20071215 Knockout

Suggestion type
New skill

Suggestion scope
Survivors

Suggestion description
A new military skill under Hand to Hand Combat which allows you to knock out a survivor. This is based on ShadowScope's earlier suggestion.

This would create a new attack called "knockout". It would work with the same percentages as punching and would allow you to knock out a survivor when they're at 1HP. The target then becomes a body (that can be dumped like other bodies). To zombies (and survivors) with Scent Death, the body smells strange, same as revivifying ones.

The target would rise as a survivor at the cost of 15AP (without Ankle Grab) or 6AP (with Ankle Grab) with exactly 1HP remaining.

Knockout doesn't work on zombies and zombies can't knock anyone out. Needless to say, you can't knock yourself out. Knocking out someone wouldn't give you any XP because 1) you didn't kill them, and 2) you don't get XP from using your fists on a fellow survivor anyway.

This is primarily meant for:

  • removing unwanted persons from safehouses without killing them
  • punishing RKers, GKers, radio spammers and people who are annoying in general, without killing them (as that would get you to Rogues Gallery)

Many concerns (such as ninjas, griefing and other abuse) were answered while at Talk:Suggestions, so before voting you might want to check here.

  3. Keep- I want more skills! --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 04:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - No need. Wow! You knocked out a GKer,what's he going to do now? Rise up and blow up another generator. It's useless, and be knocked down as a survivor should be the final blow. --User:Axe27/Sig 18:30, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: Rise up with 15/6AP less than normally and head for an entrypoint (he was most likely dumped). Not likely to blow up your generator that day at least. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:40, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Aye, but he's still alive isn't he? Hell, if you kill him, he won't bother you for at least a day and a half. --User:Axe27/Sig 19:11, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
No, but someone else would. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 19:14, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Can't collect the bounty if the person is still alive. The bounty hunters wouldn't use this. --User:Axe27/Sig 19:26, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Still unneeded.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 18:43, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Not useful enough. --Pgunn 19:16, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill - The consequences of dying are already weak enough, we don´t need something even less effective. --the wallaby 19:17, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill - As the Hierophant. --Pavluk A! E! 20:20, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill - First of all, few people would have just 1 HP and I feel this is too much of a strong-arm tactic.--GunFox13 20:43, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Kill - Not really useful, in my opinion. -J. A. 20:44, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill In real life punching someone discourages them. In game it just lets them continue their asshattery. --Jon Pyre 22:24, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Kill - I've got a gun, or an axe if I'm a survivor. Why would I possibly just want to knock someone out?--SeventythreeTalk 23:18, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Kill - As so many others above: it wouldn't really be useful, killing the person would probably be better, it would be so hard to do that it wouldn't be worth doing... etc, etc. Sorry --Ryiis 23:23, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Kill - 1AP seems alot low. --Bring The Pain!Anti Gorefest5Fight The Pain!TMW!B! 01:20, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - No Ninja skills, dieing doesn't need a nerf.--Karekmaps?! 17:50, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: Ninjas with 1HP and at least 5 AP less than if done by killing them and reviving. Whoop-de-doo. With ninjas, the end-result is more important than the amount of preparatory work. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:40, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: Ninjas who now don't have to get a revive, can make their first action 4 heals, and save survivors a large number of net AP because they don't have to get a revive. Not to mention that it keeps them from going zombie, and considering most of the zombies in the game are made from killed survivors post suburb/mall siege this has a real effect on the game. You would/could essentially stop zombies from getting kill bonus Xp(which means even harder leveling) and kill Feeding Drag as a skill completely. It's overpowered and nothing you say or do will change that.--Karekmaps?! 11:38, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Further discussion on the talkpage. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 14:00, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - First off, how often is someone at exactly 1HP? (Unless the attacker deliberately puts you to 1HP in order to knock you out, in which case they're a griefer.) Also, it's a survivor vs. survivor thing, so it promotes survivor in-fighting. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 18:42, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: That's the point, it has to be deliberate. And it doesn't really encourage in-fighting as it takes more effort than just killing them. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:44, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Spam - How do zed skills matter with a living survivor standing up? How does he magically get one HP? Why does it cost more AP to stand up from a knockout than death? This is a pretty bad suggestion all around. --Druuuuu OcTRR 18:48, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
Re: 1) How do survivor skills matter to zombies at all? 2) By resting the 15/6AP. 3) Because when rising after death, you're a zombie, and we all know zombies need no rest. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 19:04, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Want rid of someone? PK them and take the consequences without whinging. --The Hierophant 19:31, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Spam - WAH! PROTECT ME FROM DA EBIL PKERS DADDY!!! --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 23:17, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Spam - In the end, Malton should have this... why again? --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:43, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
