20080120 A Little Red Wagon

Ms.Panes 03:52, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
New fun, flavorful, and possibly useful item!

Suggestion scope
Everyone! Both zombies and survivors can play with this one!

Suggestion description
I decided I liked my wagon idea enough to put it up as a suggestion.

Little red wagons would be found in junkyards. There would be a limited number in each junkyard that would ever be found. There would be 1-5 wagons per junkyard. It would have 0.5% search rate until that junkyard runs out of them, and they wouldn't make it harder to find other items. When found it would say, "You found a little red wagon. You can pull it around or get in it if you want." Wagons would be a limited item, would not disappear from the game, can not be destroyed, and could not be put in your inventory, but you can pull one around. You would see how many wagons are on a square.

Attacking, syringing, DNA scanning, FAKing others, and the like would cause you to get out of the wagon, while speaking, gesturing, first aiding yourself, and the like wouldn't. I know realistically you could shoot someone without getting out, but to be fair to other attack forms it would cause you to exit the wagon, too. If you're *holding the handle*, and are NOT *in* the wagon, your actions do not cause you to let go of the wagon (except for the "let go" command, obviously).

  • To take hold of a wagon would cost 1 AP, but no AP to let go of. If you die you let go of the wagon.
  • It would cost one AP to get in, and one AP to get out. Only one person could be in it at a time. If you die you fall out of the wagon.
  • Both zombies and survivors can pull the wagon and get in/out of the wagon.
  • To pull an empty wagon would take 2AP, with or without lurching gait. To pull a wagon with someone in it would cost 3 AP, again regardless of whether you have lurching gait.
  • If it's empty, you can pull the wagon anywhere you can go normally. If someone is in it, you can't take it inside (or outside) unless the barricades are gone.
  • The wagon takes up no inventory spaces, but you can only pull one behind you at a time. You cannot take someone else's wagon unless you kill them or they let go.
  • If no one is in the wagon you can get in, regardless of whether someone is holding the handle.
  • You can pick who's wagon to get into (IE, unattended wagon, a zombie's wagon, Fred's wagon, etc.).
  • The person pulling the wagon can knock the person in it out of it. (1AP)

What's the point, you ask?

  • Allows infected survivors to get in and *hope* someone will pull them to safety.
  • Allows slow zeds to pull other slow zeds around at a net savings of 1 AP/square between the two. If one or both zeds has lurching gait, there would be no AP savings. and by then they would have played long enough to learn not to waste AP anyway.
  • Allows a zed to bring a friend or feral with them, increasing teamwork.
  • Allows moving people around, but only if they're willing to be moved.
  • Adds an interesting element of tug of war to gameplay.
  • It's FUN!

Questions:

  • Q. Is it in genre?
  • A. Yes. (see talk page)
  • Q. Is it zergable?
  • A. Everything in this game is zergable. I don't believe this causes any undue risk from zerging, and believe that the zerg countermeasures should be able to nullify any advantages gained by using this item to zerg. (see talk page)
  • Q. Why so few wagons?
  • A. I wanted to keep it fun, rather than have so many that it becomes silly. If you want more, just say so. ; )

Keep Votes

  1. Author Keep Because I like me. --Ms.Panes 03:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - Because it's the best suggestion ever (aside from other suggestions where i've said they're the best suggestion ever, of course). Although Grim does have you on it being a "Pied piper" ability. Then again, those are just guidelines, really. --Kikashie ELT 05:17, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - OMG BEST.SUGGESTION.EVAR!!! MAKES SUPER DOOPER SENSE... i likes it... --/~Rakuen~\ 05:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - Maybe as long as they where called just wagons. Personaly I like the Idea of this, I'm glad you didn't do the obvious thing with it and allow people to stack up shotguns in it! I can't see anything particuarly game breaking about it. By the way, If part of the idea was to allow the possibility of moving infected survivors to saftey maybe we should have Medical Gurney, (the wheeled stretcher things) found in hospitals with similar restrictions?--SeventythreeTalk 09:32, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
I suppose we could change them to just "wagons" if people think little red ones are too colorful for this game. Medical gurneys sound good. Adds some variety to what you pull around, and I think it fits the zombie theme. --Ms.Panes 22:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. very weak keep - i like the MWM! reference. not that i think this is a good one to be included in game, however --~~~~ [talk] 10:34, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep – So I can finally carry out my numerous threats to "get you, and your little red wagon, too!" O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 11:50, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kepp - I always wanted a wagon!--GunFox13 13:50, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

  9. Keep because MWM is cool--CorndogheroT-S-Z 16:51, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Spapz!! - So spammy and retardedly funny, its definitely a keep. :D -- Cheeseman W!RandomTalk 17:56, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep As its not really pied pipering, as you Have to get into the cart yourself. Its not as if its against your will, as say with German children. Its also a cool little addition, and allowed me to show off my carts in zombie media knowledge.--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 19:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  12. Keep - Funny. --Heretic144 19:32, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  13. 'Keep - I actually like this idea. Acoustic Pie 23:29, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - But this is Urban Dead, a place of death, misery, decaying bodies and flesh eating ghouls! --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 03:59, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill- First off lets not lie to ourselves here, it would be nearly impossible for a zombie to get one, it is also very easy for zombies to lose it as compared to survivors. Also this item is in no way flavorful, it changes game mechanics, however small it may seem. And this leads to one person being able to control where another person's character goes. This enables people to move free of charge, and this therefore allows free action which is not acceptable, not to mention the rarity of them would give unfair advantage to those that have them. -- BKM 04:49, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
It wasn't meant to only be flavor. I could've done that, but thought it would be rather pointless if the wagons had no use. As far as the "free AP" thing, I don't see this as any more "free of charge" than a survivor spending a few days to install a generator for everyone to benefit from, or a zombie dragging a survivor out in the streets so that the next zed to come by can get at an easy meal, sans barricades. Regarding quantity, more could be added to the game if there weren't enough to go around, but I figured that was a good starting number. --Ms.Panes 09:55, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - I don't like the idea of a zombie pulling another zombie in a wagon. Not the right flavor for UD. --PdeqTalk* 09:24, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - I don't want no little red wagons. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 09:48, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - For all of the above--DI Sweeny 12:21, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Kill - From a gameplay perspective, it does sound awesomely fun. But... it breaks the theme of the game, and keeping this about a zombie apocalypse is more important to me, even facing really awesome proposed game mechanics more suitable for some other type of game. --Pgunn 17:00, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill - This is a Zombie Outbreak, not Sesame Street. --The Gecko PKer 18:44, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - The find rate for FAKs already dilutes the usefulness of Infectious Bite, and the free movement aspect (albeit with no control) really seals the deal for me. - Bisfan 19:39, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill - I don't think that it fits in too well. --Z. slay3r Talk  23:54, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Pied piper ability. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 04:53, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - pointless and more than a little bit silly... and just doesn't fit the genre -- boxy talki 05:10 20 January 2008 (BST)
  3. Spam - Let's break the game mooore Daaavey.--Karekmaps?! 09:19, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Could you explain in what way this would be breaking the game? And who the heck is Daaavey? --Ms.Panes 09:55, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
It's overpowered because it's free movement, and no it's not the same as feeding drag due to barricades. Btw, I would also vote against Powered Searches if it were to come up as a suggestion as it was a stupid idea that has done nothing but make searches insanely easy. The Davey thing is a reference to the Davey and Goliath claymation cartoon.--Karekmaps?! 12:03, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - I've never liked little red wagons much. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 10:41, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Spamination Abomination - this is something from the USA, right? It's pied piper, the flavour sucks BIG chunks and ... I'm almost lost for words about how this is just shit. Not THE shit, just shit. Crapola. Cacapoopoo. I hate it with a passion normally reserved for automatic rifles. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 11:57, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Spam - While it might be somewhat in-genre, it's silly and gets ridiculous if you bump into these things often. And Rare Does Not Equal Balanced. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 14:27, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Read the Q and A above. It's not rare to preserve balance, but to preserve flavor/interest. I'm not opposed to there being more wagons (or medical gurneys for variety as seventythree said) than the number I gave. --Ms.Panes 21:05, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
