20081022 Organ Donor

Suggestion type
This is an addition of two new items and either an extension to the Surgery skill or the addition of a new skill in the same tree.

Suggestion scope
This skill will apply to Survivors, mostly those who act as medics.

Suggestion description

Please read fully before voting!

New Items: Donor Card, Kidney.

Skill Amends: Surgery.

It's all about as useful as being able to set zombies on fire, but I like it.

Items

Donor Card

  • Effects: Allows Surgeons to perform "Post Mortem" surgery sub-skill (as outlined blow) on carriers corpse.
  • Encumbrance: 1%.
  • Where can the item be found and what are it's search odds: Hospitals, 5% chance of finding.

Kidney

  • Effects: Recovers 15 Health to Survivor, can only be used on survivor with 15 Health or less. If survivor is on more than 15 Health they are too healthy to risk organ replacement. 5% Chance of killing Survivor during surgery instead of healing. Can not be used on the Surgeon carrying the Kidney - can't perform surgery on self.
  • Encumbrance: 1%.
  • Where can the item be found and what are it's search odds: Corpses, 20% chance of finding, viable corpses only - see below.
  • AP to use: 5 AP.

Post Mortem Skill Outline

  • Prerequisities: N/A
  • Location in Skill tree: Either this skill would be an addition to Surgery, or would come in as a new skill - "Coroner?" under or next to Surgeon in the skill tree.
  • Crossover skill: Survivor use only.
  • Cost in XP: standard 100xp or free if added to Surgery.
  • Cost in AP / How it's activated (full description):

A surgeon could do with a little something extra to do, and this would make dedicated medics lives a bit more interesting too, while not adding a massive advantage to anyone.

First: When there is a body around, someone with the Surgery skill would have a button appear that read "Check for Donor Card". This would take 1AP and would give the following possible results:

  • If body does not carry card, read: "This body has no Donor Card. You should respect their wishes." - no further options.

Have card options:

  • If body started life as a zombie, read: "This body is too deteriorated to have any possible organs of use." - no further options.
  • If body has skill "Flesh Rot", read: "You can see without touching that there's nothing you need in there!" - no further options.
  • If body is revivifying, read: "This person looks too gosh-darn healthy to cut up!" - no further options.
  • Otherwise, if body is dead survivor/zombie who started as a survivor, read: "You dig a faded Donor Card out of a pocket, and glancing over the body decide that it might be worth a closer look." - new options below.

Second: If you get the option to continue, a new option appears: "Perform Post Mortem". This would take 5AP and would give the following possible results:

  • 40% chance of reading: "In this poor light and without proper tools, you've done more harm than good and anything that might have been useful is now in too many pieces." - no further options.
  • 40% chance of reading: "Sadly this body has been lying in the heat too long and has deteriorated beyond any useful state." - no further options.
  • 20% chance of reading: "There be treasure in them there guts! That kidney looks to be in working condition, you can probably make use of that later!" - gain item "Kidney".

Post Mortem automatically makes 2 items of clothing bloodier.

Third: Use kidney as described in item description on some poor unfortunate survivor.

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it! Vote away!

Keep Votes

  1. Author Keep --McWaffle 10:20, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  2. I actually think this is a pretty decent idea. Gives medics more to do. --Alcatraz311 16:56, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  3. Keep - I think its a good idea, although it's an awful lot of hassle. It sure does make it more interesting for medics with nothing better to do that sit around a hospital all day! --Angusburger 17:47, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep - I still can't figure if you were being serious or trying to be humorous, seeing as is this is way too much effort for humor (though I did have to stifle a chuckle). Good shot, though it might need some tweaking. Perhaps actually factor lighting into it. --Private Mark 19:25, 22 October 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Malton's medics wouldn't care about a donor card, because Malton's lawyers are currently deceased. -- Galaxy125 01:25, 23 October 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill - I'm an RP whore. Realism is important to me. --• LtZurSee slapped your nose with a newspaper for a heal from CORAM (0 seconds ago)AU 10:34, 24 October 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam I can see you put a lot of thought into this, perhaps too much ;) Its far too complex for what is in effect an emergency operation to heal the badly wounded without a FAK. By requiring a kidney (wtf!) and donor card you are making it easier to just collect a FAK in the 1st place and save all the effort. If you really want to include advanced medical procedures I would suggest taking this down and going to the suggestion dev page instead. --Honestmistake 13:59, 22 October 2008 (BST)
    - honestly I just thought it was funny, I never really considered how much easier FAKs were. I still want an organ donor card even if it's useless! --McWaffle 14:19, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  2. Spam - This is just silly. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 14:38, 22 October 2008 (BST)
    - what, you think kidneys should have some kind of expiry date? --McWaffle 15:31, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  3. Humourous - I lol'ed. -- Cheese 14:43, 22 October 2008 (BST)
    - glad someone liked it anyway ;) --McWaffle 15:31, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  4. Spam/Humorous - I know it might seem somewhat perverse, but there's actually a separate section for humorous suggestions (you said yourself you've only done this because you thought it was funny), and (this is the perverse bit) it's actually considered vandalism of the wiki to post joke suggestions here. I think the reasoning goes like this: you (i.e. anyone) aren't that funny, therefore it's a waste of everyone's time. You know those people who send you joke forward emails that have lists of really funny things that aren't actually funny at all. You know how you want those people to just stop (breathing, maybe)? --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 16:30, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  5. Humorous - It was kind of funny, but this is the voting page.--William Told 17:25, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  6. Spam - So...the whole point of this is just to allow you to eat kidneys? And it doesn't make much sense how people will come back from the dead after being revived if they're missing their kidneys...--SirArgo Talk 17:29, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  7. Spam - You fucking serious? --Sonny Corleone DORIS MSD pr0n 18:18, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  8. Spam - If this was a joke, it wasn't that funny. Well, maybe in a really dry, not funny way. But if it was for real, theres no beginning to what sucks about it. - tylerisfat 20:40, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  9. Spam-Balam! - Makes me want to hurt something, [insert reason why this sucks here]--/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 23:28, 22 October 2008 (BST)
  10. Spam - the fact that no one can tell whether you are trying to be funny or are actually serious is not a good sign - Sanpedro 00:39, 23 October 2008 (BST)
  11. Spam - As HonestMistake, Midianian, and Cheese. 04:52, 23 October 2008 (BST)
  12. Spam The game already HAS Surgery and Surgery isn't even that great a skill. As I read this suggestion, it is, basically Surgery. Just Hella-complicated. With Surgery, I can heal another player 15 HP in a powered hospital at anytime. With THIS suggestion, I can do the EXACT SAME THING....but ONLY if the target is dying and ONLY if you have a kidney harvested from another body and ONLY if they have a donor card AND it costs 5 times the AP of Surgery. Lets not even go into the fact that ANY organ has a very short lifespan outside the body and Malton isn't exactly a sterile environment for carrying kindeys (not to mention, should this actually happen, the possiblities of other organ related suggestions). How does this improve the game? THAT is the key factor for almost every suggestion. Why the hell would anyone want to do this?--Pesatyel 05:36, 23 October 2008 (BST)
  13. Spam - Yeah, I don't really get the point of this. However, I do think that the Organ Donor card might go well with my Badge Slot clothing suggestion. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 11:27, 23 October 2008 (BST)
  14. Spam - The game's current surgery already sucks. This just complicates it even more, at no benefit.--Kolechovski 23:08, 23 October 2008 (BST)
  15. Spam - DO NOT WANT --HAHAHA DISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS 02:51, 24 October 2008 (BST)
