20071207 No Free Running Outside the Gatehouse V2

Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:42, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
building tweak

Suggestion scope
forts and those who use them

Suggestion description
Currently when you try to free run into the gatehouse from outside the fort, you stay where you are and the game gives you the message: "The gatehouse only has a single, low entrance - you cannot free run into it". This is annoying and wastes an AP, as you have to exit the building, move into the gatehouse square and enter. But when you are inside the gatehouse, you can free run from it to a building outside the fort. It doesn't really make sense.

So, I suggest that when trying to free run from the gatehouse into a building outside the fort, the character would end up outside of the building you were trying to free run into. Also, when trying to free run into the gatehouse from a building outside the fort, the character would end up outside the gatehouse.

Clarification: There are tall buildings next to both forts' gatehouses, so the explanation can't just be "the gatehouse is taller".

  9. keep - i don't think half the kill voters even understand the suggestion... otherwise, this suggestion makes sense and really doesn't habve any effect on movement inside the fort... --WanYao 07:29, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Well...Here's a better idea...you can say that clicking the gatehouse from inside an adjacent building should not waste an AP, seeing that'll you'll just get that message. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 11:14, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: The clicking itself does not waste the AP, it's entering the fort that wastes it as there's one extra step in the process. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 11:26, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - it's a fair suggestion, but I don't want my free running to be more limited than it currently is. Selfish vote. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 12:20, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: This removes a one AP cost from entering the fort (you don't have to separately exit the building and then move to the gatehouse square) so the total effect is 0. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 12:31, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re - And it stops me from being able to free run out of the fort. Are you on the same planet as me? --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 13:20, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: This is the kind of situation where I'd need a "history" button for my train of thought. Sorry. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:37, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - If you are trying to rectify the logic, consider this: you can't free run into the gatehouse because it's too tall. However, if the gatehouse is taller than the building you are free running to, then you could jump onto the top of the smaller building. Also, I agree with Karek that free running doesn't need a nerf in this instance (and in fact, not at all if you ask me). --Ryiis 14:48, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: There's tall buildings next to both Forts' gatehouses. The gatehouses would have to be really tall and the buildings inside the fort would have to be even taller, because you can't free run into them from the gatehouse. I just don't buy it. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 15:03, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re - I'm going to use semantics here (and I hate to do so), but prisons are meant to keep people in, and fortresses are meant to keep people out. It does make logical sense that it should be harder to get into a fort, but getting out shouldn't be an issue. Just as it would be easy to get into a jail, but hard to get out. --Ryiis 17:33, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: Both are meant to keep the people inside separated from the people outside, the reasons just differ. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:01, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill As Ryiis, I just assumed that the survivor could jump from the top of the fort wall down onto an adjacent roof, but jumping up to the wall is too great a challenge and requires going through the gate. --Jon Pyre 14:49, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill I'm going to say kill because really who wants to make things any easier for the trenchies ;) --Mr NoName001 14:53, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: This doesn't make it any harder, it takes one AP more at one point and one AP less at another. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 15:03, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill - As Karek stated, free running is already quite limited in forts, and the locations of highest importance in the forts are already difficult to enter due to existing game restrictions. --Z. slay3r Talk  16:00, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. No. - Above and below. Glenstone 16:17, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill It does kind of make sense. I imagine that from the outside the gatehouse would be a tall imposing concrete structure with barbed wire, spikes and lemmings lining the top of it, but if you get tinto the gatehouse itself there would be no real barrier between you and the inside of the fort.--SeventythreeTalk 18:04, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: This suggestion concerns the movement between the gatehouse and the buildings outside the fort, not inside. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:31, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Kill - Look at it this way. I can jump off a 2 story building, but I cannot jump onto one. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 18:39, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
See my reply to Ryiis. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:45, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

  10. Kill - As Ryiis. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 21:20, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Kill - Everybody who's ever watched Batman (the old one) knows that if you sling a rope from a high place to a low place, you can ride down it on a coathanger. But not vice-versa, because of a little thing "invented" when dinosaurs roamed by a guy called Gandhi - gravity. --Officer 123satsitx 22:37, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Kill - This would be a surprise to people who weren't experienced with the mechanics of fort free running. Usually, you don't end up outside unless you click on an empty block, or a ruined building. There are only 2 forts in Malton, most players (who don't base themselves there) don't need to know that trying to freerun into the gatehouse will toss you outside with the zombies... this would be a real trap for occasional visitors to the forts -- boxy talki 12:31 8 December 2007 (BST)
  13. Kill - So when you attempt a free run to the gatehouse, you simply slide down the walls to the entrance? Doesn't make sense. –Ariedartin Talk 06:12, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
  14. Kill - Free run off of one building, slam onto the side of another, manage to hold on, then climb down the side avoiding barbed wire and everything else that may be found on and around a fort. Sounds like a 3 of 4AP manuver to me not a 1AP manuver. Inky 02:46, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Any implementation of this is overpowered, free running is already extremely limited in Forts and the only important buildings are pretty much the hardest to get into. The current system is more punishing than a blanket free running ban and more interesting at that.--Karekmaps?! 12:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Strong Kill -As many others. --AlexanderRM 22:36, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
