Suggestion description

Introduction It seems that light can not get into certain buildings (armories, banks, cinemas, and clubs), which (when unpowered) makes them dark. Logically, light should also not be able to get out of such buildings, at least not enough of it to be seen at a great distance.

Effects This suggestion would have the following effects:

  • The above mentioned building types would never show as powered on the minimap, unless you were inside the building.
  • The scene description when directly outside (or inside) one of these buildings would still indicate if the building was lit, and would be modified to make this status more obvious and descriptive. An example from outside would be to change the line Lights are on inside. to Lights are on inside the building, but only show though a few openings.

Impact Besides adding realism and variety, this would make "dark" buildings less of a zombie magnet when lit, meaning that (even when powered, as they must be to be repaired) they might make for a good safe house. Aside from the Armories (which are very easy to tell if human or zombie occupied without lights), none of these buildings have tactical resources, so the "hidden" search boost would not affect game balance.

  1. Spam - Completely unrealistic given the current limitations of Malton.     Those were all broken by stray bullets and zombies trying to claw their way in long ago, which is why they do not appear in the buildings description when it is powered; rather it only mentions lights being on in the building. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 19:13, 5 July 2008 (BST)
