities. It's like when you see a baby trying to grab a big dog and the dog acts totally indifferent about him: why should a zombie care about human writing? --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 07:18, 23 August 2007 (BST)
Re: - You forget that zombies DO care what survivors say. For example, some guy wrote Barhah B*****s! ZOmbies would like to kill that. BoboTalkClown 02:10, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - I just don't buy it. --Seventythree 07:41, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Destroying graffitti isn't too bad, but making it impossible? No.--Pesatyel 08:02, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - It makes sense, but within the game dynamic I don't like it. --The Hierophant 08:55, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill/Change - It sounds promising, but the whole graffitti should be affected.--  Savant  Chit-Chat  09:32, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - I already think Ruin is overpowered, so let's focus on downgrading it, hmm?--Cap'n Silly T/W/P/CAussieflag.JPG 09:42, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - Just because there is more furniture strewn around the building doesn't mean you can't read what's written on the wall. --MarieThe Grove on Tour 13:31, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - As above -- Pavluk 14:45, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill --agreed with many above. If you want to get rid of the graffitti, then get a revive and a spraycan and make your own message: like Mah Haam or something. --Ryiis 14:46, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - I don't see how making a huge mess will clean walls. By ruin, I'm thinking of furniture smashed and all over the floor, splinters of wood everywhere, broken glass, etc, rather than walls being entirely knocked down (often impossible, and when not largely irreparable without a complete construction crew or at least several days worth of labour. --Pgunn 17:53, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Blam - As with above, and besides, if there was broken furniture on the floor, what's keeping a survivor from just spraypainting on that?--Private Mark 20:56, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Phail Above. Glenstone 22:31, 23 August 2007 (BST)
  13. Kill Ruining has enough already. Honestly, it has already been updated two days after being implemented. Also, at the time of implementation, zombies were already on a rapid rise. Stop trying to give them more edges over us, we're stressed enough as it is!! >.< Izumi Orimoto 02:00, 25 August 2007 (BST)
Fair... but I've added my justification to the text above. Forbidding new tagging was necessary. Otherwise, my ruined house could have a tagger strafe in, add something new, and how do I get rid of that? Re-ruin? I thought I was being nice by adding that old graffiti would be restored with a repair. And if you don't like the partial obfuscation of text, I don't think it would be outlandish to make a Keep vote with a change requirement. Honestly, that part just popped in my head as I was typing. Grim Rictus 04:30, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  14. Change - Needs improvements, it's a good basic idea but some things need changing, go to the suggestions talk page.--Karekmaps?! 23:14, 24 August 2007 (BST)
  15. Nope - The kind of damage done by zombie's wrecking a building won't destroy grafitti. They're trashing the place, not tearing the walls down. And, I really don't see zambahz being all that concerned with interior decorating. Well not the majority of them anyway, maybe just Jorm... anyway... no more effen' buffs to an already beefcake Ruin ability, okay?? --WanYao 01:55, 25 August 2007 (BST)
  16. Kill Like you said, too soon. But I don't think I like it anyway. --Pdeq 21:06, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  17. Kill for the reasons given by other users.-- Vista  +1  11:30, 4 September 2007 (BST)
  18. Kill Graffiti is thematically appropriate in ruined buildings. --Jon Pyre 16:03, 6 September 2007 (BST)
  19. As those above. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:55, 6 September 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Death to spam! -As many kill voters. Also, I'd vote kill on this just because you suggested making a KEEP vote with a change requirement. Those go in the kill section, moron.--AlexanderRM 13:17, 29 August 2007 (BST)
