20100407 Allow Zombies to Eat in the Dark

SIM Core Map.png Swiers 15:51, 7 April 2010 (BST)

Suggestion type
improvement to Dark building mechanics

Suggestion scope
Zombies who want to regain HPs by feeding on corpses.

Suggestion description
Zombies who have Digestion can regain HPs by feeding on freshly dead bodies. However, in dark buildings, nobody can see whether corpses are present, and so zombies can't (or at least don't know to) feed on them. I suggest that zombies who have Scent Fear should be able to "see" dead bodies in the dark; if they can smell fear, tracking down a corpse in the dark by scent should be pretty easy. This could be as simple as providing the normal reports of bodies, or a slightly altered one indicating they are detected by scent, not vision. If they also have Digestion, the action option will also be provided for them to feed. When they do feed, this action is normally reported such that a link to the zombie's profile is provided; in the dark, it would instead be reported simply as "You hear disturbing sounds of rending flesh" or some such.
A potential side benefit of this would be that zombies would know whether corpses of contacts were present in the Dark. I feel this is also realistic, and beneficial because it lets them know if zombie friends who were killed have stood up and moved on, or are still present as corpses.

  7. Keep/change - It should be scent death instead of scent fear. Dead bodies smell dead, not afraid. But while we're here can we have a "keep" vote for swiers?--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 01:43, 8 April 2010 (BST)
  8. Keep I was initially a little leary about it, but since it only seems to revolve around zombies eating corpses and actually provides a reason for zombies to use Digestion, I'm all for it. Chomp chomp pa-chewy-chomp! --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 06:56, 8 April 2010 (BST)
